Great question! It’s the “torque” setting, which is the turning power of the drill and allows you to control how much force is applied to turn the screw. 1 means low speed with high torque (high torque means more power which is best for driving screws into wood) 2 means high speed with low torque (low torque is best for drilling holes)
Honestly, we just keep ours on “2” and if it ever stops while drilling (rarely happens, only with super hard woods) then we change to “1”. Hope this helps! It’s a little hard to explain, that’s why we skipped it in the video 😂
My husband knew how to do EVERYTHING and I was always the helper. He passed away 15 years ago and I've wanted to do so much, but had no clue. Well Judeth, I'm in the same boat. I'm a 66 year old widow who can't find a handyman to save my soul. This video is definitely helpful. I did get a corded drill, because I didn't want to buy multiple batteries and when I get started on something I just want to work on it until it's done. Thanks for the helpful video. Not everyone knows how to use a cordless drill (I certainly do not!), but many people want to learn. This is helpful to those who want to learn. :)
"Righty tighty, lefty loosy" 😖😆 This is not the first time I heard this phrase. The first time I heard it was on this Reddit video where Surgeons where discussing what had happened when patients suddenly woke up in the middle of a surgery. One of them talked about this guy who woke up right while they were trying to screw on some surgical prosthetics on him using bolts? I can't really remember the specifics. But apparently the patient was something of a carpenter, he woke up, saw what they were doing, mumbled "righty tighty, lefty loosy" and then went right back to sleep. The phrase just reminds me of it now. Very useful phrase.
Glad I found your channel because you can never be to safe. I've been using a drill for years, I have 3, a hammer drill that I use to drill holes in stone pavers to build balloon poles. A cordless drill that I haven't used yet and a small cute lady drill for the small areas.
Oh my goodness thanks you guys ! I never use a drill before, I thought it’s so easy but when I’m get ready to make a rack, I found out I don’t know how to use it!!!
First of all, you two are super cute! Secondly, BLESSINGS to you both for this video! I've found so many pointless videos where people are reading the specs of the drill, as if we couldn't do that ourselves, rather than explaining how it's actually used! This was an AWESOME video and much-needed. Thank you, both!
Thank you so much for this!! I have projects in mind and literally am trying to figure out how to properly and safely use the tools first. Such a big help 🙏🏻🙌🏼💕
Wow thanks for this. I just bought a drill with the bits and never used a drill in my life. I’m also not a manual reading person-definitely more visual and hands on so this is very helpful and perfect! Thanks for breaking it down for us!
WOW, this video is wonderful and informative. I knew "NOTHING " about drills. Thank you so much for this educational & to the point video. As a woman, I look forward to your additional training videos.
Nice video and very educative! Very quickly...Can I remove the battery separately when not in use because I use it occasionally? Also what is the proper or best setting number of 17-1 or 15-1? I usually set the turque on 2 but don't know what to set the speed number. Thank you;
I've been using my drill for ages without understanding torque or what the "weird pipe" (chuck for screw bits) were. None of that is talked about in the manual that came with the drill. Thank you for explaining the basics.
Hi Guys, I'm a widow and never used anything but a hammer before so I was lost. I just bought a new Dewalt drill and some drill bits the salesman pointed out to me. When my chuck swallowed my chuck I thought I was missing a part. Thanks for the tutorial.

My old electric had a chuck. I was clueless LMAO. Thank you SO MUCH! I am a beginner so subsribed, you provide the value I need thanks.
Thanks, just bought a drill and I was certainly out in left field on it. The setting helped me greatly, I'm putting in a dial pad for my place, going Air BnB! Yay...I'm still like winging the right size screw cause the door seems to be quite hard...
Yeay thank you. I need to put curtains up around the house and I've never handled a drill. These will be great lil segments guys. Look forward to more on the different tools.😆🤗
Thank you sooooo much! I’ve bee using my drill but didn’t know what the settings meant. There are some line markings that I don’t know what to do with. My drill is a battery powered Ryobi 7.2V. If you can tell me what these are for - SUPER.! Enjoyed the video.
Now I see why I keep screwing up and feel like I'm missing something when I use my drill. Just realized that I don't have or see that chuck to put in my drill chuck 😅 so I've been using without it the entire time. Thanks for making this video, I appreciate it.❤️🙏
Yes please. Bits bits and more bits. I have no idea which ones to use. My husband recently died and I am afraid to use it. This video was great showed me how to load. Thx. Donna xoxo

