His Super Bowl was beating the Bears in '85. I watched that game as a huge Bears fan of many years knowing he'd shred the 4-6 defense. It was tough to watch. But Dan was just awesome.

@@stephenamitrano2284One of my favorite what if scenarios in NFL history, what if the 85 Bears had met the Dolphins, the only team and only quarterback to get the better of them all season, in Super Bowl 20? That MNF game was infamous for being the true starting point of Ditka and Buddy Ryan’s animosity towards each other. It was 24-10 in the first half, and Ditka wanted to put the nickel in to try and help with the pass coverage, but because Buddy had full control over the defense, he refused to veer from the 46 that game and insisted on continuing to blitz Marino, who was just tearing them apart. It would’ve been interesting to see if the Bears defensive gameplan would have changed if their opponent in Super Bowl 20 was the Dolphins, and if it did change, how would Marino have adapted to it.

Dan and his offense would score 30 or more points only to lose the game in the last waning seconds. I truly believe if Coach Shula could have kept Bill Arnsparger instead of Tom Olivadotti we would have gone to the Super Bowl again and won. Our defense was the #1 reason for losing our games. Of the 10 QBs on NFL's 100th Anniversary Team, Marino is the only one without a ring. The other 9 QBs combined for 26 rings (Brady 7, Montana 4, Graham 3, Unitas 3, Elway 2, Manning 2, Staubach 2, Baugh 2, Favre 1), an average of 2.89/per. With only 1 MVP, he beat out several championship HOF QBs to get on the team, most notably Terry Bradshaw (1 MVP, 2 SB MVPs, 4 rings), Bart Starr (1 MVP, 2 SB MVPs, 5 rings) and Young (2 MVPs, 1 SB MVP, 3 rings).

Football is a team sport, it's not tennis. You can't blame Marino for not winning a ring, there are ten other players that share that blame. In my opinion, John Stockton was the NBA's best pure point guard ever, he and Karl Malone never got close to winning a ring until they got a high caliber supporting cast around them. That's why you never put the blame on one player in a team sport.

The Dolphins were so good for so long that they never got top picks the whole time he was playing. Even Marino was a late 1st round pick. The picks they did make were not great either. Shula was too loyal to his coaches also. That defensive coordinator should’ve been gone early in Dans time. The Dolphins scored way to many points to lose so many times. If he played today, there would be no records he wouldn’t own. Plus he wouldn’t need that top back or big running game like they did then. But scoring wasn’t the problem, never was. How many times Marino had a late drive just to leave 1 min on the clock and lose. It was disgusting.

Wayne Huzengia was a terrible owner and as a Dolphins I would take 100 Jerry Jones over Wayne Huzengia. The way Wayne Huzengia and JJ disrespected Shula his last year was flat out awful and disrespectful. You never cross Don Shula but Huzengia and Johnson did and a small portion of Dolphins did. I’m a believer in karma and Huzengia and JJ and those Dolphins fans that wanted JJ as HC had everything coming there way that’s why when 62-7 happen I was like good they all deserve it. JJ actually quit on the team twice after the beat down against the Broncos he quit and Stupid Wayne Huzengia brings him back because JJ wanted Wannstead to be his Successor and Huzengia said sure. The team basically quit against the Jaguars which actually I was happy they did cause JJ deserved it and quit again like the quitter/loser he is. Why Marino never went back to the super bowl after the 1984 season
1- Buffalo Bills🦬 (Miami lost to Jim Kelly’s teams in the 1990,1992 & 1995 playoffs) Jim Kelly had a better defense (Bruce Smith/Cornelius Bennett/Daryl Talley) a better offense (Will Wolford/Thurman Thomas/Andre Reed)
2- Marino never had a pro bowl running back (Sammy Smith; Abdul-Jabbar; Pritchett)
3- the only time Marino’s Dolphins had a good defense was the year of 1998 - The Dolphins finished with the number one defense thanks to Jimmy Johnson (when they had Zach Thomas at linebacker Jason Thomas at DE Brock Marion at free safety Terrell Buckley at cornerback Patrick Surtain at cornerback Sam Madison at cornerback Tim Bowen’s at nose tackle)

@@ingurlund9657 Exactly. I'm not saying Marino was bad, because he was incredible and his numbers are lost to this explosion of offense. Yet, if you played Denver in the 1980s to 1995, you were playing the Denver Elways, and their coach, Dan "Three Yards and a Cloud of Dust" Reeves. And he still got them three AFC Championships. If you were playing Miami you were playing a good team and a HOF QB, coached by a true legend. Once Elway got a little help, his last three years speak for themselves: 39-9, 6-1 in playoffs, 2x Super Bowls. Marino was a great QB. John Elway was the greatest QB to ever play the game. Brady may be the most accomplished, but John played in 5 Super Bowls, won two, and retired as #2 in virtually every statistical category and was the winningest QB in history despite being the most sacked. And finally showed why he was the greatest prospect in NFL history, and the embodiment of the perfect lab creation QB. He has the numbers AND the post season success, AND the rushing numbers, something only Peyton Manning and Tom Brady had two of after him, and no one else in history had. No one else in history combines those three PLUS the durability to do it all in an era before ruled allowed QBs to avoid any contact. And oh, he was either #1 or 1A all time in fourth quarter comebacks. If I had to have one
