Skies of Arcadia 100% needs to be remastered and put on modern consoles. But not with any of the suggestions you added. Pretty wild to submit such drastic changes to a game you never played before.
As someone who is ecstatic indie devs are now making games that invoke the PS1 era, I can't agree with all the complaints against the graphics. Modern HD AAA graphics are expensive and its why we see so little JRPGs these days. There's so much more risk to making these games now and to see gamers championing the push for graphics makes me so sad.

Just in the first 4 months of the year we have: Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth, Persona 3 Reload, Granblue Fantasy Relink, Final Fantasy VII Rebirth, Unicorn Overlord, Saga Emerald Beyond with Ys X Nordics, Trails through Daybreak, Decapolice, VIsions of Mana, Metaphor ReFantazio still coming latter this year. This is probably one of the greatest years for JRPGs ever.

This game had only 30M $ budget, which is still much less than Shenmue, Sakura Wars 2, Panzer Dragoon Saga had in 90's (even without counting inflation). Sega still don't released AAA game with more 50-100M $ since Shenmue. The only one AAA JRPG is now Final Fanatsy XVI and Final Fantasy VII Remake / Rebirth with 150-200M $ budget for game.

IMO I’d rather have a Parasite Eve remaster. I played it for the first time last year and was floored by how well it still holds up. I wouldn’t want them to change the battle system.

Like I am not trying to be the worlds biggest hater but it feels like "I want them to redo all of these classics so they feel exactly like a game that already exists" is a bad take.
I loved Skies of Arcadia: Legends on GameCube and The Legend of Dragoon so much that I wrote up my own guides to follow and played both multiple times to get 100%. On LoD, I was failing different attacks on purpose to figure out the exact enemy HP. I also liked how the enemy tactics change when they get to 1/2 HP. That was what had me start writing that guide.
Dark Cloud could 100% work with the Souls-like combat. Keep the building aspects of it, which is still really unique for the genre, even with a game that was released over 2 decades ago. BluePoint has done remakes in the past, Shadow of the Colossus and, more importantly, Demon's Souls on the PS5, so they already have the engine down and the experience necessary.
A modern Breath of Fire series remake would be amazing or even if they just remastered the graphics because I have a feeling with all the Rogue likes that are out today for the fire 5 would be a positive game now
Xenogears is number for me to get a remake. Hd2d would work well enough but after playing FF7 remake (Loved.) and Rebirth (Still playing first playthrough now. lol) the thought of seeing the deathblows in full 3d is too glorious to ignore. lol
I wish they went the Skies of Arcadia route. The GameCube version is the same game with quality of life adjustments. Make a sequel if you want to upgrade the graphics or completely change the battle system.

Because Valkyria Chronicles & Skies of Arcadia developers were disbanned in 2018 (whole Creative Studio R&D 3 was disbanned). They are doing now ports on Steam (for example they ported Persona 5 Royal on Steam) and mobile games on japanese market.
Honestly, something like a Xenogears resmaster doesn't seem as impossible as it seemed a a few years ago. Also as someone who loves Tactics Ogre: The Knight of Lodis but never played FFT, modern ports? yes please!
Games that need full remakes would be SMT1, 2, if..., 4, 4A, and Strange Journey with SMT5's combat/engine/graphics. Dragon Quest 8 with DQ11's graphics and skill system though I would be cool with a HD remaster. Other ones that come to mind would be Devil Summoner, Raidou, and Soul Hackers.
Great choices, especially Tactics! It's crazy that there isn't a way to enjoy it on modern consoles/PC. Though I must needs decry you, knave, for thy reproach of the Queen's English. Verily doth it move mine thespian senses, as such Shakespearian tongue is wont to do. I'm a huge JRPG fan, but there are a number of classic series that I didn't get around to until many years after their release, and in some cases, it's hard to go backwards from the contemporary entries. I attempted to go back in the Ys series after really enjoying VIII and found myself so underwhelmed by the simplistic combat of its predecessors. Having some remakes of some favorite entries in that series with the addition of the flash guard and move would be excellent, I loved the thrill of perfectly guarding enemy attacks in Lacrimosa and getting a chance to counterattack. I think it would be great to get remakes (or even just quality ports) of PSX classics like Wild Arms, Valkyrie Profile, Vagrant Story, and Brave Fencer Musashi. Plus, another horror-themed RPG, Shadow Hearts: Covenant from the PS2 era. It would be great to have a way to enjoy these that doesn't involve trying to hunt down ROMs.

