@skinjim123 In the making of (second part if you search for it) Zimmer explains, that he composed all the themes in "two days and a night" and gave them to Badelt (as he himself was quite busy composing for another film), who finished the work. If you compare the soundtrack to other works of Badelt and Zimmer from the early 2000s - there are far more similarities between POTC and The Gladiator or King Arthur, to name two films from that period, than between POTC and Badelt's other music. 🤔

I love how in the beginning you think he's leading some majestic ship only to realise it's just a small boat that's already sinking LOL...he's still captain though...that's Jack Sparrow!
I LOVE Jack's introduction! It's awesome. Love Jack too^^ "It's a shilling to tie up your boat to the dock..." *Jack looks doubtfully at his sunken dinghy* ALWAYS cracking up at that :)
I love this scene in particular because the build of character is amazing. Everything this scene shows defines exactly what Jack is. We start with Jack watching the horizon from the top of the mast, with an epic pose. The take makes us believe Jack has this huge ship, due to the hight he appears to be standing. He looks confident, epic and determined, like a sort of a "winner" if you agree. The scene making us believe that Jack is SOMEONE. But just on the next take, from one second to another, Jack jumps to the buttom of a, what appears to be a tinny tiny boat, were they reveal us two things that are key to understand Jacks character (1) its not a ship, its just a small boat (2) the boat is sinking 😂🤦♀️ and he uses a bucket to keep it at float. All they told us on the first take vs the one with the sinking ship, kinda creates this funny and contradictory persona of Jack: epic, confident and determined, but with all odds againts him. The next take, the one with the hanging dead corps, hints us two things about Jack (1) he a sort of "Moral Code" related to piracy. This tell us he engages to a piracy code of some sort that he respects (2) They confirm us he is actually a pirate (very important). The next scene, Jack arrives to port with the boat fully sunken like nothing happened, keeping his integrity all the way. While funny, this is a master piece of a scene. With no words spoken yet, they defined to perfection Jacks character. Metaphorically speaking, Captain Jack Sparrow, who sees himself as a huge imposing ship, is actually a small sinking boat that even againts all odds he manages to get to destination anyways, with an epic entrance. This scene forshadows Jacks character: he is a pirate that will always find a way to get from point A to point B, with nothing stopping him from doing so, no matter the circumstances. With no shame nor nothing to prove, Jack keeps character and hopes high. In the last scene, were Jack nimbly persuades and also steals from the tax collector, it show us very well Jacks remaining attributes that thrusts his persona: his persuasive, thief and opportunistic nature, his misleading mind games, and most of all... The luck that surrounds him. All above said, this scene is one to take in note on how to build character. Its simply a master piece.
I know this is not the place to talk about it, but Sparrow is Hermes/Mercury, the Spirit who perfects, transforms, transmutes the soul. look at the name: will turn - this is pure hermeticism, the black(lead) will turn to red(gold).

What an entrance. I mean it tells use everything we need to know about Jack. He’s both incredibly lucky and unlucky at the same time. Just goes with the flow of life. Has respect for his fallen pirate brothers (I love the salute he does)
Time where Pirates of the Caribbean was somehow classy, had good script, had more subtle humor, Jack wasn't about goofy crazy-comedy and when Depp wasn't overracting. When other Pirates of the Caribbean movies have been watchable, Curse of the Black Pearl was excellent, being pretty much the best adventure-comedy film of the early 2000's.
It's the same story as The Mummy. The Mummy was the best action-adventure-comedy of the 90's. The Mummy 2 was pretty good. After that I'd like to pretend no other films were made. Curse of the Black Pearl was the best action-adventure-comedy of the 2000's, Dead Man's Chest was pretty good with moments of OTT slapstick, and the rest said about the rest of the series the better. Each subsequent Pirates film had fewer and fewer good moments.
Its the problem all running properties have. Ever heard of the trope "Jumping the Shark"? Each proceeding sequel in the franchise tries to outdo the other, trying to keep things interesting. All the while loosing the foundation grounding as precedent upon precedent of the weird, the fantastical gets ever more entrenched. They get more self-referential, etc. Some things just need to end or have... well proper new beginnings (Guts in the Manga a good example of cyclical use of the heroes journey)

Took all of 60 seconds to make me fall in love with this Character, who by the way is the most Recognized character in cinematic history, by sight, silhouette, Hat, voice, movements, any kid, man or women can tell you who he is, the one and only....
Mr. Smith.
I love pirates of the caribbean, but he is not the most recognized character
@@skydetheking Disagreeing with me isn't proof :3
@@MerchantIvoryfilms If you argue that Jack Sparrow is the most recognized character, that would be a fact, not an opinion. That fact however, is incorrect. Don't type factual sentences, that have nothing to do with the truth. He is not the most recognized character, period. Ask for proof if you want, I have that.
@@skydetheking yelling im wrong isn't proof lmfao. Try again
@@MerchantIvoryfilms I didn't give the proof yet kiddo. Try to give me 1 reason why Darth Vader would be less recognizable?
So iconic, couldn't take my eyes off of a single frame 🔥🔥🔥
A respectful and prideful pirate, who always get stuck in worst situations because of goofiness? And still being prideful af?
That's what I got from this scene.
1:03 best scene of the whole series.

