    Honestly Nick, the mindset of probably 99% of us out here on RUclips are just looking for your expertise, not the MGM level of editing that the Hollywood Foreign Press is looking to award. Just throw it together and post. Looking forward to the next one.

    Special day that brings joy hearing from Mr Nick. On my kitchen table, trestle design, my kids wrap little toes around the table legs and stretcher. Agreed to break the edges a bit.

    I have always knocked off the edges of most of my pieces mainly due to the feel. Never occurred to me how it effects finishing. Great video! Thank you!

    None of us are where we were 5 years ago, but it's nice to hear your voice and your experience as a fellow wood worker. I use your table sled all the time -- works like a charm! Keep up the good fight!

    Nice job Nick. Send the videos, you put a lot of effort in them. So what if they are not
    perfect. It is the time and sweat put into them that make them outstanding. Let the
    window lickers that want it all perfect with no flaws complain. Thanks for effort Bub.

      Thanks man - I have a few more in the works that will be far from perfect lol

    Definitely agree with you knock it down with sandpaper it always seems to want to splinter in there the long splinters

    • @NickFerry
      @NickFerry  3 года назад +2

      I wish I would’ve mentioned that but yeah that’s a very valid point that the sanding sponges help out with if you get a splinter typically goes into the sponge not your finger

    Thanks for posting Nick. Don't worry the editing, just post footage. I love seeing and hearing your perspectives and insights.

    I concur entirely. I have a old hand router with a 1/16th inch roundover bit fitted and set up permanently, which I whiz around the edges of most components I make, which totally changes the feel of the part in one's hand, making it feel 'finished' and 'friendly', rather than sharp and uncomfortable to grip. Also I agree that the improvement in edge finishing is a major factor.

    • @NickFerry
      @NickFerry  3 года назад

      Thanks Don - it’s odd how much that can effect a piece

    I always enjoy your videos, Nick! Always enjoy your tips & tricks videos. I was breaking edges earlier this week. Building a general purpose folding table to take with me when my sons and I go shooting. Using the table I won't have to put my firearms on the tailgate of the truck. We go to a free range. It doesn't cost anything, but there are no amenities either. I'm making the table out of pine. Used water-based poly for a finish. I'll assemble the table tomorrow.

    Love the new format! And totally agree about the edges. I glue a bit of fine sandpaper to a piece of MDF and use that to break the edges - I feel like I get a bit more haptic feedback that way. Or I might just be fooling myself 😁

    I like to sharpen my edges with a set of Japanese water stones... I usually go up to about 10000 grit that way I can shave with my projects... LOL! Great tip Nick. Nothing worse than buffing a piece and breaking through all the edges because there's no finish on them... BTW, I dig the simplicity. It's more of a conversation that way.

    You're definitely not the person you were 5 years ago. I'd say about half? Looking slim sir.
    Not sure how appropriate it is to comment on folk's appearance, but hopefully you'll take it for its intended compliment! Good tip, also. I run mine along my chiseled jawline, leaving a perfect edge.

    www.paint.org/wp-content/uploads/2019/11/ctAPR_Schoff_Fig4.jpg This link shows exactly what happens to your finish as it encounters a sharp edge due to surface tension. Always round the corners.
