Most, of the tenants in the South Tower either on their own or after being told by their supervisors started to evacuate almost immediately after the first plane crash. Many of them remember the 1993 bombing and weren't sticking around. The problem was that there wasn't an official evacuation ordered and security down in the lobby was getting mixed information from authorities working the disaster across the plaza. So when met with a rush of tenants coming down from the upper floors, most of the security officers told them everything is fine, the problem is isolated in the North Tower, and it's not safe to go out into the plaza. Eventually, people were told to go back up as a way of keeping them out of the way of responders and again, because in the confusion there wasn't an evacuation ordered yet. But it wasn't some, "get back to work!" thing that we think of these days.
This was a missed opportunity to talk about the timeline for the antenna failing. In NYC those of us without cable only had one channel to watch CBS. ABC, NBC, Fox, PBS, etc all got knocked out.

If the towers were switched, also the north tower probably collapses first. So less time for building 7 to evacuate. So possibly some casualties in that building. But too many variables change. My suggestion for next what if scenario. Both planes hit within a minute of each other at maybe 9:15 am, but no changes to impact points.

For a place that was bombed eight years prior, it seems as though there was no clear protocol on how to react in the event of another incident. NOTHING AT ALL was learned.
That was a part of the tragedy. The police and fire departments though heroic in their actions, had no way to coordinate an efficient response. The whole response was a hot mess with individual Battalion Chiefs taking charge and doling out orders to firefighters. With no real clear way to attack the situation, granted, it was the worst highrise inferno ever. The police were waiting on a decision to attempt a helicopter rescue and had no idea that the FDNY had abandoned that idea years ago. Police choppers in the air announced over the radio that the damage to the buildings was visibly worsening and they believed a collapse was imminent. The Police ordered an evacuation over the radio, but of course, the Fire Dept. was on a different frequency and with radios that barely worked in the towers. In some cases, the cops going down the stairs verbally told whatever firemen they ran into that they were evacuating.

You mean staircases vs elevators: there were far more than 3 elevators and escape when it was possible was via a staircase that stayed relatively intact. The north tower being hit second would have made FDNY radio work better for longer; more firefighters may have heard the order to evacuate, possibly. In the south tower, too, Rick Rescorla was hugely impactful in the degree of evacuation that occurred, ie people with the company he was head of security for (and the WTC’s largest tenant by number of employees) had drilled evacuating and knew to disregard that announcement. I think the north tower being struck second could have seen more people staying put on lower floors, but perhaps the 100+ people in Windows on the World and the Cantor Fitzgerald employees would’ve made it out. I know I've seen vid of this guy - it was a heartbreaking watch, because you can see an open window several beams to the side - if he'd started at a different point he could have made it back inside, at a point below the busted stairwells... the camera turns to see something happening on the other tower, and when it turns back, the guy isn't holding on any more... the shock from the other tower knocked him loose.
I remember reading that they knew who he was, because there was only one employee in the tower with the free rock-climbing ability it would have taken to make it that far.

I can't understand how anyone would've stayed in WTC2 after WTC1 was hit. Even if it was some kind of gas explosion - as was first thought - my instinct would be to get the hell out of there.
I believe that due to the fact that the south tower is closer to the NORAD bunker, the U.S millitary would be able to react quicker and potentially stop the second plane from hitting the north tower, as well as stopping the plane headed for the pentagon. I also believe that this early warning warn the pilots of flight 93, and get them prepared for the highjack, stopping it before it took place saving countless lifes.
It is worth mentioning that the south tower isnt to far away from the fire station. They could save the south tower if given the chance, but the north tower took away resources during the attack which ended in the south towers collapse.

A lot things could've happened differently under that scenario. On a positive note the south tower and everyone still in there would've been spared. Unfortunately on the flipside, the remains and debris from the colliding planes would've landed somewhere and probably would've lead to more injuries/casualties on the ground. Also in this scenario the information about the other planes may not have gotten to flight 93 quite as quickly making it more likely that plane would've reached it's target and hit the White House/Capitol Building.
I wonder what emergency features such buildings could have in future, parachutes, nets , zip Wires , even emergeny shutes incorperated into a buildings facade. Would look ugly asthetically but imagine the lives that could be saved ,I used to think these crazy things in the event of fire how could lives be saved.

If anything happens to it above the top five floors the buildings would not collapse because the individual floors could handle the weight of a sudden combined weight of five floors, without buckling. Anything more though (of there is a fire its even more iffy) and it would be a different version of the same collapse as in reality D:

Let's say that both planes hit dead center at floor 107 (judging from the plane that hit square on in the north tower, it took out six total floors), and with some of the material from those floors being ejected out from the buildings, you would probably look at around the total mass of 4 floors above the impact points, including the roof trusses. It is very likely that the fires would have simply burnt out, and only warped the affected steel structure around the impact site. Granted, the top floors of the buildings would have been unstable in the aftermath, but the towers would have likely been still standing. And since the towers were hit at the top in this scenario, the most affected floors and infrastructure could have been rebuilt by safely dismantling them

On the other flights, it's probobly just more deaths, unless somebody decided to go against protocol and fight (it's presumed that the highjackers picked Tuesday so that less people would be their to revolt). it wouldn't be associated with the phone number for emergency services, thus their would be less emphasis on the date. The trend of then referring to other attacks by their date like Jan. 6th or 7/October probobly wouldn't be a thing.

More people would have died; that’s fact. Why? The 11th was (1) the first day of school for many kids so some people were doing drop-offs, etc., and were later getting in. (2) a game (football?) went into overtime so some people slept in and were also late. (3) NYC Primary day so some people voted on their way in and arrived later. None of these would have been true on the 12th. The timing on either day would have been equally bad for FDNY firefighters, as it came at the shift turnover time. Many companies went in “heavy” with up to twice as many members riding to the scene.
The smoke clouds from each tower collapsing individually were bad on their own, the carnage would've been a lot worse had they both went down simultaneously.

There probably wouldn't have been quite as many workers in the buildings on the weekend but there probably would've been more tourists on the observation deck and Windows on the World (depending on what time of day the planes hit in this scenario).

The hijacker wouldn’t give up trying to hit the tower and if the f-15 shot it down it would still crash into the city

Kinda how they got hit. The inner cores are rectangles. North tower core was length wise east to west and the south was north to south.

On the other flights, it's probobly just more deaths, unless somebody decided to go against protocol and fight (it's presumed that the highjackers picked Tuesday so that less people would be their to revolt).
it wouldn't be associated with the phone number for emergency services, thus their would be less emphasis on the date. The trend of then referring to other attacks by their date like Jan. 6th or 7/October probobly wouldn't be a thing.

More people would have died; that’s fact. Why? The 11th was (1) the first day of school for many kids so some people were doing drop-offs, etc., and were later getting in. (2) a game (football?) went into overtime so some people slept in and were also late. (3) NYC Primary day so some people voted on their way in and arrived later. None of these would have been true on the 12th.
The timing on either day would have been equally bad for FDNY firefighters, as it came at the shift turnover time. Many companies went in “heavy” with up to twice as many members riding to the scene.

There probably wouldn't have been quite as many workers in the buildings on the weekend but there probably would've been more tourists on the observation deck and Windows on the World (depending on what time of day the planes hit in this scenario).

And the guy that scaled down 6-8 floors was real, but because people are conditioned by Hollywood movies they subconsciously expected him to break glass and be happy and survive like always in hundreds of movies.
It's also why you're generation is like a Hollywood movie with social media saying they survived Narcissistic abused, fixed everything, and now their kids are also perfect and they ended the cycle and now everything is perfect and it's fixed.
