4:16 "there's no actual cab model here" - but he's using the amp+cab block on Helix, not just the amp block...? I think this is why the opening clip and a couple other clips sound really dark and just not great: he was essentially running through two cabs in series.
Youre so correct technically, but the configuration is a little lazy to say the least. Its like when i copy a patch that was set for a mixer and rename it so i can put it in front of an amp, i remove the "amp+cab" blocks. Then i modify the heck out of the tone because you just have to for it to sound right in front of a real amp.
Yeah, the opening clip and a couple clips around 4:16 really sound bad, like Helix's cab block is on when he's running into the PowerCab with its cab modeling on as well.
okay. just snapped out of my voice-induced trance. is there a cost effective FRFR monitor/speaker here that assumes full use of the Helix? Don’t need to pay for a duplication of capability.
Can someone do a video on how to program the midi on the Helix to control the PowerCab? I have one and love it. Been messing with the midi control using the manual but no luck so far. I want to use this functionality live.
Ok, so I am going to run my helix into a mixer all day every day. Thats why i bought it. At home, I use an Alto TS212 powered monitor so i can actually hear the tone I am configuring my Helix to generate. I only heard one good real world reason to buy this. You play a lot of smaller gigs/fairs where the house is already setup to mic your amp and this will do the job. I can still haul my TS212 around, same weight, same tone, dont have to reconfig my patches. Its just not $800 or $1000 cool. Bring the price down and i might buy a used one just to check it out. Otherwise, im sticking with my Helix to do what it does the best, right into the mixer.
Rob Long - I use my helix with an Alto TX and we have a few L2Ts at rehearsal, as well as studio monitors at home. I don't see any reason to spend that kinda cash on this at all. However someone who owns a Pod HD 500 or any other modeller that doesn't have the capability to use IRs will want the plus version for that feature alone. But Helix already does everything and sounds killer with any FRFR solution or direct to FOH
I have a helix and I play it at home through an EV ZLX 12P, and it's great for that already mic'd sound but if this does a great job of emulating the 'amp in the room' feel without having to mess with lots of settings then that's definitely worth it to me.
Hi, this means that you can connect the Helix direct straight to the Alto speakers without using a (small) sound mixer? I have a HD500X, then in order to use a PA speaker, since my POD doesnt have IRs I do need a sound mixer? (As if connecting direct to house mixer).
I saw another video where it was said that they can be mic'd like a traditional speaker cab, but surely you would have to pay very close attention to where you place the mic in relation to the compression driver. Or am I mistaken and the "raw" mode is used for speaker emulation and FRFR is just used for when it is being used as a monitor? I've often thought it would be better to use a single driver with a wide frequency response as a base rather than a coax or traditional horn and tweeter arrangement. You can get full range single drivers, however they normally don't compare well to two or three way designs when it comes to hi-fi application. However, for this kind of application, you don't need hi-fi like response. You just need a wider response than the speakers you are trying to emulate.
Hey there, You can definitely change the shape of the sound depending on where you would be placing the microphone on this cabinet. And yes, you are correct... you would have to consider the compression driver as it is a bit different than a standard guitar cab. There are a few different voicings available: FRFR, LF Solo, and LF Flat. If you didn't want to utilize those settings, you would be able to use the the emulations that are included with the speaker. You would be able to use the FRFR mode for more than just a monitor. It ultimately depends on the settings and sound you are trying to achieve. Thanks for reaching out! Jozy Franco, Sweetwater Sales Engineer, (800) 222-4700 ext. 3015
Hi, Jacob. Yes! Since the PowerCab has cab/speaker models built into it, you don't need to have a cab block set up on the Helix. Thanks for your interest! Charlie Davis, Sweetwater Sales Engineer, (800) 222-4700 ext. 1320, charlie_davis@sweetwater.com
YES. Exactly. Then...if you send the DI out from the Powercab to the FOH, you can select mic emulations with the ability to choose mic type and distance that will only affect the DI send. So, this means you send the sound of a “mic’d speaker in the Powercab” to the FOH while only hearing the sound of the speaker model “in the Powercab enclosure”coming out of the front...for your stage sound. Like an actual amp would sound.
Hey Steve does same irs that you use for helix , are they the same that goes to powercab or are they different, in other words will irs I hsve now for helix work in powercab
To me this video went from "I think I know how to use it, but I still want to see a product demo" to "I'm very confused now". Good job Mr. product specialist!
He gave a really poor explanation, shifting between amp/cab, amp, PowerCab... Sweetwater should make them do it over again. 1. If you select one of the speaker models, it's like that 12" speaker inside of that 1-12 cabinet. 2. If you select a typical IR, which (similar to a cab model) is the sum of a speaker, cab, mic, etc: is it (for example) that IR version of a Marshall 412 with greenbacks, mic'd with an SM57, as if it was all stuffed inside that 1-12 cabinet? If the PowerCab's own cabinet affects the modeled speaker, it must also affect the IR. Or is there some kind of compensation going on in Flat Response mode, to make the physical cabinet transparent to the IR?
No both cabs have 6 or 7 speaker emulations already in them..its like you have flat response ..vintage 30s greenbacks etc.... but The plus model has impulse responses already loaded into them.
