I don't make offshore crossings but I do leave the NC coast and tow the boat to the FL Keys and inland for freshwater striper fishing trips a few times a year. I always have Seatow wherever I travel to fish. I have a check list for daily local fishing and a check list for road trips with the boat. I print those lists and check off every item prior to leaving home. For my road trips, I start checking off the list a couple weeks prior to leaving, staging everything at the garage door and/or loading the boat. On occasion I do think of something else while on a trip, just add it to my check list for future trips. No such thing as being too prepared for a long trip. A friend thought I was crazy when I opened my tailgate one day and had 2 spare boat trailer tires in the truck, with a spare on the trailer. Was traveling 6 hours to a lake for striper fishing last Thanksgiving week, ran over something on the interstate and blew a trailer tire on the right side. Traveled 60 more miles, the other right trailer tire was flat. Would have been a much worse day if I had only 1 boat trailer spare!
I couldn't agree more. It looks like you being prepared helped you continue on with your fishing trip. You can never be too prepared. Thanks for the support.

Thanks Matt! Anything under 25ft.
Great information and thank you. Two questions? What would be the smallest engine you would go with and what's the best time of the year to go?
Hmm I don’t think the engine size is the biggest concern it’s really the size of the boat.
Also best time of year is summer time!
What tools do you keep on your boat?
EPIRB, Garmin reach, life raft, nonperishable foods, hand held radio, and a few extra stuff.
Thank you for the valuable info 🙏

It’s rare that these engines fail but it does happen! If long range is your main use for the boat I definitely suggest two.
Lots of great information you guys are great 😊
Thanks Brian!
Quick question. If there was a problem out on open water could you call the coast guard? How far out would they come if you needed help?
Absolutely, with an EPIRB you could send them a distress signal and they would be notified. They have more options than just an EPIRB as well.
any suggestions where to leave the truck/trailer in West Palm? Also Key West for going to the Dry Tortugas.
Thanks for watching! I'm not familiar with West Palm but Garrison Bight Marina in Key West.
Where would you put in around miami and be able to leave truck and trailer over night ? Also from key largo to the bahamas .
