I just bought this game, its good but not the most intuitive. I left it on speed 3 and came back after 3 hours just with algae and sponge, nothing had evolved. Seems like you need to actually catch the evolved plant and make cuttings. Why do the evolved plants not proliferate by themselves?

Late reply: There is an option to inherit mutations, but otherwise, yeah, you need to snag the change.