Honestly I already spent the money on the helix and I don't think I believe I need the extra speaker modeling in a cabinet. I am not seeing the advantage of purchasing this as an addition to the helix. What I want is a speaker, perhaps with that XLR, that sounds great with the already build in speakers in the helix and the IR's I bought and loaded into the helix.
This does exactly that? Or it has its own speaker mode if you want to save the DSP on your Helix. The Plus will also model IRs so your Helix doesn't have to. What you're asking for is exactly what this does....?
Great questions! It depends on your mixer. If you want to use one of the XLR inputs on your mixer it's probably set for mic level, or you can use a line input if you have them available. There isn't any easy way to link a plus model and standard together for stereo, but if you're using a Helix or any device with a stereo output you can send the left output to one speaker and right output to the other directly. Two plus cabs with the L6 link cables is the most versatile and convenient setup, though. Let me know if you have other questions! Connor Smith, Sweetwater Sales Engineer, (800) 222-4700 ext. 1793, connor_smith@sweetwater.com
Hi, Aziz Aziz. The Helix LT can work with either version of the PowerCab. The Plus model does allow you to store IR's so if that is something you need, that would be the version to get. Both versions of the PowerCab have built in cab models and can run as a flat response speaker, so they'll both work great with all of the Helix products. Thanks for your interest! Charlie Davis, Sweetwater Sales Engineer, (800) 222-4700 ext. 1320, charlie_davis@sweetwater.com
just saw the price in my country, actually pretty expensive lol anyone can recommend a similar flat response speaker product? otherwise gonna go with flat studio monitors. im using hxstomp btw
Hello, Shy! You wouldn't want to run the power of a tube amp into another power amp. If you were going to use a head with this, you'd want to run from the preamp send. I haven't heard it that way yet, as this was really designed to work more with amp emulators (Helix, Kemper, etc.). Thanks for your question! Charlie Davis, Sweetwater Sales Engineer, (800) 222-4700 ext. 1320
Hey, MegaCleez! You could technically do that, but I think you'd be better suited just running your tube amp into a regular guitar cabinet. There may be more to talk about, so please feel free to give me a call if you get a chance. Thanks for the interest! Kevin Spunde, Sweetwater Sales Engineer, (800) 222-4700 ext. 1732
Hello, Shannon! We are taking pre-orders for these now, and should be receiving an initial shipment this time next month. Let us know if you'd like to reserve one, since they will probably sell through before the first shipment even arrives. Thanks for the interest! Great stuff but its too expensive for us hobbyist guitar players at home use only (not pros playing live). I need an FRFR for home use only that I can hook up my Firehawk FX or Helix modeler into to get all the Amp cabs and Efx from my unit and play electric or acoustic guitar and have also some way to play my backing tracks to jam along with. But it needs to be < $350. what are the options? the Line 6 L series PAs are too big and powerful and expensive so I was really hoping this would be my solutions but it seems not so. :( Please Line 6 think of us at home who love our modeler and need a simple and inexpensive option. These are almost as much as the modeler itself!
If line6 wants to hire me to explain things better I'm available I'm also a good player ...thank goodness the older guy was there to explain the bumbling.
There is no amp in the room feel with Line6 or any modeler because there literally is no "real" amp in the room, this powercab sounds like a modeled version of a real passive speaker cab but with a digital tone and feel.
For Helix owners: the diverging path on his shirt doesn't make sense, it doesn't bypass anything in the path above it--it may as well be a straight path lol
This demo is so confusing to me. The product is actually confusing to me too, but the fact that he spends the first 6 minutes screwing around with the helix controls instead of the cab's, really frustrated me. We got it - the helix is great, and has its own cab sims etc. But I just want to see you using the powercab, and using the powercab controls. It is already a product which most people are not going to be sure of...Demo the basics (Helix WITHOUT CAB sims on, going into the power cab!!). Don't mess around with the midi controls/connectivity features with the Helix before doing that that!
Hey guys, amp demos aren't a freakin Jason bourne movie. Enough with the camera shake already, tell your camera guy that he's causing vertigo in people who just want to watch an amp demo and to save the cinematic camera shake for his home videos. This is unwatchable
I was hoping he was going to demo how great the speaker modeling sounds with classic amp models. Too much talk. Not enough rock. Looking forward to more. Please demo classic tones and not weenie metal and delay and reverb drenched schlock. TIA.
He has the greatest voice of all time
Came for the Powercab, stayed for Andy Paredes’ beautiful voice
His voice is like Javier Bardem speaking with an American accent.
@@hanskorn he uses the Bardem voice model, no doubt.
He sounds like the Petrucci parody video voice.
Came for the Powercab, stayed for Andy Paredes’ beautiful voice
Cool convo between Andy and Mitch! Both these guy's are awesome with gear, so great explanation of this new product concept! Clever!👍🏽
I can't wait to try this product ... not the easiest discussion to understand for people new to the concept
Is he using an line6 voice modeling? Barry white IR maybe? 😁
Jone Gomez I'd buy his "IR." That's a hell of a speaking voice.
hahahhahahha
Just bought a Powercab 112, brilliant monitor. I want Andy Paredes to read me bedtime stories, what a soothing voice
Straight away, this sounds waaay better than a headrush. I'm a fan.
It puts the lotion on it's skin
hahahahahahahahahaaha
I’ve been bugging Line6 for something like this for several years. They listened!
4:16 "there's no actual cab model here" - but he's using the amp+cab block on Helix, not just the amp block...? I think this is why the opening clip and a couple other clips sound really dark and just not great: he was essentially running through two cabs in series.

