  • First start in 5 months on the WEN 56380i generator. Gas had Sta-Bil fuel stabilizer in it. Oil change at 30 hours. Inspection of magnetic oil dipstick.
Change your oil frequently on new small engines without oil filters. It definitely lowers the metal particles floating around inside your engine, and likely will greatly increase engine life.
If you decide to purchase this generator from Amazon, I might see a few pennies if you use this link. Man do I feel like a freak even typing that out. I shouldn't even bother, as I've earned $1.34 in total from Amazon using these links. But it makes for a fun social experiment nonetheless.

Best practice on a new small engine is change oil after 15-30 minutes. Run again for an hour or 2, change oil again. Run for 4 or 5 hours, change again. Change again after 25 hours. Also, that magnetic dipstick is worth the $10. Spend the $10 for an aftermarket hour meter and install it according to the manufacture's instructions. All of the above, less than $50 with a top quality synthetic oil, are far cheaper than a new generator. Do all that and it'll run for years.

      Waste of oil!!

@@JJ-sv9kh say what you will, that's fine. Oil is cheap. Motors, generators, etc. aren't. I'll spend an extra $10 on oil for a cheap insurance policy. I will use the used oil in my backyard as a fire starter.
You do you, I'll do me.

Should the first oil change be at 1 hour or 10 hours? I also have the magnetic dipstick.

Sooner is always better than later for engines without filters. This much I know for certain. You literally can't change the oil too soon or too often during break-in.

Did you hook the parallel kit up to another generator? I am in the process of setting up similar setup to see if my 3500w + 1700w will work well in parallel. Some say the 3500w will be gated to the lower 1700w to "match". Others have shown they act in ratio to each other, so curious if you tested that.
    Cheers

Why did you add an Hour meter? Doesn't it have a built-in hour meter?

There were reports from other users saying the hour meters weren't working properly, and sometimes not starting to count right away, and it isn't that expensive or difficult to add one. The one on mine seems to be working properly, but the display is very dim in daylight and I really appreciate having the LCD battery backup.

After the initial break-in period your user manual recommends synthetic 5w-30 for all temperature ranges. If it's brand new, follow the break in procedure in my other video on the subject to maximize engine life.
