In fairness, it said "choice CIRCULATED" so to put the best construction on the intent, I'm guessing "choice" meant it was a semi key date...

As a dealer myself, that was not a "choice circulated" dime. It would be lucky to get a g4.
$40 for an incased cent is crazy high.
Also, classic commemoratives are tough when it comes to grading them. So if the strikes do appear as if they've been polished but haven't been. Go look up graded 1925 California commems, the strike on them can be weird.

Brother i got some change a few years ago from a machine that gave dollar coins all were the same president one was silver. Looked like they put the roll in the machine and i happend to.get that change. I didnt buy mine but it looks like it doesnt have the gold final coating so all edges look deeper than the gold one. Is this a raw coin? Ive never seen one before but i owm one and you posted about it so i wanted to.ask
There's no gold to start with. The gold color is from the mixture of metals.

I think i might have that coin and another form the same change. I can send you some Pictures. I thought it was plated but it looks like it's missing a layer. I'm not confident on my assumption that's why I wanted to ask someone I just hadn't seen this same subject mentioned anyoneware else.
I think I might shoot a lazer at it to see the contents it might be a quarter blank that got stuck in the bin. I researched manganeese gold and it doesn't make sense your theory does. About plating. but if it's stuck not cast and has quarter contents I would bet a blank was stuck in the bin. It's a weird one but I trust my own memory on how I got it and I kept it uncirculated with minimal scratches. I'll let you know brother I had it stored but this video revived my interest.
