    The 2000's was the golden age of Premier League strikers. Henry, Rooney, Drogba, Torres, Shearer, Van Nistelrooy, Owen, Berbatov, etc. Strikers back then just had a different aura about them than what we see nowadays. Even the likes of Anelka and Defoe were brilliant players
    That's not to say that the Premier League has a lack of talent at the moment but I can't really think of any Premier League strikers who currently have the same flair that those older players had
    Maybe wingers such as Salah and Son (not so much nowadays due to their age but certainly a few years ago) and potentially Saka and Foden in the next few years, but in terms of out and out strikers, there's really not really anyone who comes to mind who both has that flair and matches the same level of quality and consistency (Haaland is undoubtedly world class but I wouldn't exactly think of flair when describing him)

    • @dxfifa
      @dxfifa 8 месяцев назад +5

      Team defensive structure especially in midfield was very poor compared to now in the premier league before the 2010s. That allowed the star strikers (and the playmakers who set them up) to be in advantageous positions more often. Now it takes a team to be Man City good to create chances for a striker constantly not on the counter. Looking back on prem games teams got so much time on the ball and there was so much space between defence and midfield to exploit. Now teams whole strategy is relentless pressure, numbers in the middle of the park and try to force a mistake while the opponent has to push numbers forward to break you down, then counter in a 3v3

    Im old enough to have seen Wayne Rooney burst onto the scene. He created an enormous raucus of excitement and lived up to expectations, then the standard of the EPL was also evolving and his brilliance appeared to become less prominent at the time. I think everyone expected godlike status from him because he was so young when he started at the top. Its as though he didnt really achieve all time legendary status and recognition. Now, when I watch this, I am reminded of his absolute natural gift of supremacy in this sport. Better yet, I am so impressed with his humility and honesty. Wow! Garnacho's goal was better? Wth? This is a man of distinction! His ego or pride does not cloud his judgement, and his awareness of the situation he was in at that young age, did not smother his potential at all. So impressive, THANK YOU SO MUCH Sir Wayne Rooney! You ARE indeed a legendary icon of this game. So sh*t that I am also old enough to have witnessed his retirement. One expects people like him to carry on forever. How silly of me, but he DID create the thought of everlasting greatness through his ridicilous skill, maturity, discipline, humility, power, stamina, resilience perseverance and dignity. I am a superfan now I have to say. Thanks brother Wayne.

His stats and numbers that so many people want to go off of could have been so much higher had he been a selfish player, but he was always willing to take a back seat and play the role the team needed to win. He's not just a world-class striker, but a true captain as well. His passing rating should be at least 90 as he was capable of holding the midfield dept, his long range passes have always been scrumptiously exquisite, a carbon copy of Scholesesque kind of passing technique but more physically in presence in the midfield and intelligent as well. For me and many who know the sheer quality of a CM, he could've been the best replacement for Scholes/Carrick should Mou have desired him to play deep, but Mou insisted he could still perform like a 16-year-old striker. That shitty reason alone killed his career at United, sadly. These FIFA stats still don't do any justice really. Henry tops the passing rating over Rooney is the funniest thing I've read. With all due respect, he's a world-class player as well but he doesn't have the pinging abilities and scoring from the halfway line like so-called the legendary "White Pele". He's the last United's real warrior who was always fighting for the badge.

    Can't argue that his technique was amazing and the goal looked amazing, but as for catching it perfect...😂
    It was off the middle of his shin! 😂😂
    He should say that he caught it perfectly on the middle of his shin!
    One of the great overhead shin shots ever in football! 😂

    The fact that Rooney has better or equal stats than Drogba in every single category, yet Drogba has a higher overall rating than Rooney is criminal
    The ‘ratings’ people at, formerly FIFA, now FC, need to be fired

    Rooney is an all-time great!
    Check this out, Bernardo Silva is praised for not having a fixed position. He is considered one of the most versatile footballers of his generation. His ability to slot into any position and do well is rightly lauded.
    By the same token, Rooney was that and much more for his generation and his generation had greater players (Messi and CR7 anyone?).
    Rooney doesn't get the credit for making sacrifices. He played wherever he was asked to and excelled for many years. On the left, on the right, second striker, striker, number 10, Centre mid, etc. He gave a 100% wherever he was deployed.
    One of my all-time favourite players. Unplayable on his day.
