How is he soulless? Actually the most painful thing to think about when listening to this song is the people that were left behind. The living is the one suffering the most. Especially Levi. The burdens he have on his shoulders. Being Humanity's Strongest Soldier, he cannot show weakness in front of the soldiers, he is like their pillar of support. Their hope. If their hope were to break down, the soldiers will lose their morale and due to that, Levi have to keep it all in and suffer quietly probably crying in his room, when no one is looking. He has no one to turn to because he is the strongest. It's a BIG BIG burden on him. This is why I respect Levi so damn much! He's so damaged now but he have to be strong for the rest of the soldiers. I am literally crying right now. This definitely is Levi's theme. "Nobody should have to die that fast." This applies to everyone that has died for Humanity, not just Petra. I feel like Levi is sort of singing his sorrows out.

I say So Ist Es Immer is Levi's theme. The Reluctant Heroes is the Scout Regiment theme. This song can go with the entire Scout Regiment. They all had to leave the walls, outside the gate, and they all had to go through fear and they lost so many people around them. Friends, family, and comrades. I can see why people say this is Levi's theme. Because he didn't want to join the Scout Regiment, but he did so he wouldn't get arrested by the Military Police. But, I still think this is the entire Scout Regiment theme.
***** I've seen it, but i don't think it's specifically meant for a certain character. It's more of a universal song that is based off the decisions the characters must make, the way characters are kinda forced to become heroes when they never wanted to in the first place, the soldiers who sacrificed themselves for humanity, and the heartbreaking moments of when characters lose their loved ones (which explains why the melody version played when they were gathering corpses of the soldiers killed by the female titan.)

(SPOILER ALERT FOR SEASON 1!) When I listened to this song in the anime, it just seemed like a badass song. And then when I listened to this cover, I realized that this song isn't about fighting and action. It's about Petra. He's singing about how she died and remembering their life together as well as thinking of how they were supposed to be married. I think it's just generally about how every single character in this series can die at the drop of a hat. I think this song could also be any character remembering someone who has already died. Or both.
A good speculation :3 But my opinion is that Petra and Levi weren't actually together but that Petra had a deep admiration for Levi. (I'm not sure if there were romantic feelings but she obviously respected him to a far extent). And I also think that during the scene they came back, Petra's father was actually telling Levi that he thinks that Petra is too young to marry but he would like her to.

Haven't seen/read AoT (I'm too faint of heart :P), but every once in awhile I'll stumble across things like this that really make me wish I could. This is utterly beautiful; I went and checked out the original afterward and this is waaaaayyyy better. If it can make me want to cry without knowing the story, I'd say it's pretty powerful.

Okay, please don't think I'm a heartless person but this is just the truth, please stop talking about Petra and Levi and or anything similar. First of all Petra wasn't even a side character, her being had almost no importance, Levi is a side character even he doesn't carry any major importance not to talk about Petra, it doesn't matter how much you hate Eren but he is the /main protagonist/ he is the most important person. Petra's only duty was the bite mark on her hand, in other words her death and all of the deaths of Team Levi only served its purpose so that Eren can develop himself as a character, it's called character development (obviously). Don't talk about romances in this anime, the writer clearly said there will be no romances in this manga/anime, think what you want but Attack on Titan is a deep anime and I'm pretty sure it focuses on some more important factors to which everyone can or at least should relate like motherly love and similar things. This song, just don't relate it to Petra because it isn't nor about Levi. If you want a romance anime go watch Sword Art Online.
True but it's nice to widen the horizon of the stories we love. The whole Petra x Levi thing isn't very convincing, but it's a nice thought. And I'm pretty sure we all remember this song from the moment where they're preparing to move out after collecting the dead bodies of the Levi squad.
I was in Paris during the Paris terror attacks and even though I didn't loose anyone from my friends or relatives I felt so sad and this song really fits to my mood and my feelings at that time. It's lyrics are of a rare depth and this cover is very moving as well.
Guys, people say this is the "LeviXPetra theme" RANT IN 321 IT FUCKING ISNT. THIS IS THE LEVI, FARLAN, AND ISABEL THEME. OKAY!? Technically its not a theme, its used multiple times in the series, mainly around Levi. so if anything its just a Levi theme. But because its just a slowed down piano version of Reluctant heroes it isn't exactly a specific theme.

