How one item changed the course of a war | FOXHOLE WAR 93

- One of the greatest comebacks in foxhole history happened in war 93 and it was all due to shovels, and new players. New players love digging trenches with shovels and with no high ranks around to shout at them they dug trenches and were able to hold out long enough until the Wardens mounted a counter attack to push back the colonials and win. At a stage the colonials had 30/32 victory points but didn't manage to pull off the victory and fell apart when they go counter attacked.

Remember not to take this video too seriously, there were a lot of reasons why the comeback happened. Let me know your overall thoughts on war 93 in the comments!
I guess there is still a grain of truth to that though.
It’s kinda how in war 89 the sheer presence of Tanneth increased partisan operations and their effectiveness across the entire warden front.
Glad I didn't play. As a colonial who fought in the most recent relic war I could only imagine the pain.
SHOVEL IS THE NEW META
imagine people actually using trenches like they are supposed to be used, its almost like there are historic examples of trenches being really fucking OP
You have to keep people manned in them though.
You could have 30 people in a trench line and that trench is powerful, but people can (and will) log out at any time and not "man" a trench line. Since trenches act like a "multiplier" for the strength of an infantry unit, it requires people to man it constantly or it becomes a liability for the enemy to use.
Historically speaking, you could force soldiers in the service to man trenches because they couldn't just "log out" (other than suicide/MIA).
Historically: Very OP because soldiers forced to stay in them
Foxhole: Very OP until people get bored and log out but enemy didn't log out.
@@Flunkerdunk but why would you abandon your trench and log out?

Great trenches!
@@waterbears9874 I think the giant longass one was the one by ice ranch.
I fucking hate it when high ranks try to tell people to stop. A double edged sword is still a sword. If you have no vehicles, are out numbered, or simply cannot move forward trenches are a good way to level the playing field and it seems much of the time high ranks would rather gate keep like sweaty little fucking nerds than admit this.
Trenches are good for pushing, but the reason people tell you not to build trenches is that they block placement for bunkers. Trenches are absolute hell for engineers to deal with since they either have to spend ridiculous amounts of time burying tier ones, or waste tons of mats worth of mammons clearing out tier twos.
While some may be too aggressive in telling you not to make trenches, it does serve a legitimate purpose. Only dig trenches when absolutely necessary, and never ever make them tier two. Otherwise engineers will have to spend all their time clearing trenches blocking their building rather than fortifying the land that you used trenches to take.
Until the devs actually give engineers a half decent way of clearing useless trenches, be very sparing in their use.
@@travisdickens4304 Fair enough
Problem is not the trenches. It is how new players find the worst designs to build them. A higher rank can build good trenches that actually help you to push while cpl's dig trenches allow enemy to enfilade 20 people with an mg
Double edged sword beats running and fighting in the open against artillery and machineguns
You have to told them, "I will stop digging trenches if You get US some damn tanks or artillery support"
Trenches are OP if the enemy refuses to use them. It truly is a double edged sword, if you’re on the move it’ll hurt you, but if you’re backs against the wall it’ll save you.
Just make barbed wire bro

New foxhole theme song for digging trenches
Brothers of the trench, rejoice!
No joke, when me and the guys were digging trenches many wars ago, we were singing Diggy Diggy Hole. Got the other guys on the front singing along as well.
I was in one battle where it seemed the main objective was to protect a team of trench builders as they built a trench parallel with the road. There was more arguing and bickering about the trench layout then how to tackle the enemy positions just past the fog. They were peppering us with gas grenades faster than we could get filters.
Every login I grabbed a grenadier outfit, maxed my gas nades, and loaded my launcher. So funny seeing 7 people trying to climb out of every trench and hole lmao
2:54 hahaha when they just start digging straight away right at the encampment
That cpl was on a mission!
as soon as i heard "but why didnt the colonials just build trenches to stop the comeback push" i knew what was coming lmfao
The War of 93, also known as the Great Comeback, was my first war. I joined up just a few days before we lost Basinhome, and I was struggling to really learn the game, but I never stopped playing Wardens. I only joined Wardens by chance; a RUclipsr by the name of "Crazy Banana" made a video with a ship, and its design was so strange I clicked on it, thinking it was another game. Nope, and I've loved it ever since. From Basinhome to Lochmir to the Heartlands, Deadlands, and beyond. I got the Coof two days before the war ended, and never got to see the final end of it, but man this was fantastic.
All we need now is an alien invasion for halloween!
The one thing that makes my day when playing Foxhole, is when an OCdt is yelling at me and a few others to stop digging trenches. But, we're jamming to the Fortunate Son while getting shelled, so they may have to speak up a bit.
Kriegsmen: We approve this message.
* Happy Gas Mask Noises *
I think trenches are great if you've got BMats to make the sandbags behind. I think they're underused and misused. Trenches are good in both offense and defense.
I also don't think foxhole players assault them correctly either. They don't organise shock troops and grenadiers as they should. In world war one a common tactic was to bring forth a line of grenadiers who'd throw grenades into a trench with a line of riflemen behind them. Once the grenadiers chucked their grenades the riflemen would storm the trench in the chaos.
I'm a defensive player in just about every game I play. So, digging trenches, hunkering down, and fortifying positions is my jam! I love how these noobs just spammed trenches, hunkered down, and then refused to push forward.
Trenches are awful at defending tho. They are for offensive
@@kagtkalem7115 Bro?

