Hey Guys! Today's video is on planner mistakes that are killing your productivity. These are things that most newbie (and some veteran) planners do that stop them from getting the most from their planners. Let me know, have you done any of these mistakes?
"the more you can use your planner as your guide, as your tool, the less you have to rely on your memory and the more relaxed you will become" this quote just took me out - I'm writing it on a sticky note and adding it to the inside of my bullet journal cover.
My planner is ugly and messy but it works! I gave up on stickers ages ago. They do nothing. I cross out, I white out. I do all the 'ugly' things, but I get stuff done and I remember things. I do believe everyone should have a ceative, beautiful outlet. But my planner is certainly not mine!
When i first discovered the planner community, I was shocked with how much goes into decorating a planner. I'm an artistic person but for me, my planner is a tool not an art project. Mad respect for those people who create beautiful layouts, but I'm functional girl. the stickers and embellishments are cute but visually overstimulating as well.
GREAT tips! Love them! 1 mistake I struggled with so much is the Set it and Forget it. Meaning I would put my planner away where it’s not visible and forget I had one. I bought a book stand to have my planner on at my desk. It’s always open to the current week and it’s working for me just great!
Judging whether a planner is working based on what you’re “supposed” to do. This can be the comparison trap, or just getting something stuck in your head about how a planner works, and thinking that if you’re not doing that exactly, than it’s wrong. An example of this is the bullet journalers who see the fancy artistic spreads, and think that’s how it has to be, and if they’re not doing the artsy things it’s wrong. Or if it’s not exactly the way Ryder Carroll shows it, it’s wrong. A personal example is I need to be able to long form journal. If I can’t, I start getting grumpy and forgetful, and unhappy. But if I don’t plan, I don’t get things done, or track my progress. And I can’t have a completely separate book for each thing. I will crack open one book regularly each day. No more than that. So I had to figure out how to make both long form journaling and daily pages work together, so that I could skim back over my pages and keep track of the most important things.
It’s #2 for me. I have more notebooks than I can count. I sometimes write things down on whatever’s closest but I don’t always remember when it’s time to find what I wrote down.
Buffer time and dedicated “me” time has been a learning curve. I never knew how long something could take till I had a baby. Now I give myself an extra half hour for almost everything because it’s the only way to make sure I get to things on time. And “me” time is a big goal for me this coming year. I found that I was getting overwhelmed and taking time meant for other things to relax and then feeling guilty that I wasn’t getting things done as I planned. I’m now trying to schedule dedicated “me” time so I can go on Reddit or watch RUclips without feeling guilty or burning out.
Going back to jot what actually happened is a brilliant move. You get to see where your time is actually going compared to what you were planning. Thank you!
I once planned out a week that had no breaks at all, and I lasted only until 2pm of the first day. I conked out, exhausted, and binge-watched RUclips videos for the next two days. LOL. You look gorgeous, BTW.
I've been a planner person in one form or another for over thirty years and I'm always adjusting my system and my planner routine. I usually change it up every few months or so.
Oh my goodness!! Where have you been all my life!!! You are so dead one with mistakes and failure that I have. We all don't PLAN TO FAIL..WE FAIL TO PLAN. In this case, PLAN the Right Way. Thank you again!!!
My mistake is my planner is messy with too much information in it (I have 4 categories in one Happy Planner)! BUT, It still really help me organize my life and creates a feeling of balance within. It has helped me better understand my outlook balance as well. For Christmas, I have wished for one more planner ;)
🤣🤣🤣 time for decorating a planner is more important than the content ... I saw so many planner video and other just decorating not writing properly... you are right... planner should be full of our ideas and random thought
I found this very helpful. I’ve found a lot of productive processes.... but I’ve been stuck some places fir a minute now...I love the permission to evaluate my system and change it. But Red pins are scary for me! Lol.
This was very helpful. For some reason I think just having a planner will keep me organized. I know I won’t haul around a book or iPad, but I always have my phone. I downloaded Goodnotes 5 and a the lovely Abundant Life Digital Planner 4.0 Leather from Amor de paper at Etsy. It is tiny, but I am starting to fill it out. I took a time management class once. The instructor said that the first thing you put room in your calendar for, is your priorities. Well, I am working on my relationship with God. A long distance move. Wrapping up my old job and looking for a new one, or business of my own. Plus caring for my Mom, her rentals, etc. I don’t have the memory I once did. If I can get this to work for me, I have a friend who it might work for.
Such great tips! This will be my 3rd year actively using a planner, but my second year using happy planner / first year using your budget planner. I’m excited to see how it goes this year. It will be my first time frankenplanning.