Well Sega turned Valkyria Chronicles (Valkyria Revolution spin-off), Shining, Sakura Wars and Phantasy Star (if count MMO as a action game) into mindless hack'n slash games, so there is high probability they can ruin with changing combat also in Skies of Arcadia.
Other than Nier: Automata, Chrono Trigger is my favorite game of all time. My license plate is CHRONO for a reason. And I HAVE to say: You are absolutely correct. Chrono Trigger deserves a Star Ocean Second Story R style remake with high quality voice acting, beautifully lit backgrounds, redone anime cutscenes and all the polish a game of its caliber should have. I would be fine with an FF7R style remake as well. I'm not going to be a purist. Give us action combat, give us action/ATB. GIVE US WHATEVER; all I care is that people support the fuck out of Chrono Trigger, so we can finally get Chrono Break (or whatever they'll call it.) Please. 😭
I want a dragon quest 11 version of Crono Trigger more than anything! Give me the same game. Overhaul it with those sweet new age Akira toriyama models. Then give me an on and off switch to play in either the 2D original or the new 3D deluxe take my money version for including both version.
That’s a hard no to Skies of Arcadia changing to an action battle system. It isn’t needed and fun being just turn based. I can agree with updated visuals and voice acting and other QOL improvements but please keep the battle system the same. Forget Tales of Abyss. I’d rather get a Japan only tales game and have it come to the west as a remake. Or I’ll certainly be open to Fantasia remake and even Legendia. But no not Abyss.
Yes! Dark Cloud is one of my favourite games. One issue is that it's a PlayStation published game so Sony have to approve it. I played it very recently in 2021 and still enjoyed it as much as I did back in the day. I think it's got a charm to it and a simplicity that I adore. Sure there's some weird typos and a little jank, but I think it controls pretty well honestly.
We certainly need the three missing Fire Emblem titles to complete the series in the West. PLEASE, add none or little of that Three Houses / Engage hub world nonsense. Modern FE games get on my nerves with how much longer it takes to play them.

I am definitely against turning any of the turned based games into action games. i don’t like that they did it with Final Fantasy 7 remake and I don’t understand the need to do it. If they want to have both that’s fine, but why change it for everyone who loved the original???
Can't agree w/ making both regular battles & ship battles in Skies of Arcadia action-based. Maybe one but not the other. The planning in ship battles was a really unique puzzle that it'd be a shame to lose. In regular battles, the magic elements having different AoE shapes was great but underutilized since you couldn't control positioning, so definitely some room for improvement there.
@@timedasher Plus, when you had the upgrades late in the game, the non-story ship battles becoming trivial really made the power scale be felt (and who doesn't love a super weapon).
They could do FF 4-6 like they do with Star Ocean Fist departure, second story. Chrono Trigger like Live a Live. And finally also Vagrant Story deserves a remaster/remake. Dragon Quest 3 with the anime/manga characters.
I agree with many of these choices but a resounding HELL NO to making Dragoon and Skies "action" combat instead of keeping their turn based combat. There is no reason to change them, especially Dragoon bc the timed button presses is still something seen in a lot of games today and is part of what makes the game unique.
I fell in love with Persona 4 than Persona 3. Persona 3 was too gloomy for my taste.. The only good thing about Persona 3 was when they released the PSP version with female main character. ALSO, GREAT JOB FOR INCLUDING TALES OF ABYSS! One of my favourite JRPG games of all times!!!

Don’t understand the persona games but I can see the appeal, I agree legend of dragoon, dark cloud, final fantasy tactics and chrono trigger for sure. I would like to see Mystic Quest (I know not the greatest but a great introduction to JRPG), FFVIII & FFIX (FFX & FFX2 don’t need it). We already for Mario RPG, and soon paper Mario. I’m sure there are a bunch others I never got to play but these all were my childhood.
As much as I want a Geneology Remake/Remaster I desperately want a remake/remaster of Fire Emblem 1. There is absolutely no reason why it shouldn't exist. Be it with 3D modles or HD.2D there is no reason Marth has been the face of Fire Emblem in Smash Bros for so long with his original game being inaccessible outside of a limited window on a shitty Nintendo online service. So much yes on Chrono Trigger. Remember "Chroo Resurrection"? I daresay remaking it in style of let's say Dragon Quest 11 would be a dream come true but Star Ocean's style would be second best IMO. That game really needs a facelift, it is still one of the best JRPGs ever, but it received nothing but ports over the years, with a piddly additional content on DS.
I just played P4 golden for the first time last year and loved it. I would totally be down with a remake/remaster as it would give me an excuse to go play it again and live in that world more. Chrono Trigger at this point almost feels like they can't touch it. But I agree with you. Keep it the same just update it with better graphics and voice acting. Some quality of life improvements like fast forward. But nothing else. i'd be down for Legend of Dragoon as an action remake with the dragoon changes as like a super saiyan mode to use as a limit break kind of thing. Skies of Arcadia is sooooo good. We need a remake! NO ACTION COMBAT! It is odd that Squeenix didn't test the waters with Parasite Eve on the remake spectrum. It's really unique and I feel like a lot of people would go for it if they marketed it well. Remaking Xenogears will probably never happen with what's going on with the Xeno games. However, it would be the easiest remake ever. Just make the second disc like the first disc, make it HD, give it some quality of life improvements, and maybe flesh out the story of a couple of the characters that got left by the wayside like the big green guy.

