One of the masterpieces of my blessed Beatles, the explosion in terms of composition, musical experimentation of the most legendary band in history 😌🤌. Greetings Steph
" Living is easy with eyes closed misunderstanding all you see" ... one of the best 1st lines to any song IMO 😉
Sounds like a lot of people these days.
I suggest you listen again without watching the video. This song is an organic and technical masterpiece. By organic. The song was recorded in two different keys. One with guitars and bass the other with horns and strings. As they were leaving the studio John told George Martin that he liked both versions and could he use some of the first and some of the second. Martin said but they’re in two different keys. John was like oh you’ll figure it out and they left. George Martin and the engineer slowed down one version and sped up the other on primitive 60’s recording equipment until they matched. That organically added to the trippy sound. The strings on this are awesome. Ringo’s high hat is reverse recorded and the instrument that connects the verses is an Indian instrument.
Yeah, she totally missed the song
Yes. Another video that adds nothing, and certainly detracts from the song. Most all psychedelic music from the 60’s are most definitely best listened to with eyes closed. Just like Lennon’s lyrics indicate here.
Like the music the video is psychedelic and a treat for the ears, so many sounds, The Beatles take you on a journey no other band can reach.
An absolute masterpiece and my favourite of The Beatles. 💖💖
The Beatles made a lot of Love Songs, but perhaps thier Greatest was George's song "Something"... He wrote it about his wife, Patti Boyd. She's a Rock Legend without even singing a note, as she had Several Iconic songs written about her... Some from George, and some from her next Husband Eric Clapton! His Song "Layla" was about her!
This song was John Lennon's like homage to his childhood in Liverpool. Not far from where he grew up there was this place called Strawberry Field and it was used by the Salvation Army. John used to sneak in there to play as a child and every summer there used to be a garden party which John loved to attend.
One of the first promo videos to promote the singles . Beatles were on the forefront of that marketing play. I think Rain and Paperback Writer in Summer 66 were the first. This was first premiered in America in February 67 on a television variety show hosted by Dean Martin called Hollywood Palace.
Help
@CharlesHoward-ud6qv Just looked it up. We're both wrong. It was I Feel Fine.
The Beatles co-invented the art of music videos - already with their fantastic movie A Hard Day's Night, the mother of all music films. Check also out Paperback Writer, Help, Penny Lane etc... It is hard to believe that these videos are nearly 60 years old. The dog is Martha and was Paul's. He wrote a song about her two years later.
The dog in the video was Paul's Old English Sheepdog ' Martha ' who was the inspiration for his song ' Martha My Dear ' on the White Album 😊
Two versions were recorded with different instruments and spliced together to make one song. Where Lennon's vocal wanders during "going to;" after that point, the second take is slowed down, which causes the vocal to have more of a nasal sound.
The story goes that John Lennon couldn't decide on which of the two versions to release, so he left George Martin with the instruction to try an put them together. Martin was flabbergasted - they were in different keys and different tempos! But he found that by speeding up the first part and slowing down the second, he could make the two roughly match. The "magical mystery" edit occurs at exactly :59 seconds in, between the words "Let me take you down, 'cause I'm" /edit/ "Going to... Strawberry Fields." Be cautious in listening for this edit! You will never hear this song the same way again. Martin was never completely pleased with the edit, but it just goes to show how creative and innovative the aging geniuses had become by the late '60s.
This was the song that divided Bealtes fans in early 1967....some hated their new look with mustaches and strange sounding music you couldn't dance to... that wasn't the cute Beatles in the suits doing love songs and rock and roll. Other went with it, loved it. It was the flip side of Penny Lane, a bouncy song reminiscing about their old neighborhood in Liverpool etc. Both songs had home made promtotion videos. Back in he day most only HEARd the song, no video, on the radio stations. These songs wer eintened to go on the Sargeant Pepper'sLonely Hearts Club Band album but the needed anew single, and did not include them on that. IKN the USA they put them on the next album, Magical Mystery Tour, along some other hits, and songs from the Magical Mystery Tour 1 hour TV film that we never saw in the USA either...until years later. ...long story...
BEST PR EVER: In the End Crescendo, You'll heard a man mumbling "I buried Paul"... Referring to a Rumor that Paul McCartney had died in a Car Accident in 1965 and the Studio replaced him with a Double. The Beatles poked fun at it by leaving "Hints" in some of their Songs and Album Covers.
