I grew up in San Jose in the 80s and have fond memories of the Century theaters. After the movies, we would go to Bob's big boy for burgers and shakes. I miss my childhood ❤
When I saw the words “Titanic” and “San Francisco” I knew you were going to talk about the Jeremiah O'Brien. Great video Stanley! Titanic still is my favorite film. Saw it over 13 times in the theatre when it came out. The only other film that tops that was the original Star Wars back in 1977. BTW have you been to the Brady Bunch home?
I saw Titanic 3 times on its initial run and once in 3D (I think 2012?) yeah it’s still such a great film. No I have not been to the Brady bunch house. I do want to check it out especially with all the remodeling their doing to bring it back to its 60’s sitcom roots. 😁
I saw Titanic in those exact century theaters in San Jose. And I did stand in that huge line. I also saw the first Jurassic Park there. The line wrapped around the building. It was worth it!!! Those domes had the biggest screens I’ve ever saw. It was about the same size of a drive-in.
Stanley Foss I’ve been living 20 min south in Gilroy, and haven’t been down Winchester in a while. That sucks that they demolished the domes. But that property is worth a fortune right next to Santana Row and Westfield shopping center (What I still call Valley Fair) On a side note. I also did the tour on the WWII sub next to that liberty ship. Small world.

The pic for this vid is the Vincent Thomas Bridge and it’s how my city gets over to Long Beach instead of taking the 710 or 110 fwy. It’s on Harbor Blvd, it’s like the rich kinda area we call the port and we have a fire ass fish market restaurant and they have items you can buy in the grocery store. Hi there , it looks very similar but that is actually the Bay Bridge which spans SF and Oakland. I took that picture along the Embarcadero. I read that they did film a boat in the San Pedro harbor for a close up scene of the front of the boat cruising through the water . Thanks for watching!!
I saw Star Wars and Empire as well as Pete's Dragon, Moonraker, Return from Witch Mountain and pretty much any Disney movie that came out in the late 70's at the Century theaters. So sad to see it closed.
Oh cool, you saw a lot of classics there!! I drove past their a couple months ago , and their gone! Completely demolished. So sad . There building a gym their or something in their place .

I tought, the engine room scene was took on the same real scale model of the ship... but it wasnt. So the real scale model was almost empty inside.
Yes, they only built a few scale section of the ship and added CGI to tie it all together from what I’ve seen on some behind the scenes videos .

The flares back then meant different things to different ships, many often confused it with ‘Stay away’