Legend of Dragoon was good. It definitely needs a facelift. I would prefer them to go with a more of an Infinite wealth/DQ11 Turn based system. It both incorporates the timed presses the OG game implemented but expands on it in more of an interactive way. Parasite Eve needs the RE2 treatment. Not just a new graphic engine and modern gameplay features. Like you said some side content and expanded lore is much needed.
More than anything, I want a Tales of Destiny remake. Director's cut was great, but there's still room for improvement. Keep the art style from that version, add some voice acting, and expand on some of the side stories. I feel like they did Mary dirty. As for Parasite Eve, I would love to see a remake of that too, but keep the combat style. Resident Evil can be Resident Evil, let Parasite Eve be its own thing.
OR just have them make new games instead of remakes and remasters and sequels all the time... But hey, thats just me who wants new cool games instead of the games already exist or I might already know. Not to even mention that FF7R 2 reportedly is more than 50% filler, meaning, that the original game obviously wasnt supposed to be split into 3 remake games, but people are into it, because mindless consumerism
I expect at least a few of these Square games to get remakes. They've been knocking it out in the last few years with remakes/remasters and they've stated they have interest. But I don't Bandai Namco to ever remake Tales of the Abyss. Bamco is like the laziest & cheapest big Japanese developers. Couldn't even properly "remaster" one of their most popular titles!

I really would like a Breath of Fire 2 Remake. But totally different. The story, the world and the characters were so great. It was pretty dark for RPGs at the time with some sad moments. Party members were ver yinique and cool. A reboot woth that story and characters woyld be awesome.

Tales of Abyss also had a great anime that got ignored. Could be worth dubbing and re-releasing at the same time.

I want them to remake the Shadow Hearts series, at least 1 and 2. It was funny, dark, and amazing and I miss that series so damn much.

That’s a hard no to Skies of Arcadia changing to an action battle system. It isn’t needed and fun being just turn based. I can agree with updated visuals and voice acting and other QOL improvements but please keep the battle system the same.
Forget Tales of Abyss. I’d rather get a Japan only tales game and have it come to the west as a remake. Or I’ll certainly be open to Fantasia remake and even Legendia. But no not Abyss.
Yes! Dark Cloud is one of my favourite games. One issue is that it's a PlayStation published game so Sony have to approve it. I played it very recently in 2021 and still enjoyed it as much as I did back in the day. I think it's got a charm to it and a simplicity that I adore. Sure there's some weird typos and a little jank, but I think it controls pretty well honestly.

Persona 4 doesn't really need a remake to be frank. It's perfectly fine as it is.

I am definitely against turning any of the turned based games into action games. i don’t like that they did it with Final Fantasy 7 remake and I don’t understand the need to do it. If they want to have both that’s fine, but why change it for everyone who loved the original???

Can't agree w/ making both regular battles & ship battles in Skies of Arcadia action-based. Maybe one but not the other. The planning in ship battles was a really unique puzzle that it'd be a shame to lose. In regular battles, the magic elements having different AoE shapes was great but underutilized since you couldn't control positioning, so definitely some room for improvement there.
Agree, the ship battles required a strategy, trial and error for the later game ship battles
@@timedasher Plus, when you had the upgrades late in the game, the non-story ship battles becoming trivial really made the power scale be felt (and who doesn't love a super weapon).

I agree with many of these choices but a resounding HELL NO to making Dragoon and Skies "action" combat instead of keeping their turn based combat. There is no reason to change them, especially Dragoon bc the timed button presses is still something seen in a lot of games today and is part of what makes the game unique.
I fell in love with Persona 4 than Persona 3. Persona 3 was too gloomy for my taste.. The only good thing about Persona 3 was when they released the PSP version with female main character. ALSO, GREAT JOB FOR INCLUDING TALES OF ABYSS! One of my favourite JRPG games of all times!!!