On the "Sgt. Pepper's lonely Hearts Club band Cover, there were a TON of Clues... Especially them standing by a Grave.
This Continued until their Break up... On the Abbey Road Cover, there's many hints as well, Each Beatle is dressed for a Story... George was the Grave Digger, Ringo was the Mortician and John was "The Big "J"... Paul was Barefoot ( a reference to "Dieing with my boots off") and out of step with the others... he's also the only one smoking.... GREAT PR, don't you think?
That was John saying "cranberry sauce".
@@detritus8095it was American that came up with the Paul is dead conspiracy theory, Britain just ignored it and so did the Beatles. There is no truth in the rumour that they went along with it or dropped clues.
amazing song, Steph - has and will always be in my Beatles Top-3 - so mysterious, creative and poetic... timeless! 💖
Obra maestra de los mas grandes de la historia ❤
Such a wild, new look for The Beatles in 1967 ........the song itself is one of John's best
This was a promotional video. It was not released to the public at the time the song made radio. And it wasn't meant to be. That's fuckin' crazy. I know, because i was alive when this song "hit the air waves." These guys were so ahead of the times. They understood the power of media, and they took advantage of it. And they weren't alone. All the bands from the '60s would thrive today, and we would have higher music standards as a result.
Yes, during the more psychedelic time of the Beatles, the late 60’s
Videos back in the 60s were very goofy. The camera crew showed up with some props and told the band "lets goof around and see what we get". Usually not planned out at all.
A psychedelic classic and one of their very best songs and artistic video. There music was groundbreaking and still is unsurpassed. For another, do the official video for I Am the Walrus. It is similar to this in its trippy atmosphere and artistic treatment. Enjoy! 🔥🎵🎸🎤🎸🎤🎸🎹🎻🎺🎶🔥
This promotional film was used on television ads to promote the single. There was no MTV to show this on for another 14 years. Record stores would use this to get people into their shops by using this film along with their name, address and phone number on the screen. Plus, only 30 seconds of the song would usually be seen on tv.
Paul had actually just written "Penny Lane' about their local bus stop, where he would meet up with John and George in Liverpool. So John wrote this song about his local childhood fantasy-land. They say John had a little "Fort" built amongst a thicket of trees in the garden.
This is probably THE first music video ever made. It was made to promote the song, and wasn't released until long after the song was released.
Good to see you back. I hope everything is well. I like the song with its psychedelic sound. Strange but cool. Keep up the reactions. The Led Zeppelin family misses you.
At the end of the song, people thought they were saying “I buried Paul” there was a rumor that Paul was dead and people were finding “clues” in the album art that Paul was dead
That rumor started in 1969.
It's so nice to follow the music on your journey, their music represents a timelessness that always fascinates and takes you along.
I agree with the others here. Music videos didnt exist back then as they do now. This older music was written to be listened to. I remember when this came out and all the controversy around the changes in look and sound. I didnt see this video until probably 20 years later!
As a tribute to John Lennon, a section of Central Park West(72nd St
)across the street from a building complex named The Dakotas where he lived- is called Strawberry Fields. Where its an attraction that people go to. Also to take there picture on a sign called Imagine(another iconic John Lennon song)
Strawberry Fields is a real place in Liverpool near where John lived
After a string of something like nine consecutive No.1 hit singles, Strawberry Fields was the first Beatles single that did NOT make No.1. That's how far ahead of its time it was. Their producer, the legendary George Martin maintained that he thought it was one of their best songs, but the public just wasn't ready for it. With the benefit of hindsight, I think most people can appreciate how groundbreaking it was. Even now it still sounds revolutionary, and it's hard to believe this song is over 50 years old.
Strawberry Fields Forever was actually the B Side of Penny Lane which reached number one.
@@gpxo11 That was in America, in the UK it was a double A side which only got to number 2.
Forget the video. It's in the music, that is all that matters.
It’s a shame that the videos get used for reactions. Huge distraction and adds nothing to the experience unless they are live.
Stupid comment
The Beatles are the best. More please!
Somebody buy this girl a poster!
