Honestly my fav Simic Hybrid I've don was actually a Blood Hunter. Did the mutant one and portrayed my character as a homunculus who was just constantly changing and experimenting with himself. Lots of fun.
@@Nerdarchy Exactly my reasoning, and my animal upgrades would be the climbing speed due to having dragon claw like hands and the carapace due to the scales on him.
Vedelken would also make really good arcane tricksters with the intelligence bonus and slight of hand boost. Would make for a cool arcane spy or spec-ops character. Eddit: autocorrect... my old foe... we meet again.
The Simic hybrid seems a bit underwhelming It’s such an amazing concept but it just feels shallow. I feel like they could’ve done a whole table of different chimera ideas.
it`s great when you reflavour some subclasses to be additional mutations for your hybrid. black dragon sorcerer is cool with acid spit and manta wings, or you could try these same mutations with totem barbarians' eagle flight, or bear totem resistance + extra appendages and water breathing for killer grapples. The capstone ability of barbarians is also fun with the acid spit since it gives it 2 extra uses. Warlocks with tentacles are always a win too, specially great old one. The one I find least interesting (while being not bad of a boost tbh) is the AC bonus from carapace. It's not as combo-y as the others maybe.
The simic is mechanically one of my favourite new races they've done for 5e. More choices would be great but I feel like they got a reasonable enough selection to come up with some fun characters. You have like 12 different ways you could build them with those animal enhancements with 2 enhancements that are totally unique to them. Aside from anything else if you compare them to their more mechanical counterparts, the warforged (who have no unique abilities and only have a couple of proficiencies as far as options go), they've come out much better off.
Been playing a Simic Hybrid Rouge Thief for the humor of taking Underwater Adaptation at level 1, gaining a climb speed as a Thief at level 3, then taking Manta Glide at level 5. You are allowed to take another 1st level option at level 5 as a Simic. With these three things and as a Rouge, exploration is cranked to the max!
Just rolled a Vedalken Rogue: Mastermind for a right-hand to a king. Be the perfectionist that they are with all those proficiencies and expertise lend to quite the diplomat. Used a Sage background.
I had an idea for a sailor/ pirate background simic hybrid storm barbarian which I love. They end up as part of a ship crew they believe are traders but, one night when the lightning from a thunderstorm illuminates the carnage around them, they realise they were tricked and have been helping vicious pirates to murder and steal. Their anger at this betrayal and the realisation they have unknowingly done such evil fuels their rages and they view the lightning almost as a deity for having shown them the truth.
I made a Simic Hybrid Artificer. He is a Mad Scientist that insists on body modifications being the next step of evolution. Story wise he's an elf that took science WAY too far and became the monstrosity he is today.

I think a natural choice for the Simic Hybrid would be Barbarian. Put your extra point in dexterity, and choose the racial adjustment that lets you add 1 to AC. I made a Dex Based Battlemaster/Bear Totem that took Dueling combat Style and used a Rapier and Shield. Not optimised as a big damage dealer, but had a great AC and the ability to focus aggro on himself...
it really annoyed me that in the description of simic hybrids it spoke of a whole bunch of useful augmentations but then the choices are so limited. it even mentions some have translucent or camouflaged skin and then it doesn't expand on it

Mmm Simic Hybrid Artificer Alchemist sounds exactly like the mad scientist of Simic would be...however battle smiths would allow you mechanical dolphins/sharks as your buddy.
why can't you be a vedalkan simic hybrid? lorewise it makes sense but i want to play a simic hybrid vedalkan artificer, but i need the stats of the characteristics of the vedalkan to make it work
Well depending on how you rule the extra limbs, the simic hybrids would make great monks. RAW they would basically get to make 4 unarmed strikes per turn. right fist, left fist, (dual wield attack) right tentacle, left tentacle (Each appendage can make an unarmed strike according to the book). Plus an additional attack at level 5. Idk if they would still get to use flurry of blows but even without it that's still more attacks than most pc's get in a turn and unlike the flurry of blows, it costs nothing. So action economy alone supports that as the best use of the simic hybrid. But like I said, that depends on how the dm rules the appendages work. Some dm's don't like RAW.
You don't gain extra attacks just for having extra limbs. The appendages allow you to grapple which is a special ability in the action economy. You can't make extra unarmed strikes
RAW you aren't two weapon fighting with fists, because two weapon fighting requires weapons. You get 1 from the attack action, 1 extra at lvl 5, and 1 bonus action attack or flurry of blows. If you wield two weapons you lose the bonus action, which requires a free hand. The rules are designed to prevent exactly this kind of interpretation. The appendages say they can be used to make unarmed strikes, it doesn't say they give you extra attacks or modify the attack action in any way.

Mix Simic Hybrid with the UA Sorcerer and some warlock to make a ooze master of Jubilex.

Simic hybrid archer: take climbing speed at 1st level and grappling appendages at 5th and you can use a bow while hangin fron the wall
I think thematically for the Vedalken monk works well. They're focus on perfection just seem to be what a monk does to himself.
