We absolutely cannot ignore just how good Harbinger and Sovereign were as villains. Just knowing about them is more intimidating than most villains physical presence these days.
They were set up as an intangible, unbeatable force. So, yeah. Really made the fall of Earth and Palaven so early on hit so much harder. After all they were the two most well defended systems in the galaxy. Even Thessia wasn't as protected. And yes humans were catching up to the turians in military. After Shepard warned about the reapers the Alliance secretly disregarded the council's laws restricting military ship production. Alliance, Slarian STG, Clan Urdnot. There were people who heeded Shepard's warning.
Nikita chases the eagle I know they are attempting to make a movie series like the mcu but with mass effect and all I hope is that they please do this series justice if any game can become a great movie it's mass effect

I always thought it felt the sweet release of death, being twisted and shaped into becoming less than a slave, a mere vessel for something that could probably translate as Demonic possession. It was finally allowed to rest after being forced to committing unspeakable atrocities for god knows how long. If it at all had any notion of honor in the way that the protheans did, uplifting, helping and recruiting alien species and nations into their empire, it would have been tormented by the fact that its sole purpose was to commit genocide, slaughtering and melting untold numbers of individuals in the attempt at creating more of their overlords, the original foe that decimated the race from which the collectors was molded. I dare say that the collector General felt joy over finally being allowed to die.

No other game I ever played made me care so much for my companions, and gave me such a suggestive feeling of goal and purpose, like I could just forget it's all just a game, and believe that I am the only one standing between an entire galaxy of beings and and army of unfathomable cosmic horrors.
i couldn't see how that would work in terms of gameplay. harbinger is massive and it took a whole fleet just to take down a destroyer and they are the weakest of the reapers,and harbinger is the largest and most powerful.

Was a shame mass effect 3 didn't end with a colossal fight against harbinger would have concluded it better than the actual ending however we shall see what comes when the 4th game releases
Sovereign had the better voice and lines (to a degree), but I do prefer Harbinger. His design is so cool. I love how he has spider-like eyes and how he is the biggest and most powerful of all reapers.

Played through ME2 the other day and it made me realize how much I love that game especially the suicide mission part. Also, this song slaps on its own but with the harbinger speech dubbed over it makes it godly and the only it could be made better is adding the assuming direct control where the first line is.
Sad how the entire franchise had the buildup of '' wow, harbinger is the greatest reaper, wow, harbinger is the largest, oldest and strongest reaper'' yet we have no boss fight and no actual interaction with him.
When you play a materialist in Stellaris and go down the technological ascension tree and go full robot at the end and conquer all others to turn them into machines too. Harbinger's line we are your genetic destiny comes to mind.

Harbinger is all in one, Blofeld, Lord Voldemort and Davros and the Daleks, all three respective arch-nemeses of James Bond, Harry Potter and the Doctor all at once, you can't really always win or always defeat them, them either, they always will return and come back for revenge and for round two, eventually at a later time, like the Doctor's other ultimate foe: The Master, as well as the ThunderCats' ultimate foe himself: Mumm-Ra, the Ever-Living and in Skyrim, like Alduin the World-Eater too. Out of all Shepard's greatest challenges and foes, he, Harbinger will in my personal opinion will always be the greatest and ultimately most feared of all, because some things he says are quite true, Reapers will always survive and win in time and gain the last laugh, because no matter what happens in M.E.3 post-war, despite any outcomes, their defeat and Shepard's choices, they will still win in the end, regarding their design and purpose, proving that in the end, through it all, so does Harbinger, so in the end, he, Alduin and Mumm-Ra and him share a single thing in common: They're not meant to be defeated or destroyed through that purpose and then some.
You want to know what would have been better than ME-3's Leviathan Origin? If Reapers actually were the final evolution of life, that as a species advances it _inevitably_ joins itself into a Cybernetic God Mind, and the one's that made it there without dying off beforehand decided to get together and "uplift" other species before they go extinct through natural causes.
