Danger Beekeeping 3: Cold Spring Splits

This is a risky (dangerous) proposition... Building up early to make early spring splits for sale and expansion. So far, my results have been mixed. I have had two of my splits fail because of chilled brood (hence the danger). It is fun to push the envelope, but not without its peril. Also, I did take about 5 stings in the course of this video. Bees fight against the early season intrusions, but I let them know who is boss. Of course, this week when mating flights begin, the weather is in the 50s, and overnights below freezing... the weather might actually be the boss.