I rarely ever comment on things, but I just have to say how amazing this is. It's so beautiful, and so sad. The lyrics are tweaked to make it flow perfectly, your voice is amazing, the harmony and the style really come together to create something so beautiful, yet so heartbreaking. I'm sitting here crying my eyes out, tears of joy because this is the most amazing thing I've ever heard and tears of sadness because it stirs all the grief within my heart from watching and reading Attack on Titan, I don't know how to put it into words but this is just perfect in so many ways.
Listening just made me remember all of those horrified faces of the soldiers in AOT that we're terrified to die for a second before they charged into battle, or right before they get eaten. But then they remember that they would die for their loved ones. That they will die for their duty. For how much they put their heart into being a soldier to save "humanity." And it's so beautiful and sad. Because soooooooooooooo many soldiers had died and it scares me to imagine the pile of people that they lost in battle.

Has anybody thought that when Levi passed the Titan in the OVA, that Isabel and Farlan must've thought he died? I mean it makes sense. Just blurting out random theories.
How... many? How many of us have been murdered by the titans? I was at Trost, when it was attacked. I graduated from the 104th Trainee Squad. All of us were so proud that we made it out of our training. And we believed that we were ready for the titans! I really didn't care that I had only made it into the Garrison; hey, I was still in the top 20 of the class! That meant I was pretty good. I believed that we were ready for the next time the titans attacked. I was assigned my own squad. I had only met my squad mates a couple times before. I'm horrible with names. We were assigned to the right side, more or less near the center. Near where the refill stations were. Even though we really didn't know each other well, I talked to them as if we had been friends forever. I said things like "Hey, we have a contingency plan! we all will be fine. I know it." I was lying through my teeth.... We were... standing on a rooftop... We were assigned to keep titans away for the refill stations by leading them away until more experienced members of the Garrison arrived to kill the titans. I was only our first time. It was a 30 meter class. It was just walking, following us. We were jumping across rooftops, when suddenly, two 10 meter class abnormals jumped up, and ate 2 of my comrades. 1 was immediately swallowed whole. The other titan, it was a black haired titan with one eye about the size of an average human head, and the other about the size of a torso. When it bit one of my squad mates, it was the girl of the squad- she actually had graduated with a higher place than I did- it just held he there, in its mouth. Her top half was sticking out of the titans mouth. As it looked up at me. I jumped off the roof trying to kill it, before it could kill her. As I was falling, my blades ready, with only the thought to save my friend in mind, it was so clear. It felt like time was moving in slow motion. I saw the look in her eyes: they were a deep chestnut brown, and I remember from training, they would always sparkle when she saw us trainee's succeed at the task at hand. She would also tilt her head slightly to the bottom-right. Sometimes, she would even close her eyes and smile too. She only did that when she was really impressed. I thought she was really cute at those times. Now, there were tears in her eyes. She was fighting the tears back. We made eye contact; her beautiful chestnut eyes gave that sparkle, and she also gave that cute head tilt, as if to say "Good job." She opened her eyes, the tears blinked away, but you could still see the fear. After a second, it faded away. My heart beated faster. As I looked into her eyes, I felt as though she was trying to tell me "Congrats, Dun! You a soldier now. I can see that look in your eyes. It's vicious. You won't hesitate like the rest of us, when it comes to fighting titans. I'm guessing it's my time now, but I'm happy to see that, like that Suicidal Bastard, someone is going to make the titans pay. I'm glad to have know you." As time speed up again to normal speed. She was slurped up like a child eating noodles. As she went deep in to the titan's mouth, I looked one more time at her eyes, and they said "Make them pay." My grip on my blades faltered as I was descending to strike the titans nape. I actually landed on the abnormal's shoulder. I jumped away, and began to flee the abnormal. I got back on the roof. My other two squad mates were missing. They had just vanished. After a moment of wondering what to do. I remember what her eyes had said, "Make them pay." I had never gripped my two blades as hard as that moment. Recklessly, I jumped back down for a second try at the abnormal's nape. He jumped up, but seemingly instinctively, I gas bust down towards him, and I ran both of my blades through both of its eyes. I disconnected the blades that were in its eyes, and as we both fell to the ground, I reloaded my handles with a fresh set of blades. As it writhed in pain, to my enjoyment. I ended it quickly. In one clean slash, I slashed its nape clean off, getting blood all over the bottom half of my body. It was my first kill, and I should have felt joyful, but with the image of her entering the titan's mouth, there just was no way I could celebrate. I didn't encounter anymore titan's that day. I try to live my life with no regrets, but the one regret I had that day was not knowing her name. Her name, and the name of my other squad mates. The bodies of the two squad mates that disappeared were never found: they were listed off as MIA. I joined the Survey Corps. There were only 21 of us that joined up; I'm not surprised that so few joined after experiencing that nightmare. With one thought in my mind, I no longer look back, even as I see other brothers and sisters die in front of me. Looking back, wont bring them back to life. They are dead, and I have to accept it, and just keep moving forward. As, I see my family die, one though comes to mind "Make them pay." In my mind, I always see that look in her eyes, even though in reality, im looking into the eyes of someone else. The thing is, if there is a body left, no matter how smashed and destroyed, I always see their eyes saying "Make them pay." And that is what I intended to do. I could never bring myself as far as that Suicidal Bastard Eren Jaeger to want to exterminate the titans. As it is, I joined the military in order to sacrifice myself in the place of someone else. I would think "If I fought and died, and someone else lived instead, that's worth it." But now, its not only that. Now I fight to fight and die, and to stay alive to avenge all of my fallen brothers and sister who were murdered by the hands of the titans. I'm going to make them pay.

