  • Great to get the airplane airborne again after so much work by the team.
This functional check flight was to reclear the airplane post maintenance. Between the brakes and the hydraulic system much of the flying focused on the gear. After the third gear retraction went much slower than expected we decided to cut out the multiple landing circuits that were planned. On descent there was an intermittent inner gear door light, which appeared to be related to airspeed. From the video though we could see that the gear never locked up.
    Report below:
    Flight Summary
    Engine Start: 3:20
    Engine Shutdown: 3:59
    Flt Time: 0.7 HRS
    Landings: 1
    Fuel Used: ~10 Gal
Total Time After Flight: 10.8 Hrs
    Start CG: 89.20
    End CG: 89.20
    Power Settings
    Take Off 42" 4200
    Climb 30" 3500
    Cruise 25" 3000
    Three Gear Cycles
    3 Landings Pilot Proficiency
    Maintenance Before Flight
    Engine removed
    Oil leak addressed
    Mag slop addressed
    Mag timed
    New Fuel Pump
    Gear
    New Thunder Mustang Forks
    New Beringer Wheels
    New Beringer Brakes
    Overhauled Main Gear hyd actuators
    Overhauled Tail Gear hyd actuators
Overhauled Inner Gear door hyd actuators
    Squawks:
EFIS airspeed missing - steam gauge and altimeter fine
    Engine missed during climb out
Third gear retraction - right main very slow
Inner Gear Door Light during descent (195-200 MIAS)
    Postflight:
Uplock found to be out of adjustment, which is likely why the gear was sagging. The lock was removed and sent to the manufacturer for assessment.
Talking to other Stewart Mustang operators, it sounds like many have lowered VLO from the published 130 MIAS. Many have found the gear has trouble retracting at this speed.