I like to write in pencil until I'm ready to use a pen. That way I can edit my pages until I'm settled on a plan for that day. That keeps me from feeling like I'm 'ruining' my planner, lol. I also use printable black and white templates, everything is in a 3 ring binder, and I'm working on getting some cute stickers for when I'm feeling creative. :) I'm thinking of putting some notebook pages in the front so that when I have appointments that I need to write down, they will be right there in front of me when I open my planner. Then I can (finally) remember to put them in my schedule...
Great vid. My planner mistake is that I've bought too much stuff. I spend way too much time fiddling organising my new hp items than actually using them. I am trying everyday to use my planner for wellness, health as its more important in winter. But I procrastinate sometimes due to finding things to put in it.
Try this with you planner if you are new to using a planner. Keep your planner open on your desk or table where you work ar because I do this and it help me to look at my planner thought out the day then. You will not forget to look at your planner in the dat at all. The other thing you can do so you look at your planner is to put a big fun paper clip or use a bookmark that is made for your planner with the words Today or This Week on it. those things will draw your eye over to planner more if you that. Give it a try.
Yes! LOVE the hair! Man, you have my number with a couple of these things. I LOVE my HP but it does feel like a have to do. Until I sit down with it. Then it feels good to get it all out. For printing out inserts, what weight of paper would you recommend?
You have the most thorough videos! Lour style and presentation skills. And I LOVE the idea of scheduling down time, I never take lunch or a break. Definitely going to try that!! Thanks for what you do!!
I had to pause at 1 bc I do this all the time. Specifically in my daily planner. And I'm forgetful. So, if I don't write it down, it's pretty much like it didn't happen.
I think setting time to plan for the day, week and month are the biggest things I don't do. Then, I need to leave out my planner by my side ALL THE TIME. I will try again this week to get things done.
At 63 my planner is more of a memory aide then a productivity tool. I use it to help track my health and wellness, remind me that things need to be done and if I have appointments those too. Once something is on my to do list, it must be moved to a day and then done on that day. If I cant do it that day I move it to the next and keep doing that until it gets done. Usually I get so tired of moving it, I just do it so I dont have to move it. LOL
Trying to make your planner look like the ones you see on youtube instead of being 'you'. Thinking you have to spend lots of money on planner, multiple planners, stickers and stuff but you don't because it's ok to buy a $10 planner and notepad at walmart or dollar store .... looking for perfection that doesn't exist.... forgetting that it's ok to change planner styles/systems as your life and situations change...
Good morning I really enjoy today too on the planner mistake. I just started following you about two months and I really enjoy each and every class thank you so very much
I am in process of changing to a digital planner. My paper planner goes to June 2021 and will continue to be used for homeschool purposes. The paper planner is too heavy in my bag to carry it around but I find that I don't use it if its not always with me... So a digital planner seems like the best choice. Plus the paper planner is limited for me (its spiral bound) and I am stuck with what the company decided to put in it. Do you have any suggestions to help me as I transition into the digital planner? I found one that has EVERYTHING I need it to have except for school lesson plans... I need to add those pages weekly. I am definitely getting rid of the extra notebooks that always get lost or forgotten! I use a planner for everything.... personal use, homeschool, notes, projects, business, social media, home management, budgets, and more. Two things I think I'll miss is sticky notes and my colorful pens and highlighters. I use digital versions in my digital planner but it doesn't quite feel the same. How can I combine my love for paper planners with the digital one?? Without feeling like I'm 1. Using too much paper and 2. Carrying too much/keeping track of too many things?
@LifestylewithKeli Great idea... The thing I really want is the app must be just like journal notebook...CUTEEE... so that we will love using it... and It must also have all the features such as sticky notes, weekly planner, daily and monthly planner as well.... If these features will included in that app....So plz let me know by replying me on it.... 🤗🤗
Hello! I enjoy watching your videos :-) But now I just had to come and comment on this one. You are SO RIGHT with this list of mistakes!!! I am going to take on board your tips and I’m sure my planning will start to release stress and actually help with my life! Thank you so much!
Im so thankful for this series 🙌🏾🙌🏾🙌🏾. You are helping me so much. I appreciate you sharing with us. I definitely am one to over task myself with no down time and im always moving stuff to the next day. I’m determined to get it down though lol
Do you have kids? I love planning, but I’m trying to teach my young teen to plan and she’s not a fan. I’m looking for tips on teaching a tween / teen to find their planning style.
Hey! I do. Mine are 8 and 6. My 8 year old loves planning and has her own planner. My 6 year old is not a fan. You may need to let her try digital planning as well (apps like notion) , paper planning may not work for her but with time and experience she will find what does. :)