This song always brings me to tears, and I remember the first time I played this video, I actually saluted at the end because it was so beautiful (yes, I know how sad that sounds.) It's always that one line: I wanna be brave like you. Levi doesn't see himself as brave, his doesn't see himself as a badass, he sees his skills as dumb luck, and himself as a useless random person, who doesn't deserve to have lived this long when so many other have died. I can see why people say this is Levi's theme. Because he didn't want to join the Scout Regiment, but he did so he wouldn't get arrested by the Military Police. But, I still think this is the entire Scout Regiment theme.

It's more of a universal song that is based off the decisions the characters must make, the way characters are kinda forced to become heroes when they never wanted to in the first place, the soldiers who sacrificed themselves for humanity, and the heartbreaking moments of when characters lose their loved ones (which explains why the melody version played when they were gathering corpses of the soldiers killed by the female titan.)

(SPOILER ALERT FOR SEASON 1!) When I listened to this song in the anime, it just seemed like a badass song. And then when I listened to this cover, I realized that this song isn't about fighting and action. It's about Petra. He's singing about how she died and remembering their life together as well as thinking of how they were supposed to be married. I mean, think about it:

I think it's just generally about how every single character in this series can die at the drop of a hat. I think this song could also be any character remembering someone who has already died. Or both.
A good speculation :3 But my opinion is that Petra and Levi weren't actually together but that Petra had a deep admiration for Levi. (I'm not sure if there were romantic feelings but she obviously respected him to a far extent). And I also think that during the scene they came back, Petra's father was actually telling Levi that he thinks that Petra is too young to marry but he would like her to.

Okay, please don't think I'm a heartless person but this is just the truth, please stop talking about Petra and Levi and or anything similar. First of all Petra wasn't even a side character, her being had almost no importance, Levi is a side character even he doesn't carry any major importance not to talk about Petra, it doesn't matter how much you hate Eren but he is the /main protagonist/ he is the most important person. Petra's only duty was the bite mark on her hand, in other words her death and all of the deaths of Team Levi only served its purpose so that Eren can develop himself as a character, it's called character development (obviously). Don't talk about romances in this anime, the writer clearly said there will be no romances in this manga/anime, think what you want but Attack on Titan is a deep anime and I'm pretty sure it focuses on some more important factors to which everyone can or at least should relate like motherly love and similar things. This song, just don't relate it to Petra because it isn't nor about Levi. If you want a romance anime go watch Sword Art Online.

I was in Paris during the Paris terror attacks and even though I didn't loose anyone from my friends or relatives I felt so sad and this song really fits to my mood and my feelings at that time. It's lyrics are of a rare depth and this cover is very moving as well.

I rarely ever comment on things, but I just have to say how amazing this is. It's so beautiful, and so sad. The lyrics are tweaked to make it flow perfectly, your voice is amazing, the harmony and the style really come together to create something so beautiful, yet so heartbreaking. Listening just made me remember all of those horrified faces of the soldiers in AOT that we're terrified to die for a second before they charged into battle, or right before they get eaten. But then they remember that they would die for their loved ones. That they will die for their duty. For how much they put their heart into being a soldier to save "humanity." And it's so beautiful and sad. Because soooooooooooooo many soldiers had died and it scares me to imagine the pile of people that they lost in battle.

