@Ted Hubert Pagnanawon Crusio I mean more from a martial arts perspective. Heh, in real life this duel would've ended in about 2 seconds when the Monk stabbed that Samurai in the chest. Or the Samurai would've countered and pinned the spear before going and slicing the Monk. Nothing elegant about real duels too the death, because both sides are far more worried about not getting hit rather than doing something flashy. Not too mention they're scared shitless the whole time so trying to retain enough focus to do something flashy is unlikely.
It is equal parts ludicrous Hollywood and believable fight. It is not realistic but doesn't need to be. No two people that knew what they were doing would fight like that and you certainly wouldn't cut through armor with a sword. But at the same time the two are really sharp and quick with their movements. They also show everything and don't mask the fight in camera movements or poor lighting. A highlight for me is the monk preforms what looks like a feint at 1:47 and the Samurai falls for it and then disengages while putting the sword vaguely on the correct side to protect him.
I love how the entire fight you can clearly tell that the Red one is dictating the fight, but still some how seem like the white always had a chance to win.