Please tell us how you attack the enemy with a trench.
@@magnesjberg24 You have to push the enemy as much as possible and create an area clear from enemies. Then you dig your first trenchline. Use this trenchline to secure the area. Then dig vertical trench forward and start another trenchline from here. With every layer of trenchline, you get closer to the enemy bunker base. While you are getting closer, build a small bb at the rear and connect your trench network to this bb.
The good ole shovel.
A soldier's reliable tool since people first invented the idea of digging
A collie told us it was fun to fight last stands. So we did the mother of all last stands in Stonecraddle. Turns out it was so much fun it brought back the veterans from the break
I remember we were trying to secure the Jade Cove in the Farranac Coast as the colonials, when all of a sudden a landing took place in the south of the city. I thought it was a group of partisans, but then I saw the conga line of light tanks and parade of wardens in front of the town hall. The greatest experience of dread I felt in foxhole. Whoever organized that landing deserves a medal :D
I've only heard stories of that jade cove landing. Must've been thrilling to be part of that battle!
@@eMantheman14 I wonder if you would be able to cover that event, I'd like to see it from the Warden perspective :D
V clan and KRGG organized it lol
Rogal Dorn: "The best offense is a good defense"

Shovels are great. Shovels are the quintessence of civilization.
With a shovel, you can dig a hole just deep enough to hide yourself. Or if you gather a bunch of people with them, you can dig a fine trench.
If you change your viewpoint just a little, you can even dig a tunnel. You can smash a sturdy enemy trench with mining tactics (not that they get used often).
A shovel is a good friend to any and every type of soldier. And a shovel is the best gear for a close-quarters fight in a trench. Longer than a bayonet, simpler to handle than a rifle, sturdier than any other tool. Not only that, but they are extremely cheap to make, so they’re perfect for mass-producing.
This is it, the ideal piece of equipment. This is the point humanity was meant to reach. Civilization has developed the shovel as its implement.
so this is why it took no time for the Collies to push, yet took days for the wardens to push back
I'll take a motivated Cpl with a shovel and a hammer over 10 Ocdt anytime.
When the players actually use ww1 tactics to do a comeback
I dont mind new player digging trench as long as they dont upgrade it to tier 2 trench
You should have NOT said that
Ooof t2 trenches are horrible
Colonials used to battle build trenches right upto the next point and it was effective. Then they stopped. Wardens did it during 93, ended up coming back.
Trenches are OP.
2:20 the true meaning of tunnel rats
I thought I was having a stroke while watching this. My historian of war professor that specialized in WWI-WWII described the inclusion of a shovel to dig foxholes as being responsible for saving hundreds of thousands of German lives from shrapnel blasts (mostly fragmentation grenades or mines). It took me the first minute to fully understand what was happening and that this is a game, but it's absolutely amazing to see art imitating life!
Glory to the players who pick the shovel and dig trenches, ever if under fire
MAINTAIN TACTICALLY ADVANTAGED POSITIONS AND ADVANCE ONLY WHEN ABSOLUTELY NECESSARY! > Being shoutted at by a brainlet to bonsai charge.
3:21 oh wow I havent played in a while but I'm glad to see Hidde2k is still playing :)
Thats a nice little part of this game, when you see old names from long ago wars and moments that you passed with them.
@@eMantheman14 oh mate some of my best memories of gaming is from playing Foxhole. I remember my best war yet, War 69.
We were falling back into a town that had little supplies. We kept losing ground because we lost the artillery duel at a bridge. The Collies just kept coming. By the time we made a stand at this town we only had 1 Silverhand, with no 40mm ammo, piloted by me and 2 other randoms that volunteered. Odds were so low but lemme tell ya, we held that town. Wave after wave we pushed the Collies out of that town until help arrived in the form of the Italians (ITA Clan). We made organized a counteroffensive with the Italians and took back the bridge that day. Later we found out that another Clan managed to do an Amphibious Landing on the other side of the map and that pulled some forces away from our away, giving us the chance to counterattack. Ahhh GREAT TIMES. I still remember that guy who brought that Silverhand to us, shoutout to "Based Management" for bringing us that Silverhand.
