    My response to people who say it's bad to go to the ground in a fight is "It's bad to be in a fight in the first place. But if you are, you need to be aware of where it can go." As for the video - Perfect!

    Coach Brian, jiu jitsu bb here. You're seriously the best takedown coach I've found. Wish I'd found you years ago. My formula for success is excellent bjj, good basic takedowns and basic striking.
    My request is for more clinch takedowns.
    All things clinch! Knees, elbows, trips.... everything.

    Coach for the overhand right double leg you are sending your body to the opposite side that’s normal. Therefore if your opponent sprawls you cannot cover the distance to turn the corner so I would reason that it would be better to switch to a single leg if he reads the takedown attempt and sprawls. I’m not sure if I explained that well lol 😂 but love feedback

    I would add that you should punch with intent to make contact, not as a set-up for a takedown. If you get into the habit of throwing lazy punches strictly as a distraction then you're putting yourself in the perfect range to be countered. This could be dangerous for grapplers with marginal striking skills.

After few fights and many failds double attempts I decided to go into the clinch and just push my opponents to the cage (Usman style). Please, I'm begging You. My tutorial for tall fighter and effective in mma takedown for them. I think all lanky gay fighters will be glad to see it and thank U. #teachmegrappling if I tall.

    I'm glad you addressed this issue because 99% of BJJ schools don't teach how to establish the clinch. You can't just blindly walk in and get the clinch. I like just a jab cross combo as I'm coming in as opposed to just covering and coming in. Just covering alone allows the opponent to punch and move to maintain distance. The jab followed by a quick cross makes them cover and they usually plant their feet and that allows you to bridge the gap. And keeping the head upright is important too because it avoids the almost guaranteed guillotine that usually happens when people lead with their head and bend at the waist. Great information as usual.

    • @Merrick
      @Merrick 4 года назад +1

      in the sport of BJJ you pretty much can just walk into the clinch. talking about BJJ in a real fight or an MMA contest is a totally different story. If you actually find yourself in a situation where you have to defend yourself chances are the ground is going to be very hard and unforgiving, and there will be a very real threat of a second attacker, in which case you cannot be tied up with someone on the ground. In a real situation the most important grappling skill to have is being able to stay on/get back to your feet.
      A lot BJJ schools deemphasize getting to the clinch/takedown because that's the rough part, the wrestling is where people get hurt in class, it's hard, most don't want to do it etc etc. But people, martial artists, you got to do it! If nothing more than to be able to know how defend it.

    • @pizzulo81
      @pizzulo81 4 года назад +1

      @@Merrick I am of the thought that whether you are in a BJJ school for sport or not, at the minimum you should know how to stop someone from trying to take your head off by establishing a clinch. The only way to effectively get a clinch is to come in covered. Whether it's covering your head or coming in behind punches, anything is better than coming in uncovered like you do in tournaments or when starting on your feet in class. Most schools don't even start on their feet. Takedowns are secondary in a self defense situation. That's up to you if you want to go to the ground. I'd rather stop it on my feet. Either way the first step is successfully establishing the clinch. I think not getting knocked out is the number one priority in a self defense situation. If someone starts off by grappling then a sport only BJJ student has an advantage over most people. But you can't count on every self defense situation starting out that way. Punching is very common in a real fight and if nothing else you need to know how to take that away from the opponent. That doesn't mean you need to be a great striker or spend a lot of time training it. Fight fire with water not fire. Use Jiujitsu to nullify striking. Just my opinion.

    Nothing beats Krav Maga approach when it comes to street fights. Period. Meaning, why would someone try to work angles or spend energy in regular striking and risking getting caught back when one could just hunt and kick the crouch and end it right there or if getting into grappling, grubbing crouch striking it, eye gauge, throat striking and crashing..etc..
    When not using weapons.

  • @JIUJITSUMAN22
    @JIUJITSUMAN22 3 года назад

    Dude, you should don't shoot for the side of the strong punch and Kick/knee. It's too dangerous. The shoot must be Always with the head slipping for the side of the lead hand. Besides, why you don't try cut angles like a boxer circuling him around and them shotting ? this way you can hit him unbalacend for a few instants. Don't is a good ideia attacking just going in and out, back and forward. Is much better cut angles like a boxer.

    • @TeachMeGrappling
      @TeachMeGrappling  3 года назад +6

      sorry I disagree. Fighting is not so simplistic that you should always shoot to the lead leg side. There are benefits and drawbacks to both. Angles are always good but remember this lesson was designed to teach a student to setup shooting with strikes. When a shot is setup properly, the defense or counter strike is very difficult to manage. 🤙
