Tyler, love the video! I need to fish more poppers and frogs! Could you give a summary of what water and weather conditions to throw which top water? I think the info is all in the video, I just had a hard time keeping it all straight!
Thanks brother great video Tony Hannah hot springs ar I would like to see you work a mouse or rat top water I Enjoyed your Presentation, God bless brother, catch more fish.
Something I've done (without results, yet, but I didn't throw it much last year) is put a white paddle tail swim bait as a trailer without a skirt on a buzzbait, and the action looks great - I even messed with a "breaching" retrieve where I ran the bait just under the surface and broke to the top every now and then, like Jimmy Houston calls "waking" a spinner bait.
i got a new frog this weekend and in my excitement to test it out i tied what was apparently not a knot at all, casted out and watched my new frog fly away. didnt get to retrieve it even once. worst part is, my day on the water actually went downhill from there. this video opening with a frog has reopened the wound! 😂
I’ve never not tied a knot, but I went back to back casting brand news frogs into a tree and lost them both. It was also definitely downhill from there!😂😭
I been waiting on this....I'm absolutely addicted to top water!!! This is a recent thing for me and I've spent loads of cash on all the premium,hi end top waters and can't wait to put them to use!
Just fished with my frog yesterday, got a bite waited a sec then set the hook. I Pull the “bass” out of the water and it turns out I just caught a huge frog 😂. Never knew you could catch a frog with a frog lure.
Tyler, your videos are very informative. Your fast delivery style makes is somewhat difficult to catch everything you are saying and I find myself rewinding. I have had two Choppers literally fall apart during use; however, I have never had a problem with the Whopper Plopper. Skirts and trailers will get damaged, but the actual buzzbait is a durable lure.
Hey Tyler thanks for all the awesome information you give to us my man! I’m new to fishing only about 1 month in do you happen to have a video for absolute beginners 😢 having trouble telling when i have bites and when to set hook
I just fished a top water frog at night and caught an awesome 4lb lg mouth. That’s an amazing way to catch bass at night on top water just by listening to what happens instead of seeing.
My friend asked if I wanted to come fish at his family pond 3 months ago, never used a topwater bait but had a black and yellow buzz bait that cost $8 that morning and caught 12 bass 3 4-6 pounders then rest maybe a pound on my way home I stopped at the bait shop and bought 2 more of the same and been fishing twice a week ever since😂
Tap water is amazing top water in low light in the dark is freaking insane and top water can happen at unusual times I'm always willing to throw a top water😊
I'm weird. I'm typically a right handed reel person but when I have to cadence a top water bait I have to use a left handed reel bc for some reason my left hand can't walk baits haha
If you live in South Carolina and your closest 6 Mile Rd. there’s a pond. The guy that owns upon his name is Rae. He actually goes to my church if you want to you could probably go to his house and ask him if he can fish in this pond. I caught a bunch of bass on the Texas rig amino and a walking jig
Somthin I like to do with the plopper that I've not seen anyone else do is add a feathered treble hook on back...I also put a split ring on the line tie
Use a left handed reel. No switching hands involved. After throwing a pencil bait, do you wait or just start going immediately? What time of day is the best time for topwater?
This is very comprehensive, thank you for putting it out there. But say the pond you fish at has a lot of pike in it... would you use leaders on your frogs, or just chance it?
Years ago i got a big lure from my dad. I believe it was called Lucky 13, probably 10" in length. First time i used it, i chucked it across the river, probably 40 feet. It crashed hard to the water. Let it sit probably for 20 or 25 seconds. Made 1 turn on my reel and a big splashing and swirl slammed it. Hit with so much force i thought it was going to rip the pole from my hand. I got maybe 4 or 5 turns on it and line went slack. Reeled in the line and lure/fish completetly gone. Im assuming it was a very large northern pike. Pretty sure i landed it right on top of its head or close to it. Whatever it was, it was larte enough to go after that lure. It was the last time and only time i ever got to use that lure. The fish became my nemesis after that. Never got anything close to being big enough to go after that lure.
Tyler, great video. I would, however, argue that whopper ploppers are also effective on a short plop and stop retrieve rather than just a straight retrieve 😉
Do u think a popping frog walked back to you skipped under docks and over stumps and underneath trees is better than a walking frog since I will be fishing no matted or thick grass?
On my local lake, Castaic in Southern California, the top water is going full steam but my baits of past aren’t producing much (pop r’s, 2 1/2- 3 inch swim baits, chug bugs and whopper plopper). This last weekend, I was able to get a clear view of the size of the shad that largemouth, smallmouth and stripers were boiling on, couldn’t have been more than an inch. What’s your thoughts of instead of trying to match the hatch that I don’t have anything that small, to go with something bigger like pencil popper, hair jig, spook or glide baits? Do you ever throw a popping frog in open water? Any input would be greatly appreciated. Btw, I can’t thank you enough for your content, you’re helping more fishermen than you realize!
Great video! What's your opinion on the ribbit top toad? I've been having really good luck on them up in sw PA. I feel like they're the best of both worlds you can chuck and wind it and just use the action of the lure. I have walked it a few times. It is a hollow body similar to any other frog?

@@TylersReelFishing k thanks. Il try the shorter rod. I do keep up but just can’t walk as good. Only good with rod down to right to get that walkn action. But il keep at it.
Maybe i've missed the information but , i just wanted to know if for the walking style lure and the popper it's better to have fluoro leader or it better to throw on a pure braid ?
I caught a 3+ pounder with a frog the other day, then out of excitement for the next catch missed the next half dozen in pathetic fashion. Got off the kayak with one fish for the day, now Im itching.

I want to ask you about the buzz bait retrieval, I was fishing a farm pond yesterday and 95% of my hits on the buzzbait out of like 6 fish were caught when I let the buzzbait go below the surface and burn it to get back to the top, with only one fish hitting on the top.