😂😂😂 i don't even play Fox Hole but begin watching it because of a youtube series of war 83? I don't exactly remember, that get me hook in Fox hole videos. By the sound of the comeback story of the warden using Shovel i think i am gonna join warden if i ever start playing i like how funny they are by the sound of it.
Oh hey! 93 was the first war I played in! :D
This video has NOBLE Company's seal of approval.
technically shovels have saved EVERY war if you think about it...
Haha this was our second comeback, i was a Tanker in westgate with sundial and we helped take basically every relic base in there by destroying their defense or lack there of because some of them just had no ai.
This is a bit heavy story from Ukraine war.
Some months after the war started ex Lithuanian Military gave an interview. He went to Ukraine on 24th to train personnel, same day as war started and he was asked if there was anything that stuck out to him from his time there.
And he told this story I'm paraphrasing. I need to add that whole interview was pretty much Ukraine needs more, we must give them more and that there's not enough time to train them properly, unfortunately.
So one thing that stuck out to him was importance of digging a damn trench. He said that when he war started it was impossible to prepare soldiers properly you had to cramp 9months of basic training into 3 weeks at the best. And one of the first groups he trained was wiped out first night and the young officer was pretty much done mentally. The guys stopped for night at the forest but they didn't dug the trenches and artillery got them. He said that since then foxhole, trench digging is the first thing and most important thing that they teach.
Trenches are vital.
If I’m about to build a bunker with multiple MG garrisons I hate trenches in the way. But if you’re literally 50m away from an enemy garrisons that’s when they’re good.
Just LOL!
but seriously why don't wardens build trenches xD?
You mean colonials? There's this well known colonial foxhole streamer thats heavily against trenches and he gets mad when he sees a new player with a shovel. He appears in the video at 1:46
I fucking love earthworks
You fuckers can't stop me from digging in
This is why the devs love wardens
This is extremely high quality. Great job
Trenchs are good if you have enough fresh meat to fill them
Thankfully there are no salty vets on Charlie to prevent us from digging trenches
such a fun war. i joined at the end of 92 so it was my first full war and yeah the start wasn't........great XD
Informational and entertaining. Amazing video!
I attribute our failure to the fact no one used the 5,000,000 flak jackets I made.
I see Larry is still at it, fun.
Trenches have a purpose, but when i see 12 SSgts huddled up in one when there is like 40 meters of open undefended ground, it makes me really wanna kill some low ranks (not toxic i swear)
The new player saved us
hey bro you sound south african, lekker video really high quality content

My fellow Foxhole boomers can yell at me for this but the long trench sapper strat is lowkey goated
The irony of the comment about the new players not giving up, and just doing everything to keep fighting. It's honestly hilarious how many times the new players win wars or mount comebacks in Foxhole.

How quickly we forget the power of trench
Also honorable mention to foxholes
I scouted back lines as a colonial when our offensive territory was the greatest, some of the fortresses I saw I couldn’t even report properlu

I thought it was a comeback because the pop balance was like 2:1 ...... everyone on col just gave up and got sick of pushing. Just wanted war to be over to start the next one
Wardens gave up early game. Got boring rolling over noobs. Collie vets left as the warden comeback happened, warden vets came back on and collies didn't care
How did you zoom your POV in so much??
If you press ctrl and scroll up with the mouse wheel it zooms your camera in.
I’m only a Sgt. in this game, and I’m learning new stuff every day. I played through my whole first war not knowing how to turn the camera. The game is addicting because you can jump in and do something different every time.

Nothing worse than players who tell other players how to play a game that they paid their own money for. If someone wants to dig a trench, let them.
It can be similar to griefing, to be fair. They paid their money for it, but so did the other players.
