Both 11 and 14, Cheslin Colbe (11) and Kurtley Aarendse (14) are considered to be the two best wings in world rugby due to their amazing finishing capabilities!
You, like many commentators confuse Kurtly Arendse who usually plays 14/left wing with yellowish/beige head gear (23 as a sub in one shot) and Cheslin Kolbe who plays 11/right wing with black head gear. They're both short players, Cape coloureds and lightening fast. Cheslin is stockier and his side step is pretty much instant from a standing start while Arendse is slick with weaving flat out pace. Both are incredible!! Cheslin is one of the best players in the world right now, if not the best. Despite being a wing he's also fitted into other roles on the team during a match. Full back, scrum half, hooker at a lineout throw in (yes!), place kicker. Blue & Turquoise team was Ireland in their away/alt kit. The yellow/gold jerseys are Australia, we love to see the lose/cry regardless of the context. :)
So in your team of fifteen, you have eight forwards (numbers 1-8) and 7 backs (9-15). Your forwards are the grunt of the team, the big beefy boys. I would recommend watching a video or two about their functions. As for the leaner and faster backs, when the forwards are in a scrum, ruck or maul, the usual backline lines up as follow: - scrumhalf (9) behind the scrum who gathers the ball and usually either passes or kicks - flyhalf (10) is usually the playmaker role, because the 9 can easily be put under pressure due to them being so close to the set piece (scrum). The fly-half has more room and less pressure, so he can pass down the line, kick, run it, or initiate a play. - inside centre (12) - outside centre (13) - left (11) or right (14)wing. Whether you have 11 or 14 there will depend on what side of the field the set play (scrum) is on. - The fullback (15) serves the role as the last line of defense when in case of turnover ball, he watches out for tactical kicks and he is somewhat of a Joker in the deck on attack. For instance, maybe your fly-half pretends to pass sideways to 12, but instead drops it behind him to the charging 15. Typically your wingers (11/14) score the most tries and they are usually (not always) the fastest and most fleet footed players on the field. Then numbers 16-23 are your bench and their numbers are not as rigidly based on position, however it is mandated that you have a spare front row (scrummaging forwards) on the bench. These guys would typically be #16, #17 and #18. Hope this helps!
Well explained - you could also add in that the jersey number doesn't change for the starting 15 - they're ALWAYS those numbers for those positions, but the person wearing the jersey could change (as in Arendse / Kolbe)

I'm not sure you understand how the numbers on rugby jerseys work. Players don't "own" the number. Positions have a number. If you are playing on the left wing you wear #11. The right wing is #14. It is quite common for players to wear different numbers in different games. Players could easily wear 4 or more different numbers during a season.
Springboks are the best rugby team in the world with 4 (four) world cups in their trophy cabinet. Your excitement watching the games is contagious.... (wish I can watch and commentate on a game with you)! Soon you will be a big fan of the Springboks. My advise to you: Learn the players names... they don't own a specific jersey number, (e.g) you have a left winger (number 11) and a right winger (number 14) if they start the match. If they are substituted, the new player will wear a jersey number 23 or whatever! Keep up the good work and keep on supporting the SPRINGBOKS!!!!
Poke around there where you are and I am sure that you will find some local rugby teams in the area in America. I also believe that the Eagles are the national American rugby team. I don't think the Eagles are up to scratch yet because the feeder paths are not in place yet. In SA ( and probably the rest of the rugby world cup countries ) kids start playing rugby sometimes before they are 10 years old and proceed through high school, university and local league clubs, then provincial teams and if they are good enough, they get to Springbok level.
Australians wear a yellows jersey but if two teams have similar colours for example the Irish, the team that is not from there wears their away jerseys which are white for us.
I'm sure this has already been pointed out, but there are 15 starting players, obviously from numbers 1-15. Although these numbers are for specific positions, there may be different players wearing the jerseys on the day, so 11 could be any one of like 4-5 players, depending on who is picked for that match. Additionally, there is a bench of replacements, which numbers another 8 players. 23 players are picked in a matchday squad. These are a combination of players depending on the coaching staff. The Springboks usually chop and change quite a bit so its better (if you're interested) to learn who the PLAYERS are and which positions they could potentially cover, rather than assuming 14 is one guy. Its not. For example, Kwagga Smith could play numbers 6;7;8;11&14. All very different positions. He could also be starting a match one weekend as say, flank (6), but be covering for multiple positions from the bench the next weekend. Awsome commentary from you though.
They don't put the names or surnames on the back of their jerseys as they change the squad and positions a lot for each game....each position has its own number. Springboks are playing today in and agains Argentina 23:00 CAT

