Smatrik my friend! I remember the people there. Nice people, friendly, educated, cultured people. With opera and theater and everyone reading books and newspapers in the metro.The lady that was cleaning the hotel room played the accordion! They didn't talk much but you could sense their feelings.Respect!

My grandpa fought for Canada during WW2 and was stationed in Berlin after the war as part of the Allied occupation of Germany. He met many Soviet soldiers in Berlin, and used to love out with the to drink Vodka, sing, dance, play the accordion and of course to break into houses and stores to loot! My grandpa had a deep affection for the Russian people, he had a Russian girlfriend and learned a bit of Russian, and he always sang Russian folk songs like Korobushka.
Politics aside, Russia is pretty cool and the language has always fascinated me. I taught myself how to read and write Russian (yes, the actual Cyrillic)
I think Russians keen on composing marchs. Korobushka, national anthem etc. In my opinion, their national anthem's melodies are the most impressive national anthem in the world. Loves from Turkey.
