Skip’s value on this show cannot be understated. Every time something like this happens, I wait for skip to put it all into perspective. His longevity and experience in the industry goes unmatched.
People don’t realize that he was probably the best sports journalist in the country before he transitioned to radio and TV, where he became the godfather of sports debate (for better and for worse)
The year after they won the title in 77', POR was league best record at 50-10 and then Bill went down with injury. They were well on their way to possible repeat NBA champs and yet he still won league MVP. Bill was a walking 18/13/5/3 when healthy. He was the best center not named Wilt, Russel, or Kareem the league had seen to that point. Injuries are a shame. RIP LEGEND ❤
Skip gave a great heartfelt tribute to Bill Walton not just howmuch of a legend he was on the court but also his fun positive personality as a human being. May God bless him. ❤

He really was an all-time great. Prior to his injuries many would definitely say he was a top 3 Center at that time. He showed flashes of it in Boston and they won a championship in large part because of his play. He’s definitely in the top 10-15 all-time center range. I personally think he’s top 10 maybe top 8. Oh and I’m a Lakers fan and I don’t like the Celtics lol. But I’d be lying if I said I didn’t have respect for those Celtics players especially in the 80s
Same here. Born in 80 so I missed his playing career but I loved him calling games with Marv Albert Bob Costas Mike Dunleavy Matt Goukas Ahmad Rashad Hannah Storm etc etc RIP to a legend on the court and the mic. 🙏

Absolutely. I was born in 89, so I didn’t get to watch Bill during his playing days, although from watching old clips, Walton seemed like he was a force to be reckoned with during his UCLA days and his years with the Blazers. But I absolutely loved his commentary. My all time favorite sports broadcasting team is Madden and Summerall. But a very close second is the team of Marv Albert, Bill Walton, and Snapper Jones back during the glory days of the NBA on NBC, when professional basketball was at it’s peak and you couldn’t wait for those NBA triple headers on Sunday afternoon, it filled the void beautifully whenever the NFL season was over with. Now, Marv Albert is the only one left. It’s heartbreaking that with every year that we get older, more and more pieces of our childhood leave this earth.
I remember watching Bill Walton play against Dr.J&the 76ers in the NBA Finals as a kid. I was mad because they couldn't stop Walton and the Blazers lol. My condolences to the Walton family.
This was an incredible sit down with the Trio reminiscing over the Legend Bill Walton, but the story that Skip gave about Bill taking a swing at Broadcasting was amazing. Some may feel a certain type a way about Skip, but so many have vouched for him giving a hand to others and I commend him for it. ☮️RIP Legend🕊
Skip is absolutely right. If it weren't for the injuries, Bill Walton would possibly been the best big man the game has ever seen. He had no weaknesses to his game. Just a joy to watch.
I absolutely enjoyed watching him call games and hearing him was full of life like you say ..truly a legend and American icon bill Walton..may he r.i.p and thank you for the memories uncle Bill
@4:30 Charles Barkley is going to go through the same thing... Younger generation only knows and see Barkley as a "make fun of" type guy and not a NBA legend
Walton was the starting center and star as a sophmore for UCLA. They were undefeated and their average margin of victory was over 30 points a game. Think about that.
Sam Gilbert was not a UCLA bagman, he did assist in recruiting or helping to get one player. He was a wealthy hanger-oner, he would pay for things for high profile athletes in LA which included UCLA basketball players and USC football players, Joseph conveniently left that part out
As a UofA student and pac-12 fan Walton will forever be synonymous with the conference of Champions and will never be truly appreciated for the entertainment he gave me. RIP legend
I remember going to the Miami Heat game and saying it’s not the same without the broadcasters yelling and explaining the game. Not that I don’t like going to the game but good broadcasters make a difference when you’re watching it at home.

R.I.P. Bill Walton. His great line when a big man got the ball down low, “Throw it down big man” Classic and the College and NBA lost a true pioneer on the hardwood, and color commentary broadcaster.
I was security at a Cal basketball game vs USC only about 3 months ago and after the game I was the security that stayed after others clocked out to keep the line organized for Bill Walton's autograph and picture session and didn't know he had cancer but was drinking a lot of water and eyes were red. I joked with him a bit and I'm glad I worked that day.
Anyways,...I personally think of Bill Walton and I think Portland trailblazers instantly . Period. Those 70s finals. He was truly a legend n the making .
