Tony, watching your channel is like going to Costco...everytime I watch I discover new tools that I didn't even know that I *need*! I bought a bigger tool roll-away just to accomodate my rapidly growing collection! Thank you for all of the input. It really does help the weekend warrior/DIY guys like myself to get some decent stuff without breaking the bank
I've got almost all the Icon regular style pliers and the pliers wrench now. They're an excellent mid-teir brand. I just check when i buy that the jaws and tips line up, and for no play in the joint. I hardly ever find amy with those things. I just always check from habit. I've used discounts and sales to buy most of them. Paid about $15 per pair except for the pliers wrench. They've actually held up great so far and have performed well.
3:45 - The long reach hose grip pliers are also great for pulling spark plug wire boots off of the plugs with out ruining them. When I worked at a dealership, one of the guys cut a couple hours off a fuel injector replacement with these. It kept them from having to remove the upper intake manifold.
Great stuff Tony. I have said it before in your comment sections, but I was a professional marine (boat) mechanic for over 25 years. I had all of the Tool Truck brands, and for good reason. I needed them. When I retired, I sold my entire stash. But, I still have my home shop and I work on all of my own equipment. Your opening comments about guys buying 12-dollar plier sets and then bitching about them not being "quality" is dead-on. Do I think (know) that HF is straight-up copying other brands? Yes, I do. But they have a great business model. And they sell adequate tools for the every day person.
I really enjoy your videos. Do you have a video where you recommend what types of pliers you might need for automotive work? Or what each type does? I get analysis paralysis when it comes to pliers and just end up using a really rusted old one for most of my above engine work.
@alexpolicht9332 Amazon. About a week ago I don't know if they're at the same price. The large ones were listed at 65 between you look at the price down below I found it far cheaper. Good luck...
On the SK's point, I feel the same on craftsman. I'm so used to go into sears and the guy grabs a replacement ratchet with me just raising it as walk in. If they hadn't changed the look, I'd maybe still buy em. Grew up with em, but trying every comparably priced 3/8" ratchet. Next will be an Eastwood locking flex head. I made the mistake of ordering another brands non locking, and frustrated. Working around trans bell housing, just getting accustomed to using 24" extensions, wobbles, and impact more and more. Extended head battery ratchet has changed my world. Even the Walmart one.
Hello again, Tony Thank you for another Great Video 👍 I enjoyed watching tonight's video. Flush cuts pliers are important. I have the scars to prove it. Again thank you 👌
I have a lot of icon pliers. Hose removal, long reach, slip joint, side cuts. Love them all when you get a great sale price on them. However, the regular needle nose were crap for me. Maybe a bad batch idk. But the tips did not hold up. Seemed too soft of material. Overall, love the icon and doyle pliers!
10 dollars more and klein has a version of the pliers wrench. It's big difference is the sliding jaw is reversible with a smooth side, and a pipe side. Works great.
No is doesn't, having one flat jaw and one curved jaw with fairly blunt teeth just slips and slides and chews up round pipe or stock. Try it for yourself, then try some Original Cobras 🐍 it's a night and day difference.
@@TonyTheTechnician It's just frustrating how they budget advertising the store brand products rather then keeping it simple, and the old reliable 1 item 20% off coupon . Makes people research, amazon, etc more often. They were also the first to escalate retail inflation, justifying it with 2020 global supply chains fears.
It is their business model. They are not a publicly traded company, therefore, there is only the family making profits juxtaposed to a gaggle of investors. That is why we are able to get the best quality/value from Harbor Freight; and they are able to pay their employees well.
Ive been disapointed by some of my Icon pliers and i dont buy the pittsburgs but those snapon 3 position knockoffs are incredible. I bought them to keep in the car kit but i liked them so much i puttem in the box lol. I also find the Doyles way nicer than the quins and weirdly seem to have the best steel out of any HF pliers lol, but for the money id go Tsonuda 🤷♂️ for beater pliers the doyles are great tho.
I can't believe that you did not highlight (1) the Doyle LINESMAN (which is very very very good), and (2) the simple, and very affordable, locking clamps (read: forceps).
Like i said i couldn't go over all of them bc the video would have been to long so we stuck to the more popular styles of pliers. If you would like another video like this i would be happy to include some other styles.

Thank you and I really appreciate it. Really glad you enjoy!! 👍
Thanks, Tony. Those hose pliers are an amazing deal. So useful for so many uses and what an amazing price.
Agreed. Thank you!!!

Very nice and ya that's a good habit to have. Always great when you can catch them on sale or use a coupon. 👍 thanks for sharing your thoughts

Absolutely I have also used them for that. Thanks for sharing!!
Glad you mentioned using the long reach hose pliers for some electrical connectors. They have been a life saver on some jobs.
Thank you and I completely agree!!
Great stuff Tony.

Thank you and yes i agree it's a genius business model for sure. Thanks for sharing your thoughts. I always appreciate your input
I carry the icon slip joint pliers on my hip everyday. Won’t buy anything else now! Love them
Nice. Glad to hear you enjoy them.
All those pliers are great but I'm still waiting for the Icon slip joint needle nose pliers 😞 but I have hope that I will get them soonish.

I just scored the extra small twin grip Knipex for $26 and $35 for the extra large twin grip. The extra large have the comfort grip handle as well.
Where?

Agreed. I grew up with alot of the Craftsman stuff from sears. I know exactly what you mean
Hello again, Tony

Hahahah 100% agreed. Thank you!!

Yes i have seen those. Glad you are happy with them. Thanks for sharing

@aussiehardwood6196 works great for my purposes. I use a pipe wrench for anything more.
HF is a value proposition. Great warranty and designed for the DIY guy. In my opinion. In regard to copy, HF many times utilized expired patents.
Yes indeed. It's a good business plan to draw in those that want the expensive design tools at a cheaper price.

Knipex isn’t that much more money so I’d rather get the real deal from knipex. But the snap on knock offs I understand. Snap on is way more expensive
Agreed!!
I have the icon flushcuts. Otherwise i am a knipex addict.
Nice and ya same here lol
The long reach hose pliers are kept in the automotive aisle, not the pliers aisle.maybe that's why you haven't seen them.
That may be why. That's a good point!!
@TonyTheTechnician the only reason I know is bc I couldn't find them either and had to ask someone who worked there

I’m waiting for Icon to rip off the long nose talon grip from Snap-On
