Me too! I’ve enjoyed both the BPO and BPOYO recordings here and on Zander’s website. And I hope they post other things from this season (Mahler 3!) here as well. They’ve got a box set celebrating their 40th anniversary and Zander’s 80th birthday that you should listen to.
The number of humans beings that Zander has inspired! He deserves the Nobel Peace Prize. How he makes these kids play these advanced pieces to such high standards is just beyond belief...conducting genius!
The guy’s a phoney. Couldn’t conduct to save his life. No technique, hear buried in the scored. His so-called “conducting masterclasses”? Total crap. The guy sings and grunts incessantly, and the poor participants learn absolutely nothing.
It is an unbelievable joy to hear this wonderful music through the heart, soul and passion of the boston phillharmonic orchestra and Benjamin Zander. The gift we are given by you brings not just joy but also a warming energy to walk into the world again with open arms, love and do something wonderful.
Mr. Zander is a world well known musician and great conductor . I am so happy my daughter will join BPYO after the summer . BPYO is a great orchestra !
P.S. It was too late for me last night to write an extensive comment (and I was actually also so overwhelmed and lost for words) but, this morning I am still filled with joy about this outstanding pleasure to have been part of your performance. The sublime conducting and heartfelt narration by Benjamin Zander, the superb performance of the entire Orchestra, and then this outstanding finale with the charming Sofia Fomina, who's voice reaches all the way into the heart. Oh, what a memorable 'adventure' this so unique Concert will be for me ! ! ! To be reminded I did put it in my playlist: "Treasures beyond description" :o). THANK YOU so much for sharing this ! ! !
Замечательный концерт! Благодарю всех его участников: музыкантов оркестра и его дирижёра, прекрасную солистку и слушателей. 16.06.2022. Здоровья и творческих достижений.
Great dedication enduring to a long and sorrowful moments, in the Global communities losses and triumphs. May we find a moment of inspiration in this Adagio!
Thank you all for this wonderful concert! I am almost in tears to watch how you all love the music you are performing at such a high level giving it everything. Greetings from Holland.
It is so wonderful to see you and your musicians back on stage, in good conditions and in best mood for this concert. Over years, I followed your lectures and explanations, and I think you are one of my most important music teachers. By the time, I realized that I learnt to hear "polyphonically" when listening to instrumental music, especially when you pointed out that the melodic lines were those of the horns, the trombones, etc. Life is of beaming discoveries by good music, even at more than 70 years of age! Thank you, Mr. Zander, and best and heartfelt wishes from northern Germany.
My standard for the 4th movement of the Mahler is Szell's recording, with Judith Raskin as the soprano soloist. Raskin sounds truly child-like and profoundly mature at the same time--a remarkable performance. Fomina reminds me of Raskin. I can't think of a higher compliment...well, from me, anyway!
Have to listen to this later. However, the first thing I check in a Mahler 4 performance is the triumphant E-major chord in mvmt 3 (In this case, it's around the 1:32:18 mark). This performance has one of the more disappointing interpretations of it. I don't know if the percussionist messed up or Mr. Zander deliberately underplayed percussions. The latter is likely, as I remember during the April performance of Mahler 3 by BPO, I thought the percussion was deliberately underplayed in major parts of the outer movements.
As usual, arresting Mahler from Maestro Zander, with endless provocative details. Sofia Fomina is also a pretty sensational soprano, but much more suited to "Rusalka" than one of Mahler's Wunderhorn symphonies. Years ago Zander boldly engaged a boy soprano for the Sehr behaglich. That was Mahler's instinct as well.
Eigentlich schade, dass der vierte Satz nicht rein instrumental gehalten ist. Der Gesang mit dem seltsamen (und außerdem immer komplett unverständlichen) Text könnte meines Erachtens gut fehlen.
I am addicted to Benjamin Zander and the Boston Philharmonic.

Incantevole!
The vocal movement was pretty sensational.

Wearing masks?!
No thanks.
I'll never get over the stupidity and horror of those masks.
This orchestra has no concept of Mozart. Very drably played.
Pitiful !
It's a youth orchestra!
@@edply25 Probably the best youth orchestra in the United States (with the exception of NYO) but ok
