Absolutely brilliant, now I have to find part 1. Thanks for all the hard work you must have put in to create this.

    Very interesting!
    Love what you’ve done!
My Grand Parents live where the supermarket is today, back of Strand Street, I think it’s now a Shoprite store.
I believe it was not a good area of Douglas at the time.
They were hard working class people and I’m sure life was a struggle, my Grandmother worked full time until she was 75 years old, and refused to collect her pension!

Thank you, re your grandparents, I think you may be talking about Chester Street area possibly. If so, the supermarket has closed (last used as a Covid vaccination hub). If you go to the online iMuseum.im and search for Chester street there are some images of the area prior to its demolition and replacement with a multi storey carpark and supermarket

Fantastic Stuart...if only my father in law was still alive to see this. He was born in Smagg's House in 1919.

How big a tourist attraction would this be if it were rebuilt. Better than Beamish.

I love this! Love seeing my family name Clague there! But what is with the long tailed cat? Why not a Manx cat?

Hi i dont suppose you have the models of these buildings and the map? I have been trying to find the maps od old douglas for years.

For maps there are 2 sources you can try. There is a reprint in the Godfrey Edition of the Douglas 1866 OS map ISBN 0 85054 641 9. the other one is the Manx Notebook website. They sell a CD of the website for a very reasonable price that includes, amongst masses of stuff, very good scans of the 1866 1/500 plans that are also available at the Manx Museum. As to the models, there are over 100 buildings that I have made myself over the last 2 years taking from 2 to 5 days per model so, in the words of Gollum, they are "my precious" and not available :)
