I do a lot of comparing the Canon R1 vs R3, just because I think there are some similarities in the Canon mirrorless camera announcements between the two. Canon R3 vs R1 will be a hot topic, and since I love the Canon EOS R3, it'll be a fun thing to compare later when the Canon EOS R1 is released. Still don't know about the Canon R1 price or specs or much else than the press release that you can see. Everything else is just Canon rumors and people like Peter McKinnon and FroKnowsPhoto, Jared Polin, are just working off of the Canon EOS R1 official announcement from this morning.

Canon develops EOS R1 as first flagship model for EOS R SYSTEM. The new image processing system further improves AF and image quality.
TOKYO, May 15, 2024-Canon Inc. announced today that it is currently developing the EOS R1, a full-frame mirrorless camera, as the first flagship model for the EOS R SYSTEM equipped with an RF mount and is aiming for a 2024 release.
EOS R1:
The EOS R1 is a mirrorless camera geared toward professionals that brings together Canon’s cutting-edge technology and combines top-class performance with the strong durability and high reliability sought in a flagship model. This camera will dramatically improve the performance of both still images and video and meet the high requirements of professionals on the frontlines of a wide range of fields including sports, news reporting, and video production.
This camera employs the newly developed image processor DIGIC Accelerator in addition to the pre-existing processor DIGIC X. The new image processing system, composed of these processors and a new CMOS sensor, enables large volume of data to be processed at high speeds and delivers never-before-seen advancements in Auto Focus (AF) and other functions.
By combining the new image processing system and deep learning technology to an advanced degree, Canon has achieved high-speed and high-accuracy subject recognition. For example, subject tracking accuracy has been improved so that in team sporting events where multiple subjects intersect, the target subject can continually be tracked even if another player passes directly in front of them.
In addition, the AF “Action Priority” function recognizes subject movement by rapidly analyzing the subject’s status. In moments during a sports game when it is difficult to predict what will happen next, this function automatically determines the player performing a certain action, such as shooting a ball, as the main subject and instantly shifts the AF frame, thereby helping to capture decisive moments of gameplay.
The combination of the new image processing system and deep learning technology will help to improve image quality. Canon implements the image noise reduction function, which has been previously developed and improved as part of the software for PCs, as a camera function to further improve image quality and contribute to user creativity.
Canon is working on field tests for this camera, and will support capturing definitive and impactful moments at international sporting events to be held in the future.

Hi. Always love your content. Just one question, at 6:00 you mention a smaller sensor being better for low light and sharpness. Don't you mean a lower resolution therefore the individual pixels are bigger? Just checking my understanding is correct !
Yes! Completely misspoke there. Not smaller sensor, less MP
I believe the bigger the sensor the bigger the pixels. Hence, letting more light into the sensor. Greater low-light sensitivity. I could be wrong though.
@@shadowsnlightsI think the idea they are getting at is that for a given size sensor - a full frame sensor in this case - lower resolution makes for bigger pixels. In other words if you have the exact same area, but in one instance it's covered by 30 million pixels, while in another it's covered by 45 million pixels, the 30 million will have to be bigger at each individual pixel to cover the same area, and bigger pixels are going to be more sensitive to lower light levels.
Of course, there's always a trade off between better sensitivity and higher resolution. Something like that.

Thanks for sharing your thoughts Vanessa. If we are honest with ourselves, the R6 line (or Sony/ Nikon equivalent) caters for 95% of everything you could ever need in a camera. The R5 takes that upto 99.9%. This really is catering for the final 0.1%. So exciting as it is, existing cameras are already insanely good.
Personally, I will watch all the hype from the sidelines, enjoy the camera I have and invest in good glass and more importantly, good training.

Well, I have an R7, 24-70 2.8 m1, 70-200 2.8 m1, and an RF 100-400. So I’ve got a LONG way to go before I even sniff an R3 or R1 😂 hoping to complete that trinity listed in RF first.

Hi Vanessa. In the pas there are another Canon camera with Dual „DIGIC 6“ processors... the Canon EOS 7D Mark II.😃 Not the same level as the upcoming R1 but I am own and using the 7D2 until today and in future beneath my actual R7.😀

I think the autofocus has more to do with tracking an individual player while the rest of the players are running around every which way. In the case of a football game, there are 11 players on each team, so it would be a complicated matter for a computer chip to keep focused on one player while 21 other players, plus a few referees, are potentially in the frame, and many will move between the player being tracked and the camera, frequently obscuring the view of that player. If the autofocus can do that with a team sport like football or basketball, then that would be a big leap forward.

I think it's going to be 8K or 12K with a full HDMI port. Too many people complain about the micro HDMI ports every time they see it. So hopefully, they have listened. The body looks large enough for it. The double processor might be a processor for video and a separate processor for photos. Or, it might be that one is for the AI calculations. We'll have to wait and see. It would be interesting to have a camera with separate processors. This would make it two cameras in one. Since this is the flagship, it will probably be comparable in price to the Sony.

1Dx had three processors, two for image processing and a third dedicated to AF and metering. Perhaps they want two processors in the R1 for similar reasons...

