Everytime I watch this, I marvel at how seamlessly Kevin transitions the beat thru every song. Especially when he sings and immediately goes back to beatboxing

This is one of the many things that endears PTX to their fans... the laid-back, one-take masterpieces that really show off their timing, pitch and cohesion as a group. Sometimes less is more. Great reaction! As you say, there's so much going on with each member holding a key part of the performance, it's tough to know where to look. I love that you go back to savour those golden moments again...
Isn't it wonderful that the group has not one but two singers who can do justice to the King of Pop's upper range? The guy in denim is Mitch, the tall blond baritone is Scott, and yes, the young woman is Kirstin. Loved your reaction - you nailed the fact that yes, this is a single take. You can see them perform this live in the recording of their portion of the Popspring 2016 concert that someone already mentioned. They did a program of three originals and this one - Evolution of MJ was the third number. This is also a good way to see what they're like live. As you might expect from a group that basically "grew up" on RUclips, there is a huge amount of material in addition to studio music videos - mini-documentaries of them on tour, concert clips, documentaries showing how some of their more amazing videos (like Bohemian Rhapsody) were made, interviews, and more. Enjoy!

Remember "Mitch with the pitch" who has the high voice. Scott (the tall blonde) always puts 110% into ALL his performances. He has an amazing work ethic and great energy as you mentioned. That's right...all in one take. This is your channel. You express your thoughts no matter what they are. This non-troll Pentaholic will respect your opinion. Hopefully others will, too.

Yes, it's a medley, but it's in order, early work through to later work. Following his evolution.
Mitch Grassi is the lovable little guy with the high voice. Sometimes he's on the same octave as Kirstin and you can't tell them apart.
You want to see one-take no fuckups on something really complicated watch them do "Gold". It's outstanding. Precise timing, on cue, fast paced, one take, just sitting there on the couch like it's nothing.
This was years ago they have only gotten better their 90’s dance medley is fire.
Edit: Obviously they have lost and gained a new member in that time and Avi was amazing but do not discredit Matt he had huge shoes to fill and is doing incredible.
My daughter and I have seen them twice, once in Atlanta, and once in Nashville, and I promise you...What you see and hear on their videos, is exactly what you hear in person! That being said...Bohemian Rhapsody and Sound of Silence live, I put up there with the greatest moments...OF...MY...FUCKING...LIFE! And I got to experience that with my babygirl! Doesn't get any better than that
People call the reaction to Mitch's high notes being Mitch Slapped and I found that the easiest way to remember his name at first. They also put his name in place of b*** in songs where applicable 😆 Convenient!
If you were going to confuse any two, though, Mitch and Scott are the ones to do it with... they were virtually living in each other's pockets for years and years, until they went and got themselves serious boyfriends. You'll have to check out their old side-project, Superfruit, sometime. It's both a lot like PTX and utterly different when they do music just the two of them. Of course, *all* the group's side-projects are great. We're lucky the group is all about everyone exploring their own things as long as PTX comes first.
Kevin is their resident genius. He beat-boxes, plays cello, plays keyboards, produces music, and sings. He has a pre-med degree from Yale. He is handy to have at an authentic Chinese restaurant because he speaks fluent Mandarin Chinese. As Bill Burr would say, "I am on my third attempt of Rosetta Stone Spanish!" He is also a devoutly religious man with high moral standards. The world could use many, many more men like Kevin. The same goes for all of these fine, young people.

Mitch is so good with his high notes,he has said he's tired of doing high and his lower register is just as good,enjoy ptx.
I always thought when he went too high he got a bit skwacky. (Sounds just a bit like Sponge Bob.) I really like his lower registers. Smooth as butter in "Amazing Grace" and hauntingly ethereal in his solo "Your Power".
yes - one take (likely out of many attempts) Their evolution videos, and Kiiara's "Gold" among others, are done this way. Their way of prepping for live performances
In 2016 the studio they record these at said that they couldn't remember an evolution recording ever taking more than 4 takes and 2 were usually them just wanting to try something differently. They said PTX just made sure they had it completely nailed down by the time they showed up.

The fun thing is they can do this live just like all of the songs they release. You know they are good when they can do a song like Daft Punk live but the amount to remember for one of the Evolution songs is insane.

I'm sure many have mentioned in the comments that Scott, Mitch, and Kirstin went to high school together, which never stops astonishing me. But consider the odds of three such extraordinarily-gifted vocalists in one school. I mean they are world-class talents.

Came across a different PTX reaction video of yours and then had to rewatch this one a couple times, no one has a better reaction to this evolution than you do, I did not grow up listening to the Jackson 5 or MJ but the music crosses all genres and even a country music fan can enjoy this

Evolution videos are always one take. Do a double feature of AHA! Do their official video with the great sound then do their live version at the Vista. On cell phone and avi blew a speaker at very beginning Kevin is off stage at beginning and he does come back but gets zero camera time. But it's an awesome experience!

You mentioned that there was so much going on and you didn't know who to pay attention to. I have a theory as to why their videos have millions and millions of views. And I agree with you about not choosing a favorite a capella group… although all of us Pentaholics and Homefries(think that’s what they called) are respectful and nice- it’ll just start some debates and they’ll never end. It’s difficult as well bc they’re all a capella but different musical genres- pop vs country. We all know who your favorite is anyways- good job playin coy 😂
