    I just bought one of these on Thursday and the stand. As a DIYer it's brilliant for making quick and accurate cuts. I checked the angles before cutting anything and it was already spot on out the box. Had the stand built and the saw mounted within 15 minutes. I was a bit dubious before buying but I needn't have worried. If you're thinking about buying one you won't be disappointed

      Totally agree. Out the box mine was also spot on. I've still not opened my stand but you make it sound like it will be quick and easy 👍🏻

      @@thedoitalldad the stand is really easy. Just bolt on a few plastic headed knobs and the slides. Trickiest part was adding the nuts and bolts to the support bars on the saw base. Fiddly more than tricky but easy enough

      Agree with the fiddly bit. I bought a Von Hausen stand from Amazon as Screwfix had run out of their own. It was only a couple of quid more and worth every penny.

      @jamesfox3784 Месяц назад

      @pamhill8710 sounds good. There's probably easier and better solutions to the fiddly nuts and bolts arrangement on the cheaper stands but tbh, you only need to do it once so not really an issue

    The little black piece of metal protruding out under the handle on the motor body, how do you release that mine won’t budge. Think it stops the blade spinning because if you press the trigger no blade spin but plenty of smoke from the motor

      Gosh I struggled with this first time as well. Had to watch this a couple of times, eventually I got enough confident to give it a couple of swift taps with a hammer and that worked. Its fine now.

    How do I release the spindle lock lever?

    • @jamesfox3784
      @jamesfox3784 8 дней назад

      @user-dr6jk5qk2z push the saw down a little to release the pressure then pull the black know to the right. It's stiff so takes a reasonable amount of pull to release

  • @robtown

    How do you get the clamp to work? As I tighten it on the piece I’am cutting, the black steel rod just slides up out of hole it’s sat in?

    • @jamesfox3784
      @jamesfox3784 2 месяца назад +1

      It's kind of a compression fit. Make sure the black rod is fully inserted into the hole and use the yellow lock screw onto the piece of wood to apply pressure to the wood. It lifts slightly before sideways pressure pushes the knurled bit of the black rod into the side of the hole to make it clamp

    Great review mate, i think i'll buy one of these, can you tell me the thickness of the blade? Also, i've never used one of these before and was wondering if there is a way you can make a partial cut, like say you have a piece of wood that is 3cm thick, only make a 1cm deep cut into the wood?
    Thanks!

    • @jjolsson1863
      @jjolsson1863 8 дней назад

      Maybe a circular saw would be better for that

    • @jamesfox3784
      @jamesfox3784 8 дней назад

      @@MuramasaRob you can indeed. There's a "stop" screw on it that allows you to set the cut depth

    I've just bought this and it doesn't cut straight. It's rubbish. It's set at 0 degrees and from the front to the back of the piece of 1x2 wood I used for a first cut its pissed as shit. Fresh out the box. I should have gone for the old faithul.....DeWalt

    • @thedoitalldad
      @thedoitalldad  3 месяца назад +1

      I've had no issues with mine, but I do think it's one of those brands where you can be unlucky and get a bit of a rubbish one. If I had the money I'd always go with a well known brand like DeWalt

    • @Jim-ze9ee
      @Jim-ze9ee 3 месяца назад

      @@thedoitalldadI did have the money for a DeWalt. I was in Screwfix pacing up and down debating whether I should go cheap or go for a brand I've used for 15 years.
      Ah well, lesson learned.
      Good video btw.

      Bruh Even with the more expensive one like metabo and many others you have to adjust it first before use by loosing the screws and set the angle, then start using it.
      Look even on some YT tutorials.

      There's always one😂

    • @leecooper8589
      @leecooper8589 5 дней назад

      @@stevenpayne1138 Indeed there is. Picked mine up today for £90 and so far just done a few test cuts at the sort of angles I expect to need to do, checked them and all's well. Those cuts mean it can cope with the 3 projects I effectively bought it for. After that, in my mind, it's already paid for itself and anything else is a bonus.
      I think one of the reviews on the Screwfix website about sums it up; He said something along the lines of don't buy a Dacia Duster and then complain that it can't keep up with a Lamborghini. That particular reviewer said he'd bought it to do one job (decking I think) and it would have cost more to hire a mitre saw for the 3 weeks he's used it.
      Yep, I could have spent about 2.5 x the money on the most basic DeWalt that won't do the width cuts I need in one pass and then have a more expensive paperweight in my shed for the next few months until I need it again. If it was for professional use and I used it regularly (and I could put it down as a legitimate business expense) I'd be spending many hundreds more on the Lamborghini of Sliding Mitre Saws but I'll settle for the (Dusty) Duster for now.
