God damn i love the clash.
Greatest band on earth !!
Joe Strummer R.I.P.
5.42..'A hotel, a hotel, my kingdom for a hotel' The Clash do Shakespeare love it!!
I saw em in 82. Fuck, I wish I saw this show too. The top, nothing but the TOP.
Same here. First time to see this. It's still a surprise to see and sense that Joe (not excluding Mick or Paul) REALLY, REALLY believes in his faith and of faith through music.
Raw-clash- love it !!!
6:52 pauls pleck comes flying outta his hand he checks his pocket for a new 1, doesnt have 1 so just continues playing without it. Fucking great!!!
True Punk Rock was started by the American Black Man, who's art fed everyone from Elvis to The Stones to The Clash. Without jazz and the Blues, there'd be no rock music, let alone punk rock.
THE GREATEST BAND EVER !!! R.I.P JOE
If "Johathan Richman and The Modern Lovers" is a psuedonym for "The Ramones", you're dead on, dude.
yeah it always went back and forth across the atlantic
that was real punk... I love it...
The Damned are AMAZING, and I've seen them, but the Ramones were around before The Damned, The Clash, and the Sex Pistols got big.
"Punk" started with the New York Dolls and the NY scene more than anywhere else. The Damned just released the first record of any English punk band.
They do kick ass though. Especially live.
Black Flag, Stooges, New york Dolls, MC5, also
Fuckin' great ! True anger mixed with Rock n Roll...and ya got The BOMB !
God. Regardless of what people say about punk. It takes a lot of skill to be able to jerk your instrument around like Joe did and still hit the notes dead-on.
this was recorded on a gig in Germany if i remember right...
I wouldn't use the words you use but I've also heared from somewhere that he was kind of hard to work with.. though he is still awesome so why even wonder? He will allways be the best(:
Actually, Jonathan Richman and The Modern Lovers started punk rock in the US.
Yeah. I get what your saying.
Watch the Ramones doc. End of the Century though. It says in there (And I think Joe Strummer is interviewed about it) that The Clash, and the Pistols were at one of the first Ramones concerts in London before they were the Clash or the Sex Pistols.
I don't wanna get into an arguement or anything, just wanted to spread the word.
And yeah, the New York thing wasn't much of a "movement" per se, until the British band were starting to get up too.
Actually... punk REALLY started with The Ramones in New York. Some might say it even went back as far back as The New York Dolls. Also, punk died a long time before Blink 182 and Green Day because they were in the early to mid-90's. And Green Day wasn't always a commercial band... Strummer himself said he liked them. Punk died when The Clash broke up in 1982 (I'm talking about when Topper was kicked out because that was really the beginning of the end).
they had agirl called alex make alot of their clobber
punk started with The Damned
@JoeStrummerMay1976 Totally agree. The Clash rules. But remember, the Pistols were also pure image. Selling rebel-fashion-image. Not at the same level as GreenDay though (luckily).
Don`t be daft, the who were mads
Does everyone forget the Stooges? New York Dolls? Ramones? MC5? Pretty sure they predated The London Scene...
the who were mods ya wally
You know the clash community on youtube is HUGE, i mean its not as big as say Ray william Johnson, but unlike them we r united...kinda
im forming a band wiv a few of me m8s n we r all hugely inspired by the clash-i really just love joe to death. ill message u the myspace!
It's the same in Boston pal. Love those boys, fu(kin love em, but THEY HAVE NOT EVER HAD TO WORK. I am a single dad. I was a punk, married a skinhead girl, and raised my kid by myself. Thats even harder than collecting stamps. P.S. I wasn't born in any 1993 either. I am 40 years old and I lived it when it was real.
30 secons later paul has a pleck again? hahha
How about Ramones and Nofx with US punk?
Nope. See "Road Runner", "I was dancing in a lesbian bar", and other songs by The Modern Lovers for back-up on this. Ramones come in a close 2nd...
By the time they played the Palladium they had lost alot of their fury. I loved them but Jones should've lost the phase shifter for that gig.
@JoeStrummerMay1976 what about the ramones?
Let's just say punk music was born in the us and punk movement in the uk.
Is that right?
Joe Strummer said it himself that Mick was a spoilt child.
Ok, pay attention for the geography lesson: Boston is a city of 550,000 people. London has 7.5 million. Boston is a CITY NOT A STATE. Joe Strummer was raised by nannies in Ankara. So what? Does that invalidate his music? Hardly.
not to mention fingernails and he had abig muscle on his wrist from holding the strings down
keen ear, what's the song? it sounds like one off of cry tough dub
does anyone know the song that guys are listening to while theyre being interviewed?
I Don't think anybody will go for that? Try again.
best group but not solid working class toppers dad was a headmaster
I've met the man, and he's actually a very intelligent and cultured man now I'll have you know. You are judging someone who was 20 in the punk era and probably fairly off his face at the time of the interview, so i think your judgement is most unfair really.
Actually what I meant was, would you explain what you meant by "minor threat"
Please explain.
The New york bands (ny dolls etc) was just aggressive glam metal....punk was started by the SEX PISTOLS.....but the CLASH were the best band of the scene.
Anyone who thinks GREEN DAY etc are punk..well...lets all snigger...
that cos he was spoilt by his gran
lets not mention modern punk so much other than NOFX i guess if you consider them "modern"
No kiddin eh?What a madman! And people use sandpaper to get a telecaster to look like joes!
Christ!try playing it like joe did.Put 40 yrs on it i 1 yr
Jokes are supposed to be funny.
And no I'm not ten, I don't even see why you're askin' me that question.
And you know, I'm not that stupid, I know Joe Strummer was someone great. And he'll always be, it's not you who's going to learn me that.
Yeah he was...but he turned out to be a great guitar player, so who cares?^^
speed much?
one group or artist cant invent a genre
woah woah listen here boy-o i fucking love the clash i just love everything that joe strummer has been in since the 101'ers to the mescaleros. green day is shit.. and the UK had created punk but the US make punk better and made it badder you cant get bands like Minor Threat, or Black Flag, or Bad Brains in the UK the shit that the US created wasnt just punk rock it was Hardcore punk! a whole seperate scene from 80's punk
Mick really was a spoiled child, wasn't he?
