  • ʻAuhea ʻoukou e nā mamo o Hāloa, ʻo Lāiana Kanoa-Wong kēia me
ka huaʻōlelo o ka lā. Our Hawaiian word of the day is "ʻōiwi" e ʻōlelo pū
kākou: "ʻōiwi." Nani. The word ʻōiwi is defined as native or a native son of
this land. Used in a sentence "He ʻōiwi ke keiki o kēia ʻāina" which is
translated as "The child is a native son of this land". The root of the word
ʻōiwi is ʻiwi, ʻiwi is the Hawaiian word for the bones. This poetic reference
ʻōiwi being the bones of these lands, remind us of our relationship to our
homeland and the natural return of our ʻiwi to this ʻāina. E ola ma ka ʻōlelo
    Hawaiʻi, aloha!
