Meet the Bags Packed Family: Jonathan and Kelly, along with our three adventurous children. Nine years ago, we embarked on an incredible journey, leaving our home in Alaska, USA, behind to explore the world. As teachers, we were fortunate to find amazing opportunities in Chennai, India, where we spent two enriching years. Seeking new experiences, we then made our way to the United Arab Emirates.
Just as we were settling into our UAE life, the pandemic struck, but it didn't dampen our spirits. Instead, we saw it as an opportunity for another chapter in our journey. We moved to Indonesia, where we currently hold teaching jobs, and it has been a time of learning, growth, and connection.
As a family, we thrive on traveling and embracing the unknown. Adventures are our way of life, and through our experiences, we aim to inspire our children to be confident in meeting new people, trying diverse cuisines, and immersing themselves in different languages and cultures.

Hello Bags Packed Family, I hope you are always in good health and always under God's protection, I hope you are interested in visiting the city of Batu (meaning rock) in Malang, this city is located in the mountains 90 km southwest of Surabaya, so it will be very cold. The Dutch nicknamed it De Kleine Zwitserland or Little Switzerland on the island of Java, you can also find a natural hot spring bath called "Cangar". This place is still rarely visited by tourists, especially international tourists like you, lots of cheap local inns, villas, tea gardens, apple orchards, strawberry gardens and many more

unfortunately Batu is not cold anymore…it's even getting hot…especially compared to 20-25 years ago ( i live in Malang since childhood)
Its because shrinking forests and agricultural land due to the excessive development of entertainment venues, hotels, villas, residential areas…exacerbated by the many vehicles, tour buses, visitors cars & motors from outside

Another great video guys! Dawet usually has jackfruit and fermented cassava or “tape singkong” (tape pronounced tuh-pey). You probably found a lot of tape in Bandung, the Sundanese (people of West Java) call it peuyeum (silent “u”).

That dawet ice has a fermented cassava / "tape"（Tuh-pay）in Bahasa. Usually they have jackfruit in another place. Fyi. There's alot yummyy vegetarian food also in Surabaya you guys can try . Like lontong balap,tahu tek ,lontong kupang etc.

FYI in 24:32, the fruit that you mention was not Jackfruit. We called it here 'Tape/Tapay' from fermented rice/cassava

5.1 Soto soups made with meat and vegetables, each region with own variation
5.2 Sop buntut is a delicious and hearty oxtail soup
6. Rujak is a traditional Javanese fruit and vegetable salad dish y made with sliced fresh fruits and vegetables served with a spicy sugar palm dressing. Rujak tastes tangy, sweet, and spicy thanks to the dressing made from ground chilli, palm sugar, shrimp paste, and peanuts.
7. Rendang, a meat dish made with beef or others which is slow-cooked for several hours in coconut milk and spices until it becomes tender.
8. Bakso - Indonesian springier meatball made from finely ground beef mixed with a small amount of tapioca flour and salt.
9. Siomay fish dumplings served with a peanut sauce, a derivative of Chinese shumai

I remember one time I found your family video in Papua and just watching it for killing time then actually it's fun to see you and your family journey in Indonesia and understand your perspective as an expat. And now RUclips keep recommending your video on my feed. Easy and fun content boss but I think it's time to step up the game a little bit, time to use a proper advance pocket point and shoot camera such as Sony RX100 (mark iii around 3 mil or mark v around 5 mil), Canon G7X ii or iii also a good choice. I mean I believe your channel is growing so better quality of video is kinda must. And it's just a small point shoot camera, not a day and night difference in terms of portability vs gopro but for sure it could produce a better quality of video. Good work and I enjoy your video.
