  • A refining layer is all about glazing with transparent pigments to adjust and unify colour tones, deepen shadows and enhance detail with thin applications of paint. I tend to use Liquin Original to thin my paint to create a transparent glaze but Gamblin Galkyd also works well. Both of these mediums will allow the glaze application to be touch dry in about 24hrs while maintaining the ‘fat over lean’ principle for oil painting.