This scene was epic and funny at the same time !!!
Sad how Johnny never wants to do another Pirates movie because of the way the producers treated him after Amber lied on him.
Yeah I feel rlly bad
@@Sidowse if they came up with a coherent story for movies 4-6 it would have been fine I guess. But making them standalone movies is just hallow and undeserving to the franchise.

This entire scene is literally a masterclass on how to introduce a character
I don't care if Pirates 4 & 5 were bad, I don't care if any future Pirates movies end up being bad. As long as Johnny Depp is playing Captain Jack Sparrow, I'll definitely watch the movie. To me, the man's the G.O.A.T.
Greetings from johnny depp👋 thanks for your care, support and love you show through your comments and likes i'm so grateful to entertain you❤
Where are you watching from?
I can’t believe that 2003 was the year I watched Harry Potter, The Lord Of The Rings 3, X Men 2, and Pirates of the Caribbean released in theaters.
This is what goes through my head as I ride the escalator! The song, the stance, even the step off at the end!
The step…yeah!
Oh my god same 🤣 Still goes through my head to this day!
This, children, is how I met my favourite disney character.
Honestly one of the best introducements I've ever seen to a character

I’m not even a fan of the franchise, but THAT entrance + the score? Nailed.
"I’m not even a fan of the franchise". I remember when Pirates of the Caribbean was a ride at Disney World. Go listen to your K-pop and make TikToks.
@@riproar11 Uhm I never, in my entire life, listened to K-Pop or made TikToks, I am, however, a film critic and writer with a degree from NYU, so how about you stop making assumptions about people you don’t know and feel superior to everyone who doesn’t share your taste in movies? :) Jeez…

How long have you been a Fan
Still the best example of "Show, Don't Tell" I've ever seen from a writing standpoint...
Don't forget the fact that Jack knew exactly how much water to bucket out of the boat so that it'd sink just enough to land him on the dock
Dear god...
Implying he’s been in this situation numerous times haha
I love how in the beginning you think he's leading some majestic ship only to realise it's just a small boat that's already sinking LOL...he's still captain though...that's Jack Sparrow!
I remember people in the theater laughing
That’s got to be the greatest Pirate I’ve ever seen.
Master of all scenes , such a creativity such an honour to jack 👏
Goodbye Captain, we love you and we'll miss you dearly.
One more round 🙏
Tells you everything you need to know about jack in under 2 minutes
It was like, Disney knew that this will be one of the most iconic shots in Cinema History
One of the best, if not the best, introduction of the protagonist to the audience.🤘
I LOVE Jack's introduction! It's awesome. Love Jack too^^
"It's a shilling to tie up your boat to the dock..." *Jack looks doubtfully at his sunken dinghy* ALWAYS cracking up at that :)
Excellent analysis. I'd like to read more from you.
I know this is not the place to talk about it, but Sparrow is Hermes/Mercury, the Spirit who perfects, transforms, transmutes the soul.
look at the name: will turn - this is pure hermeticism, the black(lead) will turn to red(gold).
You should write a book. I'll buy it
damn you have written a lot argumentative essay in your academic career, it shows haha
Thanks, I'm blind and deaf. I'm so happy that I got to read your comment for a clip I searched for!
This day will always be remembered as the day they "almost" caught Captain Jack Sparrow
Not to mention he had an amazing crew on board. Respect for sailor Ben and gunner Camille😂❤️✨
JP is Pirates of the Caribbean he created the franchise. The other actors were great but he's the one that brought it all together I can't see myself enjoying it without seeing him.
1:03 i love how welcoming the music is even though his boat is sinking.
I’ve never been much into movies but I remember saying as a kid that pirates of the Caribbean was my favorite series of movies.
I don't care what's Disney gonna do after the case, I'm just always remember that is a legend pirate name Jack Sparrow roled by Johnny Depp

The most iconic entrance in cinematic history
What an entrance. I mean it tells use everything we need to know about Jack. He’s both incredibly lucky and unlucky at the same time. Just goes with the flow of life. Has respect for his fallen pirate brothers (I love the salute he does)
No one can replace Johnny depp as Jack ❤️
Yeah certainly not Johnny Depp is the best role as Captain Jack Sparrow
Time where Pirates of the Caribbean was somehow classy, had good script, had more subtle humor, Jack wasn't about goofy crazy-comedy and when Depp wasn't overracting.
When other Pirates of the Caribbean movies have been watchable, Curse of the Black Pearl was excellent, being pretty much the best adventure-comedy film of the early 2000's.
5uomalainen fuck off please. No one gives a single fuck about your opinion. Everyone loved the series.
Atharva Dixit that is until 4 and 5
It's the same story as The Mummy.
The first 3 were masterpieces and grossed billions not sure ive seen the ones after though its easy to forget how great they were.
This gets recommended to me now, RUclips algorithm is unbelievable.
How he sailes in the harbor is EXACTLY how I picture myself being a pirate.
Jack Sparrow is the "Pirate" of the Caribbean we all want to see. Without him it is now just the Caribbean, which we can care less of. Bad job Disney.
well actually the caribbean is very beautiful. :D But i get your point.
He is the Caribbean. So without Jack Sparrow, all we have is 'of the', which doesn't sound like a compelling title now does it.