Syd Barrett did it well too in his hey day at that time
Remember it being released with 'Penny Lane' on the other side (double A). Oddly I remember it being on the jukebox in the local next to Whistling Jack Smith singing (well Whistling actually)' I was Kaiser Bill's Batman'
Drugs (especially LSD) really opened the minds of these guys and fired the creativity of John Lennon and Paul McCartney in particular.
Steph
Both surviving members of Beatles: Paul & Ringo reunited at a concert recently.
P.S. I love what you’re doing and your reaction to the Beatles is awesome. In my previous post I mentioned that you should listen without watching the video. My reason for saying that is because the video is so different it captures the viewers attention and takes away from really listening to everything that is going on musically. Please keep doing what you’re doing 😎
A work of art!
nice reaction.... imagine the effect of this music in 1966.... you are going to enter the magic and mysterious world of Beatles psychedelia
For a complete contrast to "Fields", "Til There Was You".
Strawbery fields was opening up the Psychedelic era ehich I grew up in. And loved every minute of it.
We didn’t see videos much when this came out. Part of my life fabric.
Speaking of trippy - you could try the band "Jefferson Airplane" with the song "White Rabbit"- I would recommend the version with over 70 million clicks.
Or you could enter "The Rolling Stones" - a band that sooner or later is really a must cause its one of the great rock bands of the 60s (and 70s and 80s and 90s and 2000s and 2010s 😀 ) - their song "Sympathy for the devil" is also kind of trippy.
But in the end there are many trippy songs.
And I could imagine you would like Pearl Jam because of the voice singer Eddie Vedder who has a really unique and special voice. But... you are young and there is a lot time 😀
Thanks for your reaction like always 🙂
Really like your comments at the end. And the other thing is even without the video, this is a musical masterpiece. I would encourage you sometime to just shut your eyes and listen to this and really drop down into that world.
The video to "I'm the Walrus" probably rivals this one in craziness. Besides, it's a great song - more on the weird/psychedelic side of the Beatles - and should be on your list.
But than again, every Beatles song should be on your list :D
I love that John (the Walrus) liked to Mess with the Fans minds so in the Song "Glass Onion" he says "The Walrus was Paul"... That got him some Hate Mail... hehehe
@@quixote6942 Hahaha. I noticed other cross-references between songs, but never this one. Thx for sharing.
one of my all time faves! dbl ♥
good song but they really missed a trick at the end when George outros with his guitar because its the best bit in the whole song, if this was Pink Floyd they would have stretched it out to another 5 minutes instrumentally 3:22
Hi Stephanie!!! You missed at the very end when John Said: I buried Paul. Dig into that one my dear!!!!!!! Sending Love and Light from Michigan usa
They were definitely entering new territory, many wondered at the time if the Beatles were taking Rock in a new direction, away from its blues roots.
This is from their psychedelic LSD (acid) period in 1967.
This one by John is brilliant on every level and still sounds as weird and wonderful now as it did 57 years ago in 1967.
Hi just subscribed to your channel , Love to see young people react to the songs of the past for the first time. Looked through your videos and didn’t see any Janis Joplin reactions if you can please react to “Janis Joplin” singing “Cry Baby” live in Toronto 1970. Would really like to see your reaction to her. I grew up in the 70’s and she was 1 of a kind. Thank you for your consideration. Hope you do this, I think your followers would appreciate this also if they never heard of her. Keep doing what you do, your reactions are amazing.
Listen to the song "Martha, My Dear". The sheepdog you saw at the end there was Martha.
There are a very few songs that I’ve heard in my life that made me pause and think, “wow, that’s different.” She Loves You by The Beatles was one. The music landscape in the U.S. was pretty bleak when it hit the airwaves. Purple Haze by Jimi Hendrix is another one. It was so different compared to everything else that was on the radio then. This is one too. Other worldly.
John's masterpiece
Drenched in LSD
The one The only BEATLES. Four of the greatest singer song writers. . All rapped up in one group. . Love your reaction to them. You also give lots of information about the group. Did you know that GEORGE HARRISON WAS ONLY ALLOWED TO WRITE ONE SONG ON EACH ALBUM. THEY WERE SOME OF THE BEST BEATLES SONGS. 😂😂
Magical Mystery Tour ~ 1967
The best was to Capture the Beatles music is not to watch the videos, but just listen to the songs. The videos were meant to be silly and avant-garde for the time
Try IAmTheWalrus for an equally experimental Lennon tune from the same era, Steph.
