Forgot to mention to measure the adjustment rod on the front of the brake booster (the rod that meets the master cylinder) and be sure to tighten the lock nut!
Alright, I've had my 99 for awhile and it makes a sound like when abs kicks on in the snow, but only when slowing down to 5-3 mph and stops the sound at 3-0 or full stop, any suggestions?
Thanks for creating this video. Super easy DIY. It took me an hour at most to get this done and I was going slow. Best part is I was quoted $950 for parts and labor from a shop. I just bought a budget aftermarket replacement and saved myself $900.
A tip on the rear shaft of the booster. Measure the old shaft(from base of booster to where that pin holding piece bolts up) and match that to the new booster.
The power booster just went out in my 1997 4Runner, virtually overnight. The odometer has about 290,000 miles on it. Thanks for taking the time to show how to replace the power booster. FYI, I throughly checked out my brake system, & found that all the flexible brake lines are cracked, & the rear act seals are leaking, gear oil onto the rear brake shoes. Can you show how to replace the rear axel seals without a 20 ton press, & how to replace all the flexible brake lines with longer, steal braided lines. Keep up the good work!
I brought in my 2018 Sequoia to a Toyota dealership. I was experiencing electrical issues. The windows, the radio and the shifter were not working. They normally charge $140 for diagnostic, but this time they charged me $420 for diagnostic because they said it was 3 different areas to diagnose. Finally they discovered it was a couple of blown fuses & missing fuse. Did I get scammed?
I wouldn't say scammed. When I get a vehicle in for separate concerns in different areas say a suspension noise, an electrical issue, and a check engine light usually we charge 1hr per diagnosis since usually its 3 completely different issues with the vehicle. But if it ended up being all related to a couple blown fuses I think they should have just charged you for 1 concern at 1hr diag. At least that's what I would have charged as the tech.
I just replaced my brake booster on a 97 4Runner , and after hooking everything back up with the new booster , the brake pedal is really hard . It takes my whole force just to stop . Do I have to adjust something , or did I miss something , or is the part bad ? Thank you 😄
It’s possible the booster you got is bad, make sure the vacuum hose is connected. If it feels the same whether the car is running or off I’d say bad brake booster. Also make sure the vacuum hose going to the booster is getting good vacuum when the engine is on.
Hey bro, so i did that test ( hold brake , then turn on, the pedal did go down a bit ) however i was having hard brakes ( no brakes ro be exact ) would that mean the booster is good and i need to look for a vacuum leak somewhere ?
If you had a vacuum leak you would hear a hissing sound and possibly have a erratic idle. By hard brakes do you mean the brake pedal feels the same with or without the car running? If so then I would aim at bad booster. But if you say no brakes that could be something else.
@@LetsDriftMedia hey man thanks for the reply ! 🙏 So it ended up being the brake booster , my brake pedal would go hard when trying to come to a stop and I would have to use my entire leg muscle and e brake to fully stop , it would slow but it wouldn't hold a full stop without the e brake . It did make a slight sound but it was barely audible didnt notice it till I was removing the old booster, easy job ! Thanks !
Bro my booster is leaking from where the master cylinder is bolted i notice it's a small hole the leaks on the power booster between the masters cyl bolts is leaking is the master cylinder is bad or the booster t ?thanks
hey man, i’m 17 and going to start out as a lube tech at toyota and working shifts while i’m in highschool still. Since minimum wage here is 7.25 how much pay u think i’ll start out making? Not too worried about pay since i’m trying to build up my way to a tech
Dam I just got my New master cylinder and Brake booster replaced for my 97 4Runner , at Pep Boys and I feel like I got screwed over. Pep Boys charge me $481.60 for a new Brake booster, they said it cost so much because they needed to get a specific type because others are not going to fit. And charged me 307.99 for a new Master Cylinder. I don’t know why? Google or other places don’t seem to go for that much. So in total I ended paying 1439.57 because of 568.80 of service fee. Please help do 97 4Runners usually cost that much for specifics parts like that or do you think they screwed me over on those prices for the car parts
You can get that booster all day online shipped for $120 if the 568$ service fee was for labor to install that sounds about right for pep boys, but if it was a fee to source the part then you got ripped off.
Noting my 2014 Toyota 4Runner has spongy brake responsiveness as well. Have not taken it to the shop yet, but sounds like my brake booster needs replaced as well?
its possible, also possible you just have air trapper in the system. If you take it to the dealer they will most likely rec doing a brake flush/bleeding first, if it is still spongy after that they will rec replacing the booster. Your vehicle has the abs actuator built into the booster so it will be expensive.
@@LetsDriftMedia Yikes, just bought it last week, so hoping it's not an expensive fix. I purchased a high mileage vehicle warranty, 2 years or 24k miles and it seems like it mentions several brake components covered. Can't recall if there is a deductible, but even at $500 on a deductible, sounds like it would be worth looking into getting it checked?
Great video! Willing to do a tutorial on is300 evap codes? Feel like it’s a very common problem with not so great tutorials on how to repair. (: love the content

Perfect. Mine is failing or failed. I've been needing to use handbrake assist. Will be doing it this weekend. Thanks man !

That would be so complex for me. You got mad skills brother. Love it.
Can this cause rough idle as well?

Thank you for supporting the channel fam!
Which booster did you use? Cardone?
Isn’t the brake booster itself like 1k?!
Thanks to this video i was able to change mine out and save myself a good bit of money!
Did you have to bleed the brakes after install?
No, I never opened any brake lines.
Would the same pedal test apply to a hydraulic brake booster unit?

Hello i am having falling of break with my Toyota 4runner when i park it for some days i need your help
It’s really fun when it goes out on the highway at speed, don’t ask me how I know this😂😂😂
Try almost driving head first into your shelby mustang in your driveway

Great video. 4runner just hit 400k miles n needs a new booster
Mine pooped out. 429988 miles
Mine at 360,000, apparently.
So I just changed my 2000 4Runner brake booster and the brakes are wayyyy to hard. What should I adjust?
Same here ! I’m worried about mine lol , did you ever figure it out ?

Nice, From what I have seen lube techs generally make minimum wage maybe a dollar or 2 more.

@@toolman67 you should be fine, the replacement of it it easy, its just work to bleed that system and requires a scan tool.
Thanks for the video! Do you know where I can purchase one?
I used an auto zone booster in this video
Awesome video bud!
Do You need to bleed the brakes?
No, I did not remove any brake lines during this process. If you crack open any of the brake lines on the master cylinder then yes you will need to.

Literally have the same issue with my is300 lol
Interesting I think we see like 1 is300 per year at my dealer lol not too many lexus come in
Great Video .
Thanks
Mine was just the check valve not the booster..
Has anyone ordered the brake booster from Amazon? And if so how did it work out for you guys?
I’m sure it would be fine. Don’t think it would be much different than autozone stuff
Great video brother that's I'm talking about repairing cars is videos I hope you make more videos Peace yo yo yoyo Niko
about to the booster on my truck 1500gmc 1994
Nice man get it!
Good shit bro
Thanks for watching appreciate you
Thanks sir
Funny, I went to 3 shops. All wanted between $1137 and $2200 to do that job without a new master cylinder. Rediculious. I'll do it myself
WTH what area are you in? I must be undercharging! JK. I think book time is 2-3 hour job those shops you went to are trying to rob people.
That's the same one I have
Great job bruh thanks for the DIY vid peace✌
