@@CSS-Tails_Forever It's because Tim Burton got Dahl's family's permission before he did anything and made any changes, if any (the addition of the plot between Wonka and his father is an approved addition). The only king in the end was Roald Dahl. Putting fear into any filmmaker that he'd show up picketing the movie so that when he died, people were still afraid to touch his movies and were too afraid unless they were literally quoting the book. Dahl is king of petty from the grave.
@@roguejester4986 It's more the fact that, you know, everyone knows that they are not dead. It's just a funnier and exaggerated way of writing it ahah
I love this zesty, awkward and creepy Wonka by Depp. Willy Wonka is meant to be a creepy character throughout the tour because he hasn't interacted with other humans for a very long time, and Johnny Depp perfected that (although the tunnel in the original movie was quite the creepy performance by Gene Wilder). His facial expressions are great too. And Wonka's that pale compared to his younger self because he hasn't seen the Sun in a long time too, a detail I'm glad they added. Some fun facts about the Chocolate Room, production designer Alex McDowell insisted on having the river look edible. Burton wanted the river to have a real chocolatey feel and not just brown water, so they came up with a faux chocolate concoction, taking months to create a non-toxic edible substance with the right consistency. The final mixture was a mix of water and a thickening agent known as Natrosol, with food dye used to achieve the brown coloring, and a production plant was even built on the Pinewood studio site in the UK to manufacture 1.25 million liters of it! Wonka's boat took 20 weeks to build and incorporated 54 animatronic Oompa-Loompas, along with its own internal rowing mechanism! And I love the references to other movies in this. When Wonka passes by the pink sheep in the glass elevator, the reason he says "I don't want to talk about it" is because that is a reference to Ed Wood, another film by Tim Burton that Johnny Depp starred in. And Depp's character in Ed Wood had a fondness for pink angora sweaters. The Smilex toothpaste is another reference to a Tim Burton movie as Smylex was the codename for Joker's poison in the 1989 Batman movie. The soundtrack remains a masterpiece. I mean the decision to make each song a tribute to a different era of music was perfect, that was actually a suggestion from Tim. Elfman recounted, "my original approach was to find a style of music and apply that to all the songs. Tim was like, 'No, no, no, no, no... we're going to completely mix it up!' I said, "Great, let's go". "Violet Beauregarde" is 1970s funk, "Veruca Salt" is 1960s bubblegum and psychedelic pop, and "Mike Teavee" is a tribute to late-1970s hard rock, particularly Queen, and early 1980s hair bands. Really love the mashup they did for Mike Teavee's song, and showing the many things you could watch on TV, but just because you watch TV doesn't mean you know everything, and that TV can be wrong. Also, who wouldn't want to sing about how great your master is while being burned? Elfman's (and Daul for the lyrics) a genius, big respect for him, especially since he had to compose the music for the movie simultaneously with The Corpse Bride

I've always loved this movie, heck, I've dressed up as Depp's Wonka two years in a row for Halloween when I was a kid! With a cane full of candy and everything! I know other people don't like this movie, but I've always found it to be more faithful to the book, like the Prince Pondicherry moment is from the book, Charlie's father is alive just like in the book, Veruca met her demise after her desire for a squirrel in the book just like in this movie, and the biggest thing from the book that the original Gene Wilder version didn't do is use the lyrics for the Oompa Loompa songs from the book. While Danny Elfman worked on the soundtrack, Daul is credited with the lyrics as all four songs utilize lyrics direct from the book. The colors in the beginning of the movie were muted on purpose so there'd be a rush of color when they reach the Chocolate Room, a callback to the change in color in the Wizard of Oz! Other facts about the movie, Nestle provided 1,850 real chocolate bars for the movie, and an addition 100 plastic ones in Wonka wrappers. The town where the movie takes place was actually a model built to 1/24 real scale, and it took over six months to construct. 60 marionettes were made for the Wonka introduction song, with 30 of them flame resistant but the other 30 were made of wax gelatin so they could melt. They spent so much time shooting that scene that the song was stuck in everyone's heads, and they couldn't wait to burn it! Wonka's remark about Veruca's name is true, when spelt with two r's, a verruca is another name for a planter's wart. The glass elevator is real, it didn't travel around, but they built it, and it scared Depp to be inside of it because it was suspended 50 feet in the air. As for the Oompa Loompas, the actor's name is Deep Roy. Roy had extensive training for the role in dance, yoga, and some minor instrument playing. Tim asked him to play five Oompa Loompas, but five quickly became 165. He said how for example there were 21 of them in a scene and as he acted out each one, they'd bring in professional dancers because he of course couldn't do all 21 at the same time. Deep Roy's dedication in stepping into all 165 roles prompted Burton to call him the "hardest-working man in show biz". The Augustus Gloop song is a Bollywood spectacle because that was Deep's suggestion! And for the vocals, that is Elfman's voice with pitch changes and modulations! And for the squirrels, a good number of them were real! In total, there were 40 real squirrels, which were professionally trained by Animal trainer Michael Alexander and his team. They spent a total of 19 weeks training these squirrels for this one scene. The squirrels were trained to sit on stools while they opened shells and dropped them onto a conveyor belt. Originally they wanted to train 100 squirrels, however due to the fact that squirrels can be difficult to handle and unpredictable, they trained 40 and the rest was animated in afterwards.