Boy Aditya not sure about the looks but the voice is spot on !
I kept waiting for him to pull out an air tank and captive bolt gun. LOL
Nice :) I just saw Mother! - great flick!
Seriously thought the same thing lol
He sounds like a guy that phones up to say he's kidnapped your family.
ha
okay. just snapped out of my voice-induced trance. is there a cost effective FRFR monitor/speaker here that assumes full use of the Helix? Don’t need to pay for a duplication of capability.
i didnt know tarzan works at line 6
I'm very interested in the concept of these power cabinets but the was the most confusing demo I've ever seen!!!
I agree, for someone who demos products hes very confusing in explaining stuff.
I have to admit - listening to this video again for the second time (2 years later!) I was finally able to make sense of it!
Thanks for the on stage 125 Db statement.

I love that T shirt!
wish the made this is a 2x12 model or even a 4x12 cab.
They do make a 2x12 now. A 4x12 would defeat the purpose of digital modeling 😂
Hey Steve does same irs that you use for helix , are they the same that goes to powercab or are they different, in other words will irs I hsve now for helix work in powercab
Is there a difference between the helix output and the cab output in terms of sound quality or volume?
Luke, I am your father! Great presentation
So if you have the helix, no need to get the plus, sweet.
So does this mean if you have a helix dont need a "plus" model? I just want to use it for making accurate patches for my helix
Get the Plus if 1) you want to load and run IR’s from the Powercab itself or 2) if you want to use Midi to control the Powercab.
Can I plug both my guitar modeler AND an electronic drumkit at the same time?
You can, but that kick drum's gonna eat wattage and clean headroom for breakfast.
To me this video went from "I think I know how to use it, but I still want to see a product demo" to "I'm very confused now". Good job Mr. product specialist!

Andy is going hiking after this video
Those were the days when you had one amp and one cab and you just plugged in. Bliss.
So the regular 112 Powercab is only a flat response?
No both cabs have 6 or 7 speaker emulations already in them..its like you have flat response ..vintage 30s greenbacks etc.... but The plus model has impulse responses already loaded into them.
How does it sound for the sitar model?

He sounds like the John Petrucci instructional videos.
Saves dsp power in the helix by transfer IR to power cab
How does the output work on the Powercab when using the FLAT mode? No mic emulation right?
I would assume that is correct. Can someone pls verify??
just saw the price in my country, actually pretty expensive lol
anyone can recommend a similar flat response speaker product?

too much talk :/

Yeah wow he did not really explain the Flat mode vs speaker sim/IR really well... felt rushed.

Stephen Soukup I'm using JBL LR 308 studio monitors 112 watts each great sounding and around $400.00 a pair got mine from Sweetwater sounds amazing

For me this IR stuff is much to complicated. I want to play an amp or a modeller into the PA. That’s it.
For Helix owners: the diverging path on his shirt doesn't make sense, it doesn't bypass anything in the path above it--it may as well be a straight path lol
Thats to show its an FX loop...And if turned off does bypass all the stuff in it....
well... it is an expensive powered monitor. It is in opposition to why we use amp modellers. Not impressed.
Supposedly the IRs in the powercab sound somehow better than in the Helix, but yeah it does defeat the purpose of going digital to downsize on gear.
That makes my head hurt. Give me a tube amp with a volume and tone knob and I’m good.
good thing mitch was there, andy just cant explain anything well..
This isn't rocket appliances
Huh?
I am not an idiot and this is way too much needless complication. Headrush here I come.

I'm done with valve amps, overpriced and sucky for a 1 sound rig

I think hendrix’s 3 pedals and an amp is better solution. This was way too confusing. Learnt more from reading the comments....
Or, you can put a piece of tape over the horn on the FRFR, and stick it behind you when you play. Save yourself $800.
hey, LESS talk - MORE playing next time, please - let us decide what sounds good !
sound samples start in @ 3:33 & 4:06 FYI.
2 seconds of sound samples in an 11 minute interview :(
Blah blah blah blah...... NO clue what you're talking about.

i just threw out my sky guitar and my gorilla amp and switched to playing the harmonica after this verbal diarrhea.........
do these work well with the HD500's via L6? I'm tired of my DT50's breaking down constantly. I'm literally afraid to use them.
I was thinking of getting a dt50 on reverb. Are they really that unreliable?
