Well, of course it is! Every programmer throws their notebook on birds he sees with the binoculars! You're clearly not a programmer and don't know that!
@Ahmed I think you'd use many more bandaids than a turnicate. And most people don't know how to use them properly. It would make sense if you had a ccw or any medical certifications.

If you're a linux guy that happens to develop software, some of the items make sense, but most of his backpack are pentester/whitehat gizmos. Or Database/Networking stuff.
My advice, use a raspberry pi 4, and buy the "Argon One 2" case, has adapter for full size HDMI ports, is very efficient heat dissipation with auto a speed fan, is good looking with great steal finish! With this you can have your backup rasp 4 with 8 GB RAM. My best purchase on a Raspberry Pi case
The title of the video is misleading. It’s not about tools every programmer need, it’s about what he carries in his fishing adventures. Missed by a hundred miles.
I’d imagine in Sweden a reflective emergency blanket might be important in case you get caught in the cold! You can last many days without food (and a few without water), but only a few hours in freezing temperatures. I have a blanket that only takes up the space of a deck of playing cards when folded-up in the box.
What particular interested me and a lot of people usually overlook is having a sorted RaspberryPi, a practical first AY’s kit(tourniquet, bandage, aspirin, spirit) & Vaseline on you, as the weather gets dry & cracky very easily. Is this the bag you go out of the house with daily when going to work or to a coworking space, or is this reserved for your much longer trips outside your state or home base?
This is more like a "tools every consultant needs" video (because your work environment changes quite a lot). I have almost an identical setup at the office, so I don't carry anything other than my laptop, my more durable (less fragile) headset, and a better mouse.
Ok, after the fishing hooks I knew he was just being ironic. Aside from that, this edc stuff is getting out of hand. I'm a programmer and my bag has MY COMPUTER.
I'm a systems engineer and developer, and for my line of work, airpods are useless. Actually, they are useless for anyone who has a busy workflow. They have horrible battery life, bad call quality, and you have to take them in and out of your ears and pockets all day and can get lost easily. I switched to using wireless neckband earbuds with retractable wires. That way my earbuds are always with me, ready for a call at any time with no fumbling in my pockets and the battery easily lasts all day. Also, they can usually fit under the collar of any collared shirt. I only use my airpods for tanning at the beach.
The survivalist's programmer's backpack. Great for if you want to start a fire in the office, or if your desert island doesn't come with Ubuntu preinstalled.
@hallden You should get some molle pouches to replace your organizer, that will give you the chance of mounting them outside you backpack giving you more space if needed.
3:25 "sometimes you go places and sleep where you didn't intend to" You mean you went to a bar and could not find your way home. Also: allthough it sounds stupid to carry fishing lures in your programmer's backpack; the number-one reason why programmers get burnouts is that they take their jobs way too seriously, thinking that working 12 hours a day is "L33T". In reality, it just means you'll waste the best years of your life pretending to be a good programmer while in reality you're onlt working at 50% capacity after the first 6 hours and the rest is just you making more bugs and setting yourself up to fail. Having stuffin your backpack to allow you to do some instant relaxation is KEY and something like binoculars enable you to just go outside for 15-20 minutes and do something completely different. Oh, and for the bosses who say that you should get back to work and work harder because deadlines: bosses who impose tight deadlines and have to remind workers of thos deadlines are incompetent bosses. The saying "work hard-play hard" is true; if you do not let your workers play enough, they will not work hard, not just because they hate you, but also because they are exhausted.
I couldn't look until the end of the video, but i presume a in that backpack should be also a hammer and a saw, the most important tools for programmers when they patch something. Btw, the binoculars are awesome for static analysis. Hey, how about a 32 inch external monitor in that backpack??
storm lighter gas dont work well in low temperatures. put your storm lighter in the freezer and see if it works after, to know if it can be trusted when you really need it in the winter
In 5:02 you mention you use your notebook for fishing patterns. As a tech guy how come you haven't just noted down what fish you caught, and then use a script which will get the moon phase, weather, temp at that time?
Victorinox Cybertool has a set of bits with it. Can't carry the 30 or so bits needed to get inside every peripheral but enough for 90% of tasks. I used a Victorinix Champ and usually managed to find something that worked at a pinch.

This video actually inspired me to go get a first aid kit to carry around with me. Doesn't take much space and it's great to have in an emergency.
Love the fact that you got binoculars, you use for anything other than birdwatching?
A real programmer just needs one EDC: his/her brain. And as this is onboard mostly you don't have to waste 15 mins of yr time. Thank me later

@hallden You should get some molle pouches to replace your organizer, that will give you the chance of mounting them outside you backpack giving you more space if needed.
Guys... If programming was an easy job, Kalle would not be talking about pills all the time... 🤣

3:25 "sometimes you go places and sleep where you didn't intend to"
You mean you went to a bar and could not find your way home.
Bro, i'm not even a programmer and I love watching your videos !
Waited for this for a long time

storm lighter gas dont work well in low temperatures. put your storm lighter in the freezer and see if it works after, to know if it can be trusted when you really need it in the winter

In 5:02 you mention you use your notebook for fishing patterns. As a tech guy how come you haven't just noted down what fish you caught, and then use a script which will get the moon phase, weather, temp at that time?
Damn. The shakinh plant on the desk had me distracted the whole time😂 still a great video!

I wish my life was as organized as that backpack.
Are there any multitools with interchangeable bits that you recommend?
Gerber Center Drive multitool comes with a bit set.
Victorinox Cybertool has a set of bits with it. Can't carry the 30 or so bits needed to get inside every peripheral but enough for 90% of tasks. I used a Victorinix Champ and usually managed to find something that worked at a pinch.
for what possible reasons should you, as a programmer, have a multitool on you at all times, especially the bulky letterman
that shiny USB-C docking station without ANY scratches or signs of use is your most used item in the entire bag? i doubt it