I loved it so much that I played it for my Mum back-in-the-day!
But please not the music video - poor audio quality!
Hi friend, I really like your reactions. Could you react to the latest song by The Beatles? Its title is Now and Them? You will like the video and it will make you very emotional. I hope you don't take long to react to it. I send you my regards from Mexico.
Mind expanding drugs. When the doors of perception are cleansed things will appear as they truly are. Infinite!!!!
The Beatles were the greatest rock group of all time. Led Zeppelin was the greatest rock band of all time. That's how you thread that needle. New to your channel just came across a good luck and have a blessed New Year
........ Penny Lane, there is a barber showing photographs
"Eleanor Rigby" from Yellow Submarine.
The video is certainly strange, but the music and lyrics are amazing!☮🎄
Paul’s famed sheepdog Martha.
The difference you detect is LSD. The Beatles were high as kites on it during this period of their lives and careers.
Check out the great video the Beatles did for a fantastic John Lennon song called "Rain".
Hey Steph, do you think the guys were getting into drugs at this time?
This one neat, yet I like some of their other psychedelic stuff even more.
Merry Christmas.
It wasn't " I Buried Paul" it was "Cranberry Sauce"
I’m very bored
@@CharlesHoward-ud6qv Yeah! John said in one interview, "That was me saying "I'm very bored"."
@@debjorgo And yet when you listen to the session tape without the fade-out, it's very obvisouly "cranberry sauce." He says it multiple times.
@@KBOB-mi8gb I think John had to be speaking facetiously. "That was me saying "I'm very bored"." Meaning just goofing off for no reason.
The Beatles discovered LSD.
Brit2001b brilliant reworking of Strawberry Fields and other Beatles
Penny Lane is also a place from their childhood in Liverpool
You're watching the first music videos. Before The Beatles, I don't recall any.
Hi Stephanie, nice reaction. I have not seen you reacting to Putri first album”EvolveE” beautiful songs, variations of genre, pls react to this, i always enjoy watching you.
Have you seen the Iam the Walrus music video? If so i think you will find it interesting
Ahh the music video they definitely made on acid
"Living is easy with eyes closed..." you should try and live with eyes open John, you'd see girls with pink cat's ears...😮 - the horror... the horror...
NEWLY SUBSCRIBED. Awesome channell, nice to know you. More Beatles - Try their song SOMETHING.
The video is funny but incidental. The most important thing is the song.
More beatles pls
What a stunning beauty you are!
A trip ? This is not a trip compared with Tomorrow Never knows.
Young reactors can't help it. They HAVE TO WATCH videos.
is this their best song?
The best Beatles song is the next one you listen to
I think the visuals distract from the music.
True. I made the same comment above
The video sucks. The music is so masterful and beautiful. I feel like watching this video takes away from the music, you need to let it play in your mind’s eye. IMHO of course.
Hello there hey there hey there
This is a really crazy video. If you just listen to the song, the words are not that trippy.
Welcome to the psychedelic world
Wc fields forever 😅
Sadly - even though I love Beatles videos, I find that this video is very distracting to what John is actually singing about. People get caught up in the psychedelic visuals and don't concentrate on John's escapist lyrics paying homage to the place of joy that he knew while growing up.
The lyrics are brilliant....For instance, take this line -- "No one I think is in my tree, I mean it must be high or low". What does it mean? When John was a youth, he felt that his advanced perceptions and intelligence gave him concerns - was he higher (ahead of his peers, etc) or was he lagging behind as the stuffy old educators said (see his report cards for their comments!!)? He felt that nobody was on his level...in his tree. Very self observational and confessional...I think his pains as a youth - like others who have had painful childhoods - can open creative forces in the mind. John learned to write lyrics so well after Dylan woke him to the power of writing - a skill John had already but didn't realize he had the talents to be one of the best lyric writers of all time.
Shouldn't watch the video for this song..
Stupid comment
lol
The video is almost a distraction from the music which contains so many layers. I would suggest listening again without the video to appreciate the sheer genius of this composition.
It helps to not watch the videos. A huge and unnecessary distraction.
The song is beyond awesome. The lyrics are supurb. The video, not so much. Kind of distracting.
hello please can u react to BTS musics or single V’s songs
This was during their drug experimental stage
They were already into it during Help!
