ok I'm a staff member working with the insurance company (back end).....know why they can't register a British plate no? Because their system does not decorate/not able to capture your plate registration inside it.....meaning they are using an old system.....this is the reason why most system keep enhanced every year
I'm so sorry for your troubles. We also crossed Malay-Thai borders with a VAN registered in Europe and it was much easier. First of all we did the Thai visa directly at the embassy in KL. We didn't have to book flights as we showed our CdP specifying in the form that we are going to cross with our own vehicle. This worked well. Then we booked only 7 days free cancelation for the hotels. And we got the 2 months visa. Everything cost 160MYR pp (the Visa fee). BTW, you can extend this visa by one month in Thailand. Then we picked the Wang Prachang border crossing, ( the Western most). At this border it was very fast and they didn't ask for the DLT approval. We crossed both borders in about 1.5h with no costs. Insurance 800BHT for 6months on the Thai side.
Thank you for sharing this - we have found out that if your vehicle is not registered with the Thai Ministry of Transport as a foreign (UK / Europe) vehicle your insurance is invalid - Marianne
@@TREADtheglobeHi, so is Trudy insurance valid now, after the 10 days post approval from Thai Ministry of Transport? Asking since the process was you guys got the insurance first then ministry approval, instead of the normal ministry approval then only getting the insurance. Good info to know, who knows one day I'm going to drive into Thailand as well! :)
Guys, I did post in your previous video you need a special permit, foreign vehicle permit before they allow entry into Thailand for non Msian car plate 😅
Most prpb they already past before posting the video, so when you answered them they would already have been past here already. It's not live vlogging boss
Another important thing, please check the approval from customs, usually they give just 30 days. If your car stays inside Thailand for more than 30 days, you will get fined 1,000 Bahts a day. I got fined for a few thousand Bahts during the exit.
Sarawak and Sabah has their own regulations with regards to foreign vehicles. So it is better to double-Check with Road Transport Department of both states.
@@faizalisa7782we all have a "translate to English" button under comments in a different language, as far as I know. Don't you have such a [quick] translation button?
Glad Trudy's stamp in is successful. Phew! I could feel the frustration and anxiety even from here. Also, thank god, Marianne is alright. Do take care. Have fun exploring Thailand.
Really admired both you for your patience and calmness in all sorts of situations in around the world!...🥰. Enjoy your trip onwards and have a pleasant trip and Bye from M'sia...🇲🇾🇲🇾🇲🇾. Take care...👋👋👋
I stalled my bike on the hill between Malaysia and Thailand and it wouldn't start again. I pushed it up the hill only to find out the same thing, I didn't have the right paperwork to cross into Thailand. I spent 2 days in border hotel while I worked on bike in No-Man's land. Was an easy fix but took a while to find
Glad you are feeling better. Scary moment fainting. Had a health scare myself this week. Suspected stroke 😢 all good, though ❤ looking forward to Thailand with you.
I am glad that you were able to get Trudy registered in Thailand. I was surprised that you did not get all this sorted out at the Thai consulate in Penang, it would have saved you a lot of time, money and headache? Before leaving Thailand for China got to Chinese embassy in Bangkok and get all the details worked out, including how you are going to leave China to which country. Go to that country's embassy in Bangkok and get everything sorted out. You have to do this because credible information is hard to come by, get up to date information. Please do come back to Malaysia. I would like to wish you safe travel journeys and take care.🙏❤👍
Thank you for your unfiltered thoughts and reviews of Malaysia. We're sad to see you go. Do try and fit it into your plans to be back soon! Safe travels ahead.
Phew! MY blood pressure was bouncing around just watching that experience!!! So glad Marianne was healthier by the time you got to all that! And SO EXCITED to hear you are really going to do China - what an amazing spring adventure that'll be! BTW - your park up in north Japan is under 2 meters of snow at the moment...
I'm sorry you were unwell in Penang. Would have been lovely to meet up - and The Olive Tree Hotel is just around the corner from where I live! Glad you got through the border OK in the end and yes I do look forward to your next visit to Penang. Stay safe, stay well on the rest of your journey.
I did comment on previous vids on heatstroke, especially on hot Weather. Also since your heading to thailand, a trip to krabi is a MUST! Beautiful place over there
I hope you both enjoyed exploring in Malaysia!!I have been in Thailand before and i gotta admit is a wonderful experience and very different than Malaysia.Good luck in your newest journey and i wish thing won’t get worse during your adventure❤
Awesome video as always Chris and Marianne. Congratulations on making it to Thailand can't wait to see all the epic places and delicious food y'all are going to explore.
