One of my favourite all time footballers . Malcolm Macdonald. I was 11 in 1971 and remember when he joined my team Newcastle . Whenever I played footy on my own or in a park I was Macdonald.

I still remember when he left Newcastle, I was gutted. As a young Toon fan he was my first Newcastle hero.

I remember in the 70s I had never heard of SuperMac starting his career at Fulham and Luton when he was banging them in for Newcastle and was really surprised to hear he is a Londoner who was born & bred in Fulham and wasn`t a Geordie at all.

I adored Supermac in my early teens.
It broke my heart when he was sold to Arsenal.

Regrettably that's more of a wish than a fact. Evidently injury towards end of 1978 put paid to any legendary status.

This Gentleman was the single most reason why I wanted to become a football player, simply because I watched him score FIVE goals for England vs Cyprus, and one of the goals he actually roofed a header, the complete striker he had everything left foot, right foot, great in the air and pace to burn, the problem is NO ONE today in England or on the planet, bar Christiano had his ability....brilliant🙂🙂🙂🙂🙂

Apparently, when the team went back to the dressing room after the Cyprus match, Revie congratulated every England player except Macdonald (Mac's own words). Typical Supermac performance, typical Revie attitude. Alan Ball was a great man-manager.
