Hi can you please tell me the reason valves break on these engines? They get stuck and meet the piston or do they break due to wrong material temperatures? I have heard a few stories on these engines with valves ending broken, trying to figure out what is the cause
@WolfDog375 previous ownerhad never checked valve clearence in 5 years. Some people don't deserve a motorcycle
@@The666knives Thanks for the information. That's the problem with people, when they own a trouble free motorcycle/car, they treat it like: "It starts and drives, why do anything" which results in "Damn it failed on me after 5 years of riding"

How come the valves are wrecked, but the piston is intact?
The piston was already replaced by the previous owner.
@@restorationvalve ok, so the smashed valves did kill the piston. Wonder why he replaced the piston, but left the smashed valves?
@@gregbrowne8741 yup, the valves made it thru the piston, some of it was still left in the bottom of the engine block.
Getting a good head wasn’t easy or cheap for these pre-96 models.
The previous owner started to fix it, but then gave up and decided to sell it.
@@restorationvalve I have an interest because my 2007 stopped after losing compression on a run. It was my first run on the bike, thought the cam chain sounded loud, others weren't sure. About to pull the head.

FYI, the engines are different on the DR650 after 1996.
As soon as SE model came out, Suzuki updated and redesigned a lot of things on the engine.

Hey! Amazing restoration project! What product did you use to degrease/clean the engine block when you washed it?
At the start I used kerosene to clean it, followed by engine cleaned and then parts cleaner to finish it off.

Hi,
For this engine, I suspect that it was a lack of oil going to the valves. You can see in one of the engine videos that someone put on the right engine cover with too much sealant and blocked the oil passage, which caused the engine to overheat and the valve to break.

@@restorationvalve It will be that critical valve because it was mine that was shorted in my case, I am going to change the pump for a new one to prevent it from being is and I will try to check the lubrication conduits to the cover
Hey, I have the exact same bike. I can't seem to get the big nut off that holds the clutch plates (32mm). You give it a few hits, but here, the engine axle keeps spinning (the one the metal discs inbetween are on). Even in gear... what am I doing wrong or not seeing here?
Your help would be extremely valuable to me as I'm currently stuck on this problem.

Ha, nevermind. I stuck a small wrench in between the splines right between the cover and first clutch plate, blocking it from spinning.

The problem with them is they usually are loose, that's why they have a locking washer underneath them. Someone may have used Locktite in the past to secure it.
I usually use a decent size impact gun.
If that doesn't do the trick, you can hold the clutch basket with a special tool and use a breaker bar.

How many km had approximately this engine? I saw in another video that you use Motul 5000 10w40 - is it your preferable oil for the DR650?
The Speedo showed 56k, but it could have been more.
About the oil, the certificates matches up. The service manuals just shows to use SAE 10W40 SE or SF. Have been using it for some time, haven’t had any problems with it.

who ever had that engine before you needs to be flogged...
I wish you didn’t hammer those bearings out. With a few minutes in an oven they will just drop out.
