I thought they made the bass-line with a TB303

They did. Since the 303 has a ladder filter and no keyboard tracking on the filter, it had a growly sound when not modulated by envelopes. A ladder filter loses bass though, so I am going to assume they used post eq to bring back the bass with a low shelf filter.