I love this and will try it!!
Lol, I was just thinking about Tuesday morning for this exact reason....and how I need to reorganize me desk again to make everything fit better.

GIRL!!!! You look gorgeous Chile! yaaassssssss!!!!!
Wow!! You are so sweet!! Thank you!!
3 mistakes in and I'm already nodding my head going "yep, that's me"!
🤣🤣 I’ve done them all! 🤣
Oh no.... For the first time, I score 100%. Definitely guilty of Shiny Objects Syndrome. 🙈
It’s #2 for me. I have more notebooks than I can count. I sometimes write things down on whatever’s closest but I don’t always remember when it’s time to find what I wrote down.

This is so true!!
The biggest lie I tell myself is "I'll remember that"
TRUTH! 😄
So true!!!! I have definitely done that....
Going back to jot what actually happened is a brilliant move. You get to see where your time is actually going compared to what you were planning. Thank you!
Awesome Information, sometimes am not consistent checking my planner throughout the day.
I once planned out a week that had no breaks at all, and I lasted only until 2pm of the first day. I conked out, exhausted, and binge-watched RUclips videos for the next two days. LOL.
You look gorgeous, BTW.
This is my favorite (and most needed) video so far. :)
I've been a planner person in one form or another for over thirty years and I'm always adjusting my system and my planner routine. I usually change it up every few months or so.
These were good. You had me at #2, then #3, then #4 and I have been planning for years but I still fall into these traps.
I'm so guilty of #2! Thanks for the call out. 😂
I just love your channel! You give so many FUNCTIONAL tips so we can get as much as possible out of our planners. Thank you so much!
Oh my goodness!! Where have you been all my life!!! You are so dead one with mistakes and failure that I have. We all don't PLAN TO FAIL..WE FAIL TO PLAN. In this case, PLAN the Right Way. Thank you again!!!
I have gotten in the habit of making the plans and not looking at my planner again until the next morning. Bad bad me.
This is a good one!
I’ve been guilty of #6 most of 2020, but slowly I’m getting back into my planner groove. Enjoying the series!
My mistake is my planner is messy with too much information in it (I have 4 categories in one Happy Planner)! BUT, It still really help me organize my life and creates a feeling of balance within. It has helped me better understand my outlook balance as well.

I’m focusing on functionality so much more this coming year but this past year has been good
This was very helpful. For some reason I think just having a planner will keep me organized. I know I won’t haul around a book or iPad, but I always have my phone. So many great tips because I do fall off planning . I try and look at my planner every morning.

I think setting time to plan for the day, week and month are the biggest things I don't do. Then, I need to leave out my planner by my side ALL THE TIME. I will try again this week to get things done.
My mistake is 2. I put everything in my phone and forget to add to my planner. I need to keep my planner with me like I do my phone.
Try allocate a time in your day to transfer things over.
I track my spending in my phone but then write it down later before bed

You haiiir!!! ❤️❤️❤️ Wow girl! 😍🔥
Another great video! Sound was not good. Very hollow.
Keep in mind also you will go through seasons of life and the planner that worked for years doesn't any more.
Yes. So True.
I am so guilty of pre-planning on a separate sheet of paper then writing it in my planner. I even do this for my bullet journal. 🤦🏾♀️
As long as you put it into your planner....that’s all that matters
@@TheOrganizedMoney You are so right.
You look so fine !!! & thank you for the tips. 💯❤️😍
