      It was by an Australian vaudeville singer WIlliam Holt Williams aka Billy Williams. Not only was it about the Isle of Man but was recorded in 1913 which was perfect for this animation. More info at en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Billy_Williams_(music_hall_performer) which includes a link to a wax disc archive where this came from

    That was awesome, thank you so much. I am sending this on to a dear friend who I've worked with for the last year and we both love History. I worked at the Palace Hotel untill 2 weeks ago and having watched "The Holiday Isle" video clip on you tube, I have made mental notes of iconic sites and their stories, just because they are so fascinating. Because I worked at the Palace, I am super intrigued about Castle Mona. I don't know what it is but there is something about that building that tickles me and from what I have heard, it seems to be steeped in mystery. (Depends who tells the mystery) I Know. I looked at that Ballroom Dancing venue every day when walking in and thought of the thousands of dancers that were there daily. Now, it's a car park. Thank you for this wonderful labour of love. The visuals are stunning.

    I cannot believe what I am seeing it 's like as though you have brought history alive on the screen. Living on the island and knowing of the history this really shows it of well. Please can you comment on what software you used to make it. Also have you done other places in the world.

      Hi, I just concentrate on old Douglas. I have 4 other animations if you search for buugane. Two are based around old Douglas North Quay before they knocked most of it down in the 1930s, there is a ride along the Marine Drive tramway and one on the Douglas cable tram along Victoria Street and Prospect Hill. Characters and animations are done with Reallusion’s iclone and character creator software. The buildings can be made with any 3d software (I use a very old version of Modo bought when it was affordable for hobbyists) and they are textured using Substance Painter. The whole thing is put together using Unreal Engine 5.3 which is free!

    Very interesting! Love what you’ve done! My Grand Parents live where the supermarket is today, back of Strand Street, I think it’s now a Shoprite store. I believe it was not a good area of Douglas at the time. They were hard working class people and I’m sure life was a struggle, my Grandmother worked full time until she was 75 years old, and refused to collect her pension!

    Wondering howcome you didn't start at Douglas head and carry on beyond Whing? I guess lack of images but can do some guesswork based on the locations of the incline?

    • @Buugane
      @Buugane Год назад

      Starting on Douglas Head would require me to model all of the bay in the background, just too much for me to try and would have had technical issues with trying to create such a big landscape. You are right about images from the Whing onwards, couldn’t find any of the Port Soderick halt though I don’t think there were any buildings there. the animation would have also run for too long for many to stay interested.

    • @allanthomson1716
      @allanthomson1716 Год назад

      @Buugane I can understand that, I don't think I've ever seen a close up image of anything beyond the corner at Douglas Head, but I think there might be some which show the entertainments on Douglas head which may show things from a distance, I seem to remember having seen some images of the top Funicular Station, there's a lot of the bottom one. No doubt you are already aware but one of your end images showed the original cars from the Falcon Cliff incline that was moved to Port Soderick, they were used as kiosks on the promenade there after the bigger cars were built. I remember my Grandfather saying he had some memories of the Marine Drive running before the war.

      I still keep thinking I never got round to digging in the location of the car pits at Little Ness (often said I would do this as a child)... maybe there's scope for a proper archaeological excavation....legend has it the remaining trams were all chopped up and dumped in them before it was covered over....