AWESOME TUTORIAL AND THE BEST PART WAS, you used THE EXACT DRILL I HAVE,. I’m totally “new” to all of these DIY projects and usually don’t have the patience but vids like yours make things easier to complete the task correctly!
Thanks for the helpful video. Not everyone knows how to use a cordless drill (I certainly do not!), but many people want to learn. This is helpful to those who want to learn. :)
So happy it helped!
😂😂😂😂😂
THANK YOU!!!!!!! I just bought that exact drill with no idea how to use it lol NOW I'll be good to go!!
Your presentation was most informative and not theatrical. Sometimes RUclips videos are so annoying because of the theatrics. Great job 👏
Thank I bought a drill a year ago and never bothered to read the manual, thinking I can figure it out on my own. This helped a lot.
Glad I found your channel because you can never be to safe. I've been using a drill for years, I have 3, a hammer drill that I use to drill holes in stone pavers to build balloon poles. A cordless drill that I haven't used yet and a small cute lady drill for the small areas.
Yes just learned something today. Thanx a lot. It’s my first thing to use this equipment in my life.
Oh my goodness thanks you guys ! I never use a drill before, I thought it’s so easy but when I’m get ready to make a rack, I found out I don’t know how to use it!!!
Same... bought a beautiful powerful drill & haven't been able to insert 1 single screw on a simple lid holder!
What am I doing wrong, I wonder?!
@@pickledjalapeno9482 🙃 I can’t believe you were same as me! Check the arrow button, you may put it in a wrong dereliction.
Fantastic nice and clear but I seem to always need to pre drill a hike before I screw it in?
It helps so you don’t split the wood
Thanks!!! I couldn't get the chuck to open to take a bit out----realized I had tightened W A Y too much when I put the first bit in the chuck!!!
I’m so happy I found. This video I don’t know anything about how to used a drill and this video helped me so much . Thank you
WOW, this video is wonderful and informative. I knew "NOTHING " about drills. Thank you so much for this educational & to the point video. As a woman, I look forward to your additional training videos.
Im 55 and always have had disasters with a drill. i realy enjoyed your step by step aproch to the usage. great Video. PEACE
Thank you folks. You've helped me understand my new cordless drill.
Thank you for teaching what my dad couldnt
Thanks for taking it to a basic level and not assuming we already know.
I had wanted to know how to use a cordless/driver drill. Your video made it so easy to understand. Many thanks.
Superb , the best thing is when one of you missed something other one is correcting it !!! All the best ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
Girlfriend bought me a teccpo drillbit, you guys made it worth keeping. Thanks a lot
Nice video and very educative!
Very quickly...Can I remove the battery separately when not in use because I use it occasionally?
Also what is the proper or best setting number of 17-1 or 15-1?
I usually set the turque on 2 but don't know what to set the speed number.
Thank you;
Excellent and lucid film - thank you. I had been struggling to use my power drill until I watched this.
Thank you very much, I am building my first greenhouse, and its a megolithic 32 x 16 x 16 and Im down to the roofing and need to predrill holes in my polycarbonate and after months of building I realized, I have no idea how to change the drill bit on this one.
This was great.
Dunno if you already did one on the choice of bits and screws but I would love to see that.
Thanks so much for sharing the tutorial.
Thank you! Yes we do have a video on drill bits:

Thank you! I've been intimidated to use my new drill and you broke it down very nicely 😊 I feel like I know what I'm working with now
I like how simple you make it.
I learned more from this video than I did from watching other men explain it to me
Omg I love you 😂😂❤️❤️❤️❤️
Just got my first drill and needed this! Girl power 💪🏼👊🏼
Yeay thank you. I need to put curtains up around the house and I've never handled a drill. These will be great lil segments guys. Look forward to more on the different tools.😆🤗
Thanks, so much!!!! Have had to take over some home maintenance and have never had to do it before. Will be watching your other videos.
Thank you sooooo much! I’ve bee using my drill but didn’t know what the settings meant. There are some line markings that I don’t know what to do with. My drill is a battery powered Ryobi 7.2V. If you can tell me what these are for - SUPER.! Enjoyed the video.
Yes a video on drill bits please! This was very helpful.

Brill. I can now change the bits on drill while hubby at work lol
Now I need to know about all the bits of a drill
We have that video on our channel too!
Now I see why I keep screwing up and feel like I'm missing something when I use my drill. Just realized that I don't have or see that chuck to put in my drill chuck 😅 so I've been using without it the entire time. Thanks for making this video, I appreciate it.❤️🙏
Thank you! This was great, and yes, I would love to see one on the different drill and screw bits.

Didn't know about the chuck chuck, I gotta get the drill bit, but what about the other kind of bit, corkcrew bits, do they go in a chuck too?
Y’all!! Thank you SO much. I was struggling trying to understand my drill!
Just what I needed. My first drill . Thanks so much. Jigsaw next?
Great idea!
This was very helpful. I just bought a drill set myself and was feeling overwhelmed. Thank you so much 😅
As a 66 year old woman with a bad shoulder, I loved learning how to use my drill!
Yes please. Bits bits and more bits. I have no idea which ones to use. My husband recently died and I am afraid to use it. This video was great showed me how to load. Thx. Donna xoxo
