      Though, I'm surprised that you didn't go through Chisholm or Smiley Court or even Gibb's Village, areas that I wouldn't go through during the daytime,let alone at night

    I know a lot of people make racially insensitive comments on this site about what they think about the people who live in places like this but I've met some of the nicest, kind-hearted people who came from the most poverty stricken, economic deprived communities. Most instances, they just trying to survive and raise their kids the best they know how. Think about it. A middle class kid from an affluent neighborhood in Florida walked into a school and brutally murdered 17 people so don't think only people from the hood do bad things.

      I live in what's considered the hood too and it's interesting you rarely hear or people's homes being robbed. The middle-class neighborhoods though.. One of my cousins lived in a middle-class neighborhood in Fort Worth. She was in her home in broad daylight when the neighbor's son broke into her house. She had a gun and military training, but she has a hard time being alone now.

Regardless of so much negativity this city is giving off from mainly the black community, there are genuinely good hearted still around, as well as some surprisingly beautiful places to visit.

    I live 30 minutes North of Birmingham, and work in Tarrant. It is depressing to see this type of life. Before you start judging, walk a mile in some of these people's shoes. It's hard when everything is closed down, run down, and the leaders don't have the people's best interest at heart. Help those that are in need when you can, shake a strangers hand, tell a stranger good morning, etc. We've got to help each other, it all starts with love.

    This is what happens to cities when they refuse to adapt in the age of Globalization. Montgomery prospered when economic forces were driven by industrialization and demand for regional labor was strong.
    Now, technological advances (i.e., automation) and international labor surplus are putting strains on cities that continue to use the post-WWII economic model. For instance, after the 2nd WW ended Europe's industrial base was destroyed. The Europeans financed rebuilding their infrastructure on U.S. industry; and this continued from 1950 thru mid to late 80s.
    Meanwhile, countries like the U.S. moved away from industrialization and became a knowledge-based innovative economy. In other words, the jobs that are in demand now require using one's brain rather than one's hands - professional jobs that require license or certification; jobs that are heavily serviced based in which one uses reason and judgment; and jobs that require planning and implementing processes and procedures.
    Cities like this have failed their citizens because they did not prepare them for 21-century jobs. And until they do these cities will continue to decay, while waiting for jobs that have long gone and won't come back.

      Razor Lite let me reply to you from a different perspective when you debase your manufacturing and send it all to china India and other low wage countries that work for under a $1.00 and bring the goods back here and sell them for the same price as if it was made in the United States you put many many Americans out of work and thus they do not have the money to pay their bill and up keep yet the pair of pants thats made for .75 cent and sells for $60.00 Levi jeans for instance, were are you going to get the money to pay for such item when you do not have a job. Keep American Jobs in America then we could have the money for the up keep of our homes etc, but this globilization bull shit only benefits the rich and the working class just goes to hell. All just one big lie even Trump talks about making America great but get his products manufactured across the ocean in one of them slave labor countries Nike makes a pair of sneakers for under $1.00 in cost bring them back to U.S. and sell for 800.00 a pair for Mike Jordons so who is winning Jordon and Nike.

      Razor Lite I am a die maker which at one time was higher paid labor. Dies are now made using computers along with lasers & rule processors. They aren't made by men anymore but machines do a better job & hold accuracy to the 1,000 of an inch & they are faster because they don't take breaks. I'm glad I did it in their heyday but those days are gone now. Never even dreamed they could have machines do it. Die making is now a lost art & never coming back. I was stubborn to the very end & feel sorry for the guys that have 15 or 20 years learning that trade only to become unemployed & to young to retire & to old to retrain. Don't worry about it they are even working on replacing Truck drivers. I'm retired & now 73 years old glad I'm not 45 or 50 I would have to go back to school to learn to program computers using cad cam. Although years ago I did go to school & learned what I had to know but never had to work as a programmer. Still made them by hand until about 2016 when I stopped. Lol. Got out before they told me that I was a dinosaur & wasn't needed or wanted. I enjoyed making cutting dies my whole life

    Well, thanks for the travelogue, but I could have got the same thing from Google. Some facts, some stats, comments on research of crimes or something that make these bad neighborhoods would decrease the bore quantity. So, boarded up strip malls; don't know of any cities that don't have some. Some random trash on grounds of the projects, but I've seen much worse projects. These looked clean and in good repair. Most of the houses you randomly drove by were older, but with neat yards and seemingly well maintained. Yes, a few had boarded windows, but they didn't appear to be crack houses. Some were unsightly, with peeling paint and so on, but having your house painted is expensive and if the occupants are elderly or disabled doing it themselves is not an option. One great thing about the older neighborhoods is the size of the lots! What nice big yards. Without some facts and documentation I don't see these as necessarily bad areas.

      John Eagle The places Trump called shithole look worse than this by 100 fold. You don't know what poverty is until you go to a country where the median income is $400.00 not per week or month but per year where you try to feed a family of 4 or 5 or more people one 1dollar per day. Only then will you understand what true poverty is. That's why so many of them try to come to America where minimum wage is a fortune to them & they almost all are willing to work very hard for that fortune (fortune to them) peanuts to us. My uncle that fought in the Philippines during WW2 told me that it was nothing to see babies floating dead in the streams of water because they couldn't afford another kid & life is cheap there

    • @jackboyer1280
      @jackboyer1280 6 лет назад

      Gul Dukat Countries where life is cheap & mothers toss newborns into rivers because it's another mouth to feed & they don't ever get enough to eat as it is. Can't possibly feed one more so they dispose of them the only way they know how. I noticed lots of cars & some places you are rich if you can afford a bicycle where walking is the major transportation for them. This is why so many try for the jackpot getting into America. I am not suggesting in any way that we should welcome them. What I am trying to say is this is what libturd want for America, for us to become just like those places. Yet another reason I can't force myself to vote for a libturd left wing dumbocrap. I don't see this happening to America. And after that P.O.S. Obama showed them what his & libturd vision for America they are so stupid they still vote these tires into office. Sad but true they have to have IQ"s of room temperature

  • @loft4me
    @loft4me 6 лет назад +1

    Charlie, a different kind of low income neighborhood, a different flavor of poverty here, when compared to that seen in your Detroit clips. There, widespread economic downturn has resulted in large swaths of uninhabitable streets. But here, despite the lack of resources to upgrade and remodel, there seems to be enough revenue for fundamental upkeep, and in the case of the house at 12:10, some pretty creative landscaping. Also, a real estate sign at 13:31 is always a good sign, along with the abundance of fenced properties, if not for security, but perhaps as a psychological delineation in an attempt to control what enters and exits the property. This looks like a low income, but stable, neighborhood.

    Nem tudo é glória...
    Muito bom ver o outro lado dos EUA, o que ratifica que a pobreza é um mal que assola todo o globo, inclusive as superpotências econômicas.

      Brandi Renee My family is from New Orleans. A Ghetto is all the same and I've been to Detroit, Chicago, Cleveland, Atlanta, San Antonio, Jackson, Birmingham, Montgomery, California. This shit is nothing to brag about. It's a sickness. We have to do better as a people. No jobs or economic power is coming to the hood as long as we have gangs, drugs and prostitutes. What business in their right mind would build around robbing and killing. (My family lived off Franklin.) My brother used to coach at Holy Cross and St. AUG. My sister in law graduated from St. Marys. When, I was young and dumb, we went to Calliope and Magnolia to visit his friends.