I wouldn't hold your breath for anything Parasite Eve related. I'm fairly certain Square-Enix let the license go and I don't see Square-Enix renewing it anytime soon.

Don’t understand the persona games but I can see the appeal, I agree legend of dragoon, dark cloud, final fantasy tactics and chrono trigger for sure. I would like to see Mystic Quest (I know not the greatest but a great introduction to JRPG), FFVIII & FFIX (FFX & FFX2 don’t need it). We already for Mario RPG, and soon paper Mario. I’m sure there are a bunch others I never got to play but these all were my childhood.
As much as I want a Geneology Remake/Remaster I desperately want a remake/remaster of Fire Emblem 1. There is absolutely no reason why it shouldn't exist. Be it with 3D modles or HD.2D there is no reason Marth has been the face of Fire Emblem in Smash Bros for so long with his original game being inaccessible outside of a limited window on a shitty Nintendo online service. Also no the DS "remakes" also suck and the 2nd DS game you can even olay legally becayse item Japanese exclusive.
Give it the proper voice acting, overhaul of the level design, graphics, and acceptability it deserves.

So much yes on Chrono Trigger. Remember "Chroo Resurrection"? I daresay remaking it in style of let's say Dragon Quest 11 would be a dream come true but Star Ocean's style would be second best IMO. That game really needs a facelift, it is still one of the best JRPGs ever, but it received nothing but ports over the years, with a piddly additional content on DS.
I just played P4 golden for the first time last year and loved it. I would totally be down with a remake/remaster as it would give me an excuse to go play it again and live in that world more.
Chrono Trigger at this point almost feels like they can't touch it. But I agree with you. Keep it the same just update it with better graphics and voice acting. Some quality of life improvements like fast forward. But nothing else.
i'd be down for Legend of Dragoon as an action remake with the dragoon changes as like a super saiyan mode to use as a limit break kind of thing.

It is odd that Squeenix didn't test the waters with Parasite Eve on the remake spectrum. It's really unique and I feel like a lot of people would go for it if they marketed it well.
Remaking Xenogears will probably never happen with what's going on with the Xeno games. However, it would be the easiest remake ever. Just make the second disc like the first disc, make it HD, give it some quality of life improvements, and maybe flesh out the story of a couple of the characters that got left by the wayside like the big green guy.

I just want to know what a FF7 Remake Chrono Trigger would look like! FF7 Remake was visually just so unexpected and cool to see the difference. I think Chrono Trigger could have a similar feeling.
Maaaan, imagine a Xenogears remake made by Tetsuya Takahashi, he would have the opportunity of finally finishing the game, that would be the dream! I know that Monolith Soft is owned by Nintendo, but I wouldn't want this remake to be made by any other developer.
Legend of Dragoon was good. It definitely needs a facelift. I would prefer them to go with a more of an Infinite wealth/DQ11 Turn based system. It both incorporates the timed presses the OG game implemented but expands on it in more of an interactive way.
Parasite Eve needs the RE2 treatment. Not just a new graphic engine and modern gameplay features. Like you said some side content and expanded lore is much needed.
I don’t think “My 3rd Birthday” did well enough for Square-Enix to consider remaking Parasite Eve.
More than anything, I want a Tales of Destiny remake. Director's cut was great, but there's still room for improvement. Keep the art style from that version, add some voice acting, and expand on some of the side stories. I feel like they did Mary dirty. As for Parasite Eve, I would love to see a remake of that too, but keep the combat style. Resident Evil can be Resident Evil, let Parasite Eve be its own thing.
OR just have them make new games instead of remakes and remasters and sequels all the time... But hey, thats just me who wants new cool games instead of the games already exist or I might already know. Not to even mention that FF7R 2 reportedly is more than 50% filler, meaning, that the original game obviously wasnt supposed to be split into 3 remake games, but people are into it, because mindless consumerism
I expect at least a few of these Square games to get remakes. They've been knocking it out in the last few years with remakes/remasters and they've stated they have interest. But I don't Bandai Namco to ever remake Tales of the Abyss. Bamco is like the laziest & cheapest big Japanese developers. Couldn't even properly "remaster" one of their most popular titles!

I’ve been dying for a Legend of the Dragoons and Xenogears remake/remaster. It is such a wishful dream but if we ever get it, I’ll be the first few preordering it.
I really would like a Breath of Fire 2 Remake. But totally different.
The story, the world and the characters were so great. It was pretty dark for RPGs at the time with some sad moments. Party members were ver yinique and cool. A reboot woth that story and characters woyld be awesome.
