There's a lot been said about Monty. One thing you can be certain off, as far as we in the British Army were concerned he was the Guvnor and we knew it.

That’s so true, those piss taking young brothers I left in 1982, some have passed, now we are grey haired frail, story telling old farts, wouldn’t change a thing. Well probably these corrupt MPs…

What is ignored in this magnificent story not wanting to detract from Stirlings achievements is what it owes to WWI and TE Lawrence who organised the first long range special forces operating behind enemy lines employing subterfuge, sabotage, camels, high explosives, local forces, ultra long marches in most hostile territory, ambush, vehicles and political negotiations. He was the ground zero of all special forces without doubt.

I'm a scot but I am giving kudos to Stirling but he was captured after his 3 or 4th raid then took p.o.w. ,where he tried to escape ,then got sent to colditz . The 2 men ALONG with what was lrdg (jock Lewis and paddy mayne ) kept the sas as a actual unit . The army top brass wanted to disband them.............paddy mayne and Co had other ideas lolol ,but the top bras did disband them only for them to show why there the father and model to EVERY other countries special forces. Delta force is modelled on them ,so is the Israelis ,aussies ,new Zealand ,Canada etc

Yes , the poor fellow's gone now...God bless him...but he was too ready to tell everybody who he disliked...he wasn't so hot himself , his music a bit suited to middle-aged folk on the rocking chair , smoki g marijuana...he was a very bad advert for the hippy lifestyle...madehimself ill with uncontrolled indulgence , taking 27 different medications the latter years...wrote and sang , with great emotion , a song called Almost Cut Ma Hair , spoke of it later as a song for an entire generation who didn't wanna go to the barber shop , either...taking drugs and living in California took this chap , like Alice , right thru the fukking looking glass where he was led away by the fairies