I'm a die hard South African fan but you should also watch other countries. The intricacies of rugby are unique to each country. You will love getting to know other country's set plays, motivation, skill levels, etc
14 = Cheslin Kolbe. Absolutely electric player
South Africa ( Springboks) We the best in the world🇿🇦💪☝️
Welcome to the world of Rugby! Love & respect from South Africa, yes the Republic of South Africa 🇿🇦
Broer...South Africa are the back to back World Champs (2019 and 2023). They stand alone with 4 World Cups. They ARE THE NUMBER 1 IN THE WORLD CURRENTLY. South Africas kit is green and gold jerseys with the Sprinbok logo and white shorts. Australia has orange tops...we just won them 2-0 in a test for the Rugby Champs and will probably go on to win Rugby Champs 2024. REACT TO Springbok player THE WORLDS BEST PLAYER CHESLIN KOLBE THE ULTIMATE ATHLETE. That was the BOMB SQUAD...go do research on SAs bomb squad too and the power game and scrums. VIVA...VIVA the G.O.A.Ts 🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉
With the number thing. It does not belong to a person, it belongs to the team. Anyone can take "your number"
The orange team is Australia, Black is New Zealand All Blacks, White is England, and the Champions are Green the mighty Springboks.
Shout-out from Cape Town, South Africa!
Loved your reaction. Do some more. I'll be here.
Love your reaction and commentary. You have it right - RSA is Republic of South Africa. 👌☝️
The chaps in the orange “ish” jerseys are the Aussies 👌🏻
The number on the shirt tells you the position they play. Unlike the NFL, a number isn't assigned to a particular player, so there are several players you are watching wearing 14.
Cheslin Kolbe is "your guy. Considered the best athlete in the world
One of the best….definitely not the best
@@HeeniKeke I think the best
@@annabrisley479 Typical Saffa statement. GOAT, “the best” are all overused. But will enjoy watching the arrogance grow as it will be sweet to watch it deflate rapidly.
@@HeeniKeke yes I also think GOAT is overused and meaningless. And I didn't use it. We don't call ourselves "Saffas", I think YOU are arrogant. Call me a South African and be decent and well mannered. Thank you. There's no such thing as a "typical" South African by the way. This is my individual opinion. Calm down
@@HeeniKeke a bit like watching the ABs and Wallabies deflating rapidly then 😘
Indeed, the Republic of South Africa.
new zealand has great rugby players...but RSA has a Kolbe ! (no. 14)
Subscribed ✌🏽

4 Time world champs Baby! And double World Cup raining Champions!
Four-time champions are being caught doping as well it’s unfortunate that it’s still ongoing and South African rugby
@@SmcdMcd-d2kSour. Grapes. Accusation.
@@jarednel3671 LOL.:. It’s literally available to search online… hahaha like lots of it. Even former springboks have admitted it… stay cheating though. Seems to suit you

Cheslin Kolbe is a points machine.
The Michael Jordan of Rugby according to me is Cheslin Kolbe. Theres is a video called "The Ultimate Athlete | Is Cheslin Kolbe The Best Rugby Player In The World?" Unreal!
South Africa is the only team in the world who has won the world cup 4 times
That dude that was awesome, @3:12 was only 19 years old, playing in his first international match. Against Australia, btw. LuL
Also, rugby is much older than American football.
Yep R.S.A. republic of South Africa, interesting fact as a country, we are older than the mighty U.S.A.
You can do an entire video on Cheslin Kolbe alone
We are 4 times world rugby Champions.
Light blue and white jerseys are Argentina. SA beat the 48/7 last Sat.
Remember one thing. ALL BLACKS AND AUS TEAM is made up by Pacific Islanders. Not like The Springboks only by South African citizens.
Thanks for your channel
In rugby the shirt number is the position number, and not assigned to the player.
So just fyi player 11 and 14 are 2 different players. They have been blessed as the powers Rangers of the boks curt-lee Arendse and Cheslin kolbe. All depends on the day which team they play they both swap between left wing 11 and right wing 14
The orange jerseys is Australia