Be alert especially Marianne, the temperature through out the week may raise up to 30 -38 degree celcus, May cause heat stroke, so Please drink lot of water and always keep away from direct contact with Sun. Frequent shower required in order to cool down the body heat.
Plus electrolytes or coconut milk is very hydrating as includes electrolytes (part of its job is to keep the fluid in body longer) ie drinking excess water without electrolytes is just as dangerous as dehydration most marathon runners knows this as some have died when not Inc electrolytes. ps I'm aware of this as my medical condition needs me to keep hydrated.
So glad Marianne was Ok in the end. 👍🏼 Marianne. Also glad you got your paperwork sorted, makes you wonder what exactly the 500 dollars was actually for as you’d done the form filling already, but you had no choice! Looking forward to seeing your adventures. Stay safe both of you.
That is lot of wait time but the food, culture, people are all great in Thailand - enjoy dnd waiting to see videos of Thailand drive and experiences- a big thank you!
Safe trip to UK both of you. Come back again to Malaysia b’coz you missed the East Coast further up due to the monsoon rain and flood. Cover too the Pan-Borneo Highway. Our 16th King (Agong) and Queen with their sons and daughters have covered the Borneo Highway last year.
What a great travel video you guys made, I enjoyed watching the video full of new things I didn't know. Malaysia is a beautiful country, and other southeast Asia countries are also wonderful places to travel. Can't wait to watch Myanmar, Vietnam, Indonesia, Cambodia, Brunei, S'pore.
That must have been so stressful, but at least the hotel was nice and you got there in the end. Chris is right worrying is a waste of energy. I try to just deal with the bumps in the road as they happen too, but it's not always easy. Glad you're feeling better Marianne. I hope by the time you read this you are both having a whale of a time in Thailand 😊👍❤
Yes, come to Borneo and travel from the tip of Borneo in Telok Melano, Sarawak to Kudat, Sabah (via Brunei). Then to Kalimantan as well. There are several interesting places waiting for you to discover here in Borneo.
Great vlog.... I've lived on Koh Samui for nearly 10 year's. Most year's we drive up to Udon Thani and for me it's a 3 day trip because of the madness... Advise you start driving in the outside lane, I know it goes against your instincts but you'll Have a much nicer drive and less wear/tear on Trudy...Trust Me... It's excepted on the roads here..Stay Save..
Loving couple travelling in a cute little van around the world in 80 days.....?? Haha......anyway have a pleasant trip to complete your journey.........God Blessed for a safe trip back to UK.....

I lost my USA passport in Bangkok few years ago. You reminded me the exhilarations and boredom of traveling. I enjoy the quotes about traveling in your videos.
What a frustrating time! A bit late but sending big hug to Marianne 🤗. You are intrepid travellers and so glad you had a happy ending! Looking forward to Thailand! Keep safe and keep trucking 🚌🚌
Yes border crossing is not always easy, especially with your own vehicle foreign to the land, but try to think of it as a small small hiccup compared to the wonderful thought of seeing new places, stay positive and cheer up friends, and please stay safe
New to your channel and just watched a couple of your videos 😊. I do have a question, what made you both travel round south east Asia with a uk vehicle and not rent there?
What a mountain of patience you both have? What on earth can you do in Danok for 10 days?? As the regional engineer for the North South Highway in 1991, I can't even fit enough to do in half a day when I do my once a fortnight visit there for work. You must write a book on how to pass time in Danok.😂 Thank god, all's well that ends well.
please drink lot of water, the weather is about to get hotter even in Thailand, enjoy your trip in Malaysia, hope to see you guys visiting us again , take care safe trip
Farewell Malaysia ... Hello Thailand. I just can't imagine you staying in Dannok for 10 days. Hat Yai is about 1 hour and lots of places to explore during your 10 days at the border town. Safe journey through Thailand.. there's no tolls in Thailand only around Bangkok but fuel is expensive (double compared to Malaysia)
Malaysia's weather can be brutal sometimes, especially before the rain is coming. It can be as hot as 36°C near or on the road. Drink plenty of water guys and stay safe.
No worries. Come to east malaysia in a borneo island. No issues about it. I saw 1 american car drove here in kuching. And in Miri, you'll see Bruneians cars around too We on the east is way different than the complicated west malaysia
