I love them using the backwards music during the times John is in dreaming in this song. Their blend of voice all these cool sounds we hadn’t head much of back then.. I still sing this song to my sister when she visits 😊
Revolver was the most transformative LP/music in music, recording technology, and understanding of what was possible as music and recording. The birth of stereo as a recording technology
I love it, of course. An early favourite on the album (my parents’ copy). Sort of a stoner anthem really. Those harmonies ❤ Not only were they all stellar musicians, George, Paul, and John on vocals was/is divine.
Imagine placing this song, Tomorrow Never Knows, She Said She Said, Rain and Love You To on Sgt. Peppers along with Strawberry Fields and Penny Lane. The Beatles couldve walked away and been lauded as being from another planet.
A big part of the mix on this whole album was engineer Geoff Emerick's use of Artificial Double Tracking, where one track (usually the vocal on Revolver) was copied to another track with a slight delay, so it sounded like two tracks. The magic happens when the ADT tracks are hard=panned (with one slightly louder) and that's what's going on with the lead vocal on this track (and much of the album). A lot of the instrumental sounds are then mixed more in the center. Remember this album was made on four tracks.
Revolver is the perfect album, with one exception. During the album sessions, The Beatles chose to release a great single which they chose NOT to include on the record. That was "Paperback Writer" and its equally great B-side, "Rain". So, I hope that you will include them on your reaction to "Revolver".
Same with Strawberry Fields Forever and Penny Lane not being on Sgt Pepper - both should have been on it, but they used to feel they were ripping the fans off to put singles on albums. Gotta love The Beatles.
@@Tony-yp7ok I was going to mention that very point... There was such a pressure to do the singles by the industry that the Beatles were forced... But in reality Sgt Peppers would be best reflected with Strawberry Fields and Penny Lane... and that showcases the creative force that was flowing through them at that time.
The Beatles did something that was really difficult... They met the demand thrown at them to produce melodic hits, but to do it in two minute and three minute pieces in the earlier days. They could write so many of those pieces... They can write a masterpiece and make the song 2 minutes, 3 minutes or longer. What's astounding is the amount of melodic pieces they wrote that were very different from each other, but incredibly inspired. To me, 1965 to 1967 is the absolute peak, Even though Abbey Road was wondrous and set the template for the 1970s and beyond but there's just pure inspiration and creativity during this time period of 65 to 67.... Include in your listening the songs Rain and Paperback Writer to get the full picture of how incredible this time period is. Because those two could have easily been on the album
Factoids: From the Beatles English Parlophone version of the Revolver album. In the USA there were less songs on every album up until Sgt.Pepper [1967]. I'm Only Sleeping appeared on Yesterday and Today 1966...the one before Revolver in the USA, on the Capital label..that album had compilation of previous singles and flips sides not included on USA albums, plus 1 or 2 songs recorded earlier for the Revolver album...I'm Only Sleeping is one of those songs. Dr. Robert is another one.... I know, it's crazy and confusing isn't it? Back then we had no accessor idea the Brisih albums were dofferent than the ones we got. It was a marketing trick by the Capital label to get more money out of the Beatles by putting only no more than 11 or 12 songs on an LP, where in England the standard was 14 songs. england did't usually put th hitsngles ont he albums, the Beatles felt that was gipping their fans wo alreadybought the singles. in the USA they usually put 1 or hit singles [and possibly the flip sides] on the albums to entice the fans to buy the albums. Crazy isn't it?
There is a new video for this which is the current holder of the 2024 Grammy for the Best Music Video; as an artist yourself i think you will enjoy it as it is based musically on the recent remasters
If you're reacting to the 2009 Remaster of this Lp then No,No, No. You want the 2022 Remix, the sound and channeling are far superior. The backwards guitar solo that George played here he actually played it backwards, no studio trickery here and it took him 6 or 7 hours to work it out and record. George was a true perfectionist. Two more points here; on the 2022 remix in the deluxe is a bonus disc and on it is the single "Paperback Writer"/" Rain" and it sounds incredible. Released in April,1966 three months before the release of "Revolver". They would have fit right on that Lp. John's "Rain" sounds incredible and was the B-side on this single. John always felt it should have been the A-side and I 100% agree as it is an amazing track. This was the first Beatles Lennon track recorded shortly after he and George started taking LSD. So many recording first's in history on this song for me to get into except for first song ever with backwards music and vocals on the outro at the end. There is a video on U Tube you can watch called How The Beatles Recorded "Rain". It's fascinating, check it out. This single really should be played. Forgot to mention that one Beatles Lp hasn't been remixed and that's "Magical Mystery Tour" because it was never recognized as an Lp in the UK because it was released as a double EP there, not an Lp. The EP was the songs from the soundtrack to movie MMT. In the US Capitol Records released as an Lp putting all the songs from the film on side 1 and side 2 was all singles released previously in 1967. Now if you get to the "Sgt Peppers Lonely Hearts Club Band" which followed "Revolver" before you do the Lp you should do the single "Strawberry Fields Forever"/"Penny Lane" which was released as a double A-side because both tracks were so good and is still regarded today as the greatest single in history. These two were the first two tracks for "Pepper" before "Pepper" was "Pepper". All they knew was that they were the first two tracks recorded for their next Lp but they went out as a single before the Lp was released. If you do these two don't run to the 2009 remaster of " Magical MT". In Oct. 2023 the remixes of the 1974 double compilation Lp's The Beatles 1962-1966 and 1967-1970 were released and sound great. These two can be found on the the 1967-1970 remix Lp. They are the first two tracks on the Lp and they sound incredible. "Strawberry Fields Forever" blows me a way every time. Both of these new remix Lp's have a lot of bonus tracks on them which is great. These two are bonus tracks and a lot of what was on the US "MMT" Lp can be found on the new "67-70" Lp's. If you get to "MMT" first look at this "67-70" remix, a lot of the tracks are on here and are far superior to the 2009 remaster of "MMT". This may sound a little confusing but use my info as a guide. Your ears will thank you for it and remember that all Beatles Lp's from "Revolver" thru "Let It Be" have been remixed aside from "MMT". Those are the ones you want to check out, not the 2009 remasters. Peace ❤
This is so cool that you are doing one of the best albums of all times this week. I wonder what you will say to Love you to, Here There and Everywhere, and Tomorrow never Knows. Not only one of the most influencial albums but also extremely divcerse. Even though the production is not Pet Sounds, Sgt Pepper, Crime of the Century, or Dark Side of the Moon (which are probably the best produced albums of all times), the songs are superior and more experimental than on Sgt. Pepper (Day in the Life excluded).

@@jnagarya519 Not really it fits Bowie and Radiohead perfectly, not to mention the Beatles as well. Maybe you should look up the definition, you never know you might learn something. Three songs into Revolver and the only thing the songs have in common is their brilliance... the astonishing variety of the Beatles on full display

One of my favorites of Johns.
Good morning Brandon, This was one of my potential funeral songs! It lost out to Across the Universe
Did you have a lovely day?
Such a great song.