Just more reason why I will never get another Canon camera. I already have a M6 mark II and it still works. I spent the time to learn how to use my camera and the images can still be posted on the internet. Spending $7k on a camera just isn't something I would ever do.
I mean, we’re in a super great time in the photo world. So many great, long lasting cameras. Depending on your use factor, you’ll never need another camera!
Adorama listed features and then removed them. Could be an erroneous leak or something else, but they will probably hear from Canon about it. 30 MP full frame stacked dual-gain sensor, unlimited 40fps 1:2 CRAW and 60 fps 1:3 CRAW continuous shooting. Up to 120fps full featured continuous shooting, and supports 240fps burst continuous shooting mode, 1 second pre-shooting.
I think it was a mistakenly published copy and paste from a rumor site just to create space holder for a later release
Only some haters tried to find something critical about the song A9 III. Others that have been using it regularly say it's definitely changed the game and is a beast.

It all sounds exciting......but I thinks it's all bit much! new technology is nice, but how much is too much? Photography was the same for ever! then the first digital gear came out, still nice, but I find it hard to keep up with all the NEW tech, and let's not forget the cost! over the past two years I have been updating my gear because I was one of the hold outs shooting with really outdated gear, but hey it worked for me! I would say for me.... I won't need all that camera!

I really like Canon, especially the R5. But photo lenses are extremely expensive, and the lack of options is not very generous either. Because of this, Sony a7R V was chosen. I hope that at some point they will also take the step towards third parties because they are losing a significant percentage of potential customers.
The L lenses are definitely up there, but the other RF ones are killer quality at a lower price. Haha but of course… we like the more expensive ones

Two processors? Please tell me you understand why a camera needs two processors? The processor is the bottle neck slow down for all cameras. This why cameras are limited with how much they can pull from a sensor.

I hope #Canon makes more new cameras as quickly as possible and better ones so it doesn't become so outdated than it already is. And where is the #globalshutter and #better #sensors? And allow other camera lens manufacturers to produce lenses for the R line of the Full Frame Model. #Canon make more F4 lens like 24-400mm or 24-200mm or 24-300mm lenses light all F4 . That's is going sell a lot.

Why would it need two processors?
1.Global Shutter ( disappointing if not there).
2. 100mp+?
3. AI engine?
4. 1-TB internal HD?
5.. Unlimited buffer?
6. 240fps silent shutter?

8. 12k down scaled to 8k.
9. Social media Apps for direct uploads.

I do believe a flagship camera in this day and age should have an app for instagram, X and RUclips. I also believe Sony will be the first one to innovate that concept.

2xC70, R5c and R3 won them and use them every day... they are great cameras.. but im one guy, cant use 4 cameras at the same time.
I would get it right away if it could do so I could sell my R5c and R3 to have one camera instead for photos.

The R5C has like no battery at all.. make sure to use the R3 batteries.
Two Cfexpress type B cards pls. stop the whole sd cards thing, its just dumb
And no we dont need 200 photos a second :P but 45 MP would not hurt for a flagship camera, or maybe 50 like the A1 from sony.
And no we dont need global shutter :D hehe... simply no need.
And when Canon cry about video people not using their RF lenses, then think about how we use our cameras with ND filters build in.
we need an "adaptor" that dosent make the mount EF with ND behind the lens

So comment number 2... I think the Canon R1 will be around $3500 $4300 because it can't go much higher since it would blow away the R5C, and out price the Cinema C70 In their cinema line which would be absolutely STUPID of them, since its now only $4999, and the R5C is as at the time of this comment, only $3599. Also, no, I don't think there will be any sort of vents on the camera since it has to remain rugged and weather resistant, a fan would open it up to debris and moisture getting into the vents.
Also, can ya'll by any chance show your video and audio setup? I'm always curious what setups people have for video..
Might also help to get some sound blankets behind the facing camera to knock out that reverb if ya want. You can substitute moving blankets. It just stops that sound of your voice from bouncing all over the place. Hope that helps. Harbor freight carries them and they are pretty good and very cheap.
Now if you will excuse me... I'm gonna go eat some LAYS BBQ Chips and try to get through the next batch of these stupid receipts so we can finally get our refund..... and perhaps the new Cavapoo Puppy my wife and kids want.. ok.. and me I guess lol. Sometimes I film here using natural daylight, but for this one I had to have a Hobolite Pro on daylight balance, max power, bouncing off my very large white wall that I’m facing. Canon R3 with the RF85mm 1.2 and rode lavs (sometimes we set up the shotgun mic but we had so little time to film this that the lav was just easier
@@VanessaJoy Yeah i just did a shoot with my NEEWER monolight and almost screwed up the whole shoot. I couldn’t even see the light hardly on the person. it was a disaster!! We are definitely upgrading to new lighting

So Canon announce the R1 but actually announce nothing - they have to move to get the R1 out to photographers by the Olympics. As for CF-Express Sony A7R5 has dual cards (ok - A cards which are smaller, slower, more expensive but dual cards so covered in case of failure) - also if you have an R1 Peter McKinnon is going to be p#ssed but that will teach him for shooting film
