England Squad had been a bunch of individuals in the past. I do not remember winning them first game of any major tournament in the past few decades. With him in charge, the squad looks unified and humble.
    - World Cup Semis
    - Euro finals
With a core of young players, which we are not used to seeing with Three Lions. I am baffled on how some people criticize him. Great bloke and equally great job done by him so far.

He is has inherited the strongest generation England has ever produce and he has failed and England have not won anything due to his tactical errors. The problem is the media and some less informed fans have been so starved success, they wrongly credit him for England becoming a better team and not the fact the academies of club teams have become the best in the world and is producing technical and tactically great young English players who can play elite level football in larger numbers than ever before. When has an England manager ever had his 7th choice centre-back playing for AC Milan and 5th choice Striker be one of the leading scorers in Serie A. Or second division English players moving to big clubs like Dortmund and Bayern and staring for these clubs. Where Germany young players are so inferior to English young players that the Germany FA is begging English developed kids to change nationality and play for them like Musiala and Nmecha. This has never happened before and we are wasting another golden generation on another mediocre coach. Southgate lose to Croatia in a World Cup semi-final because he was slow to reach to tactical changes by the Croatia. Lost the semi-final against Holland in the Nations League because he rested all the Spurs and Liverpool players for that game saying they needed a break after the Champions League final, while the Netherlands Liverpool players all played. And against Italy in Euro 2021 went ultra defensive and not reacting again to tactical changes by the italian coach and lost a game England should have won easily with the right tactics. I read Portuguese and was on a Brazilian football site and even the Brazilian fans think England has the strongest team for sheer numbers of good quality players but they all said England's biggest weakness is Southgate. England can do. Could you imagine Klopp or Guardiola against an Italy team that struggles against speed in defence, would play a 5 man defence against them? England would have won that game if Southgate had not been so cautious that is why I would replace him Potter the only good English coach or get Guardiola who is scheduled to leave city in 2023.

@@Delboy0 Gareth is not a top coach for sure. But there's no way in hell that he inherited the strongest squad we've ever produced. i mean for goodness sake we lost to Iceland just before he was hired. he messed up quite seriously in that final but this squad is no where near the teams of the 00's and even the 90's. regarding your point about the centre backs, don't you remember when we had terry, ferdinand, carragher, campbell, ledley king and then jonathan woodgate at real madrid?
the academies are doing well, but the age groups that are excelling are the kids born between '99 - '03. I have faith that when they reach their prime in 2026, gareth will be gone. For now it's good that we at least have a coach willing to give young kids game time but when they are in their prime we will need a better coach. the players in their prime now (kane, sterling, maguire, stones, hendo etc.) are pretty mid tbh, not really a golden generation
regardless, the likes of klopp, guardiola and tuchel do not move into international management anymore. top coaches prefer the day-to-day of club football. people forget that mancini, deschamps etc were struggling to get top jobs before moving into international football. Gareth is not a great manager, but touting guardiola as a replacement is a bit naive tbh. Potter would be a good shout but I still think he'd want a good premier league job whilst his stock is high. i reckon gareth gets two more tournaments then we get rid

You don't need to understand football to get his team selections just an understanding of the history of the FA and access to Wikipedia. The system was set up to make a team for the Manager not the other way round. That is why they are often referred to as "Gareth's boys" and why the FA have been so desperate to hold onto him as they are worried he will leave in 2022 as planned and they have no back up plan yet. And explains that very odd date to finish his contract, I.e. December 2024
I mean, the fact as early as 2012 they had predicted: "I think will do OK in the next 3 tournaments but I have always said 2018/2020 is when I expect we will have the depth of talent we need to be competitive on a regular basis". The only thing that went wrong in the plan he came into the job in 2016 which was 2 years earlier than planned.

Really decent guy, knows how to deal with the media but not yet put the team in place to get England over the line. The last 2 tournaments have opened up for England yet when they have been tested, they have failed. That's the unfortunate reality. You need to beat Croatia to get to a WC Final and can't then you manage to beat Denmark to get to a EC Final. It's fine but this idea that it is somehow amazing is indicative of how easily pleased some people are and how there is no real standards. The penalties debacle against Italy was poor. Under pressure, when they are playing good teams England aren't really any better than they were before and no one can be that confident that in the next world cup when England come up against a good team, they will win! He needs to add first class people to the coaching set up and make changes from the base he has built so far to try and keep evolving & improving the squad and our prospects
England still have some deficiencies at the top level at CB and CM. You can be sure Maguire will play in the next game despite his poor form as an example. It's not all players on form & playing for their clubs each week

1 - International football is not the same as club football and not many can or want to do it
2 - The England job isn't as tempting as they think
3 - The role is very political and it means working closely with the FA. It means that the FA have their own agenda. You only have to look at the politics in the previous appointment to see that (especially the suspicious nature of Sam Allardyce's appointment and very quick departure).