How... many? How many of us have been murdered by the titans? I was at Trost, when it was attacked. I graduated from the 104th Trainee Squad. All of us were so proud that we made it out of our training. And we believed that we were ready for the titans! I really didn't care that I had only made it into the Garrison; hey, I was still in the top 20 of the class! That meant I was pretty good. I believed that we were ready for the next time the titans attacked. I was assigned my own squad. I had only met my squad mates a couple times before. I'm horrible with names. We were assigned to the right side, more or less near the center. Near where the refill stations were. Even though we really didn't know each other well, I talked to them as if we had been friends forever. I said things like "Hey, we have a contingency plan! we all will be fine. I know it." I was lying through my teeth.... We were... standing on a rooftop... We were assigned to keep titans away for the refill stations by leading them away until more experienced members of the Garrison arrived to kill the titans. I was only our first time. It was a 30 meter class. It was just walking, following us. We were jumping across rooftops, when suddenly, two 10 meter class abnormals jumped up, and ate 2 of my comrades. 1 was immediately swallowed whole. The other titan, it was a black haired titan with one eye about the size of an average human head, and the other about the size of a torso. When it bit one of my squad mates, it was the girl of the squad- she actually had graduated with a higher place than I did- it just held he there, in its mouth. Her top half was sticking out of the titans mouth. As it looked up at me. I jumped off the roof trying to kill it, before it could kill her. As I was falling, my blades ready, with only the thought to save my friend in mind, it was so clear. It felt like time was moving in slow motion. I saw the look in her eyes: they were a deep chestnut brown, and I remember from training, they would always sparkle when she saw us trainee's succeed at the task at hand. She would also tilt her head slightly to the bottom-right. Sometimes, she would even close her eyes and smile too. She only did that when she was really impressed. I thought she was really cute at those times. Now, there were tears in her eyes. She was fighting the tears back. We made eye contact; her beautiful chestnut eyes gave that sparkle, and she also gave that cute head tilt, as if to say "Good job." She opened her eyes, the tears blinked away, but you could still see the fear. After a second, it faded away. My heart beated faster. As I looked into her eyes, I felt as though she was trying to tell me "Congrats, Dun! You a soldier now. I can see that look in your eyes. It's vicious. You won't hesitate like the rest of us, when it comes to fighting titans. I'm guessing it's my time now, but I'm happy to see that, like that Suicidal Bastard, someone is going to make the titans pay. I'm glad to have know you." As time speed up again to normal speed. She was slurped up like a child eating noodles. As she went deep in to the titan's mouth, I looked one more time at her eyes, and they said "Make them pay." My grip on my blades faltered as I was descending to strike the titans nape. I actually landed on the abnormal's shoulder. I jumped away, and began to flee the abnormal. I got back on the roof. My other two squad mates were missing. They had just vanished. After a moment of wondering what to do. I remember what her eyes had said, "Make them pay." I had never gripped my two blades as hard as that moment. Recklessly, I jumped back down for a second try at the abnormal's nape. He jumped up, but seemingly instinctively, I gas bust down towards him, and I ran both of my blades through both of its eyes. I disconnected the blades that were in its eyes, and as we both fell to the ground, I reloaded my handles with a fresh set of blades. As it writhed in pain, to my enjoyment. I ended it quickly. In one clean slash, I slashed its nape clean off, getting blood all over the bottom half of my body. It was my first kill, and I should have felt joyful, but with the image of her entering the titan's mouth, there just was no way I could celebrate. I didn't encounter anymore titan's that day. I try to live my life with no regrets, but the one regret I had that day was not knowing her name. Her name, and the name of my other squad mates. The bodies of the two squad mates that disappeared were never found: they were listed off as MIA.
I joined the Survey Corps. There were only 21 of us that joined up; I'm not surprised that so few joined after experiencing that nightmare. With one thought in my mind, I no longer look back, even as I see other brothers and sisters die in front of me. Looking back, wont bring them back to life. They are dead, and I have to accept it, and just keep moving forward. As, I see my family die, one though comes to mind "Make them pay." In my mind, I always see that look in her eyes, even though in reality, im looking into the eyes of someone else. The thing is, if there is a body left, no matter how smashed and destroyed, I always see their eyes saying "Make them pay." And that is what I intended to do.
I could never bring myself as far as that Suicidal Bastard Eren Jaeger to want to exterminate the titans. As it is, I joined the military in order to sacrifice myself in the place of someone else. I would think "If I fought and died, and someone else lived instead, that's worth it." But now, its not only that. Now I fight to fight and die, and to stay alive to avenge all of my fallen brothers and sister who were murdered by the hands of the titans. I'm going to make them pay.

Huh, strong pills for what? U referring to Post Traumatic Stress? Nah, I don't have that, I just don't get dreams at night. I guess that means I'm better off than most others who have faced the titans.
Reminds me- we should give some PTSD pills to Daz. He's the one who needs them.
This song always brings me to tears, and I remember the first time I played this video, I actually saluted at the end because it was so beautiful (yes, I know how sad that sounds.) It's always that one line: I wanna be brave like you. Levi doesn't see himself as brave, his doesn't see himself as a badass, he sees his skills as dumb luck, and himself as a useless random person, who doesn't deserve to have lived this long when so many other have died. Heichou!!!
