Fun fact: Jeju “dialect” is not actually a dialect of Korean but one of the fastest disappearing languages in the world. Not sure how many people still speak it in public. I went there back in 2003 and couldn’t understand people there but now….
The island people in ancient times used to be known as “Tamna” and they had their own distinct culture along with their own language. Koreans took them over. In the 1950s jeju wanted to separate from South Korea and join North Korea, the South Korean president Rhee squashed the rebellion with a massacre.
